Klto
If you're not a Wickerbottom fan, shoo! Away with you all, but seriously I feel like Wickerbottom and Wolfgang are the least used characters and should be credited more, so I made this topic and here you are reading away at this paragraph of sheer uselessness. I made this topic so that I could get some answers and tips. 1. How do I keep Wickerbottom sane during Winter? 2. Why does no one like Wickerbottom and Wolfgang? (Besides a small group) 3. Why would Maxwell trap a librarian on this island? 4. How did Wickerbottom get those magical books? luivul
1.Drying meat is a very good way to keep characters sane, I also hint you to get a Tam o' shanter if you can.2.I think most of the wickerbottom haters don't know she can craft alchemy engine's recipe with science machine, because is not explicit in her description (which says she knows many things). People hate Wolfgang because of hunger .3. Because he hates books.4.Maxwell gave special powers to each character, except Wes and Wilson, Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/39056-wickerbottom-fans-unite/#findComment-517787 Share on other sites

Monty_Droppings
3. Because he hates books. Umm, the Codex Umbra?Codex Umbra is the source of all that has gone wrong in Maxwell's life, and it is the reason he lost the one he loved the most [Charlie]. It is the reason he must spend his time in eternal solitude serving "them". I think that is a fairly good reason to hate books. Starved123
So here is my baseless theory...The "Dimention" you are teleported to is... "Hades". Each character has been damned to hell and their punishment is to forever wander aimlessly through a hostile world. The only escape is a portal into deeper layers of hell, each more demanding then the last... but your character would do anything to return to some normalcy... so they suffer worse each time they "Escape" (there are only two choices, leave through the door or remain in hell forever.) The final deceit is that their last escape leads to eternal, immobile existence, they may only exert a minute influence over any existence. Their only hope is to trick someone into freeing them. Maxwell could promise them anything. He had no intention of giving it to them, he only needed them close enough to free him. Wilison was promised scientific descovery. Willow, perhaps she was promised a cure to her pyromania, or even if she enjoys her pyromania to much to give it up it may have been a promise to reverse the effects of something her pyromania caused. Wickerbottom may have been promised historical knowledge, or as she has some magical affinity she was promised great dark powers. WX-78 has been convinced he had no soul and maxwell promised it to him. Wendy was promised her sisters return. Wes is unfathomable. Wolfgang may possibly have been promised physical power. He may even view some/all of the events as a physical challenge to prove he deserves it. Woodie a cure to his "Issues" Webber a normal life again. Maxwell himself, was likely tricked by the promise of the return of a loved one. Wigfrid is a bit harder to identify because she seems very nice, but perhaps she was promised fame, fortune? Ridley
One major glaring flaw with your theory Starved123, is that you are suggesting Chester is from "Hades". Honey is the universal solvant of don't starve, allowing you to keep hunger, health and sanity up easily.2) Because few can deal with the fact that they're boss: Wolfgang grows muscles from stuffing himself, rather than painful exercise! And Willhelma can survive without opening her eyes once! (she can also read that way )3) Why would Maxwell trap a canadian lumberjack on his island? 'cuz he mad man! (or Wickerbottom has to do with how William got his hands on the Codex Umbra, making her the actual first victim )4) The books she can craft per default are bird calls and gardening tips... The rest is magic! (and gross tentacle alchemy) And thank you for showing the less recognised characters a bit of respect. I'm temped to put the massive Wickerbottom Smiley. acemurdock
I LOVE Wickiebutt. I think she needs more attention because she tends to be ignored a lot. She's pretty great with the science upgrade right off the bat, and her books can be really great when used properly.I imagine she'll be good on any DST dream team.My headcanons for her... I believe she's always been very intelligent, with a photographic memory. Her family was average, not wealthy. She went as far as she could in school, doing well and loving it. She eventually saw herself becoming a great scientist, like one of her idols Marie Curie. Soon, though, it became difficult for her to continue with her dreams, as her family would not spend the money to send her to further schooling, due to her being a woman (I believe she is around 50, so she would have been trying to go to college in 1890).Eventually, she moved on from her frustrations and got a job as a librarian (which actually does require education). She figured she could continue her education on her own.As the years passed, she became attached to her job. She never lost the desire to discover, however, and in her spare time she started experimenting with books. Special books. Books that contained things that others thought impossible. There was a small circle of others trying to discover these things as well, and this is how she ended up trading the Codex Umbra to William Carter. He came back to her one day, much changed, and told her he had found out the key to unlocking the book's secrets. He'd take her there, if she wanted to go.... Catweaselcrow
I find a spring start with Wickerbottom is harder then getting through winter. Not getting those prototyping bonuses for the first tier of science really hurts, with all that rain. At least with an Autumn start you've had a good shot at getting a top hat and some sanity food all set up for winter. He'd take her there, if she wanted to go.... The official Klei backstory notes William Carter (Maxwell the Great) found the Codex after the Train Crash. Wickerbotton did not give it to him. I find a spring start with Wickerbottom is harder then getting through winter. Not getting those prototyping bonuses for the first tier of science really hurts, with all that rain. At least with an Autumn start you've had a good shot at getting a top hat and some sanity food all set up for winter.from the Wiki: Making a Top Hat and eating Cooked Green Mushrooms is highly recommended in early stages, as well as going after the Tam o' Shanter and Sewing Kits in winter and later stages. Make a top hat to start. As Wickerbottom, it's available immediately. It helps with as much coverage for insulation as any other hat, until you can make another headgear that offers more sanity recovery. Personally, I'd rather use an Umbrella with a Sanity/restoring hat. At least you know you'll have the mushrooms grow back frequently in the Spring.
