Giannis Posted January 31, 2015 Share Posted January 31, 2015 You know, in a lot of post-apocalyptic fiction, there's always that one guy. You know, the one who's extremely naive. The one who gets himself or everyone killed. The guy who thinks that trusting the sinister looking character with the evil mustache, creepy grin, and keeps a knife handy. Sometimes, that creepy dude isn't bad at all, just misunderstood. (majority of the time, they are definitely bad though) I think that sums up Willow at this point. They definitely look extremely suspicious, and on rare occasions, are actually good. It's just a matter of excercising caution when one approaches. I usually make this rule: If they beeline for your chests/icebox and don't bother to say "hi," they are trouble. If they are friendly as soon as you spot them, give 'em the benefit of the doubt. It's not naive, I fully understand what could happen but choose this option regardless of the risks. She can hop along till she gets bored as an immortal frog and then dc never to return. I consider them both natural hazards i should have been prepared for. Lamkin Posted February 1, 2015 Share Posted February 1, 2015 I loved playing as Willow in regular Don't Starve...I think in large part because I was always forgetting to make torches and I would sometimes not think and then get too low on resources to start a campfire at night. As far as DST, though....I have a Mac so I haven't played yet, but even though I manage sanity pretty well, I cut things too close sometimes, and I would hate to accidentally burn down anyone's stuff, so maybe I won't choose her for DST. Plus having others not trusting me at first just because I was Willow would kind of suck. I paired with a wickerbottom to start a base, on day 3 we set up alchemy, 2 crockpots, 1 farm. We see the Willow approach, she starts looting stuff from the base, and pretty much was cool about it so I just wrote: "dude, why'd you take the stuff? got our permission to do that?", le willow "ah sry, new to this". She puts the stuff back on the ground, I say alright, a cool dude, so I wander off a little to the north to gather some grass. A minute later, I sense something is stinky and I quickly return to base, or at least the materials needed for one. The faggetry willow pretty much destroyed all the structures and started burning everything in sight with the lighter. There was no hope of talking things with her, I wrote "wtf mate, why so troll?". His response "f*&k off". I started to follow her for another couple of minutes while she was putting every grass and twig and tree she stumbled upon on fire for no apparent reason. It was pure madness, trolls are trolls, not much to do about it. This has been the last time I connect to a dedicated server which doesn't have at least the "Simple protection" mod. I am sad and pissed off now. Btw, anyone knows how the votekick works? Do I need to write a command in the chat or something? But then again, Griefers are pretty prevalent, and honestly take out the Together from Don't Starve Together. I breathe down everyone's necks when they first arrive. Especially considering most of the griefers I've gotten were actually Webber. Birdget Posted February 4, 2015 Author Share Posted February 4, 2015 I tried making a a portal base again today on NY Communiy Survival early in the morning. First few people that joined were cool, even had a regular come in that I knew. Called me brave. One gave me gears for a fridge and others went to go harvest materials for themselves with the base as a brief reprieve with crockpots and drying rack, and about 50 branch saplings. I spent most of the time going out to forage for things. There was one of those career ghosts on the server that joined and went to go die immediately. I thought he was just new but I should have known better. I came back to base and saw most of my trees were gone with along with my branch saplings with a few burnt trees left. I figured no biggie, just a fire since I didn't have a lightning rod up. I noticed a huge amount of treeguards roaming around but I thought someone had just been cutting too many trees. I go back out to look for more things and I notice that same ghosts standing in one spot constantly haunting trees until they either burst into flames. I put on my top hat and prepare for the long ride... A few other people join while I am far away from base collecting materials and food for new people and I notice they all go die immediately to the treeguards or darkness, whichever is more convenient. Okay, can't be that bad maybe they are really new. Two days go by and I make it back to camp.. The crockpots are gone, the fridge filled with carrots, berries and meat is gone, the racks are gone, all the twigs I replanted are gone. The camps infested with ghosts constantly spamming haunt on whatever is left to destroy. I was focused on the ghosts that I didn't notice a Wilson with a spear COMING FOR MY FACE. I had been low health from the day before fighting spider dens so even with my log suit I didn't stand much of a chance. I told one of the regulars on the server about it and decided I would take a break. Right before I leave one of the ghosts sputter at me "git gud." This was a complete 180 from the last portal base I made but still thought I would post about it. Best part was none of the people who destroyed my base were Willow. All Wilson and WX-78s! This was the portal base I had before where everyone that joined were helpful and cooperated together. I got passed day 43 with cane and tam, then, boredom took me and I left.Best tip in NY server:be selfish. Ignore everything and live a normadic life(well, people started using my base so I kinda left).
