SilverAura
First off, apologizes if this is in the wrong section of the forums. I tried looking around for a more miscellaneous place to post or a "Introduce yourself" section but couldn't find one. That said, I've heard about this game on and off for the past year or so and never paid much interest. Sounded like a horror game and I didn't care much for horror games. That was until I saw it first hand and was very intrigued with the BEAUTIFUL art style. Looked a couple small tidbits up and was interested. Picked it up on Steam. (To my dismay, it went on sale the very next day for like 80% off but I'm not mad.) Settling in to the idea, it was overwhelming at first but I very quickly became engrossed by the game, having already played 32 hours in just the past week. I love it! It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say it's probably one of my favorite single player games to date in a while. Fortunately this is precisely why I'm not upset about paying full price for the game and the expansion pack. This kind of game deserves every last penny and more. [seriously...] Since then, I've managed to talk about 5 friends of mine into buying it too and they're all loving it. Probably not to the extreme extent I am, but word of mouth has certainly made this game spread like wildfire for me and my friends. <3 But I have a question. Is the game still being routinely updated with large amounts of new content or has that time slowed down? I see they're working on adding multiplayer and that's neat, but as far as actually having new content, have we passed the "golden age" or am I still in the thick of exciting new stuff coming on a regular basis? NikMik
They stopped the regular updates like last year. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/38064-late-to-the-show-or-in-the-golden-age/#findComment-507439 Share on other sites
SilverAura
Ah, well that's unfortunate. But Don't Starve Together isn't going to be the last addition to the game though, right? I mean I know it's obviously too early to tell but I naturally want to know where my hopes should lie. ^^ (Of course I've already got a couple of mods installed. So there's that. ) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/38064-late-to-the-show-or-in-the-golden-age/#findComment-507441 Share on other sites

As for if it's in its golden age or not, will have to see how DST is received and whether or not another DLC is announced or not. If you are looking for more content, you can always check out our large mod collaboration, "Hero in the Dark" or the other large mod collaboration "up and away" , both add a ton of content to the game http://forums.kleientertainment.com/files/file/518-mod-hero-in-the-dark/ Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/38064-late-to-the-show-or-in-the-golden-age/#findComment-507460 Share on other sites
MaxStrategy
If Don't Starve Together does well they will probably come out with some more RoG-type DLCs. If it doesn't then they might move onto other projects or even Don't Starve 2 perhaps (wild mass guessing). I hope it does well of course, been waiting to play together with my buds for a while now Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/38064-late-to-the-show-or-in-the-golden-age/#findComment-507479 Share on other sites
BurningBalls
The RoG expansion added a huge amount of content, I was very pleased with it.Nowadays though they are focusing on Don't Starve Together. This game has a lot of replay value, I started playing it a while back, and always find reasons to come back to it. Starting a new world, doing the Adventure mode challenge with a new character, etc.Overall one of the best purchases I have made in recent history, the value for money is incredible. Battal
Yeaaahhhh, the Golden Age kinda...passed. Things are still going great, with RoG being a great expansion and DST on the way, but I honestly enjoyed the days when we got free vanilla updates every month. Of course, there's Up and Away and Hero in the Dark in development, which are pretty much expansion packs if you look at them scalewise. In another way I do feel it has passed, I arrived here earlier this year, in January. After starting our mod collaboration, I started looking back in the forums and was surprised to see how active all the Devs were on the forums and comparing it to now, where they are hardly on the forums, especially to answer modding questions. Would have loved to ask some of the key figures, like @Alia, certain questions about the games engine, world gen etc, while making this mod collaboration project. So in that way I do feel the GA has passed. ArcticFox789
Game-wise, it's slowed down. Fortnightly beta content updates were awesome, and the three-week cave update cycle/expansions don't really have the same impact, although I know playing RoG for the first time was like playing a whole new game, as I'm acutely aware DST (which I'm reliably informed means something very different in Portuguese) will be. The content was still great though, here's hoping for DST to be likewise. Forum-wise, you missed the golden age by about 15 months I'm afraid, but it's still one of the better places out there, it's still a good forum, just not quite as good as it used to be. Decelexevi
You have a completed and refined game in the survival/gathering genre. That's rare enough. Most of these games sit forever in varying forms of alphas/betas. As someone who likes standard rule sets in his single player gaming and not having to worry about character/world wipes... This is the best state the game can be in. This is the best state the game can be in. I'd say this is easily one of the best survival/gathering games I've ever played. So even if this was the end, I'd still have more than enough content to keep me very busy for a while. I was just curious if routine content was still a thing and it seems like it's delved into the expansion pack realm. Which honestly, that's perfectly fine to me. the truthseeker
Speaking as a person who joined here in 2013, but before the caves, the time of the free updates are gone, but the latest add-on was only released less than two months ago. Mind you, the Reign Of Giants DLC is a purchasable item for $5 more and is optional to play in your games (can be selected on or off for each game,) but literally makes DS a whole new game. 2 entire seasons, tons of new items creatures, components etc. As mentioned the Multiplayer Don't Starve Together (DST) is what is being worked on now So the single-player has (for now) had its last (but was a major add-on) update, but there is a new frontier about to begin for Don't Starve Multiplayer. So it is both an end of an era and golden age depending on how you look at it. Gumhoy
If Don't Starve Together does well, which it will.I imagine Klei will have more than enough reason to push for more content, particularly with DST in mind. You see they could not make any new content JUST for single player if they plan on adding multiplayer. Why make more work for yourself balancing singleplayer mechanics in multiplayer later? So rather than release new content, they kicked the ball around for multiplayer and now it's being added.Any ideas they have had since RoG are probably being rebalanced for both DST and DS in the same boat.I'd say you're on the Golden Age personally, with Multiplayer added the interest in the game is going to go up massively since people can now play or LETS PLAY it together!(Which I may do... who knows?) AquaAtia
I would say the first Golden Age was Christmas beta testing, the second was when Beta was finished and the third was from all the hype generated behind "All Well that's Maxwell". Is it slower and less populated than before, yes but not much. I'm expecting DST to intrigue new players like you and it will spark a third golden age. I definitely see Klei doing more DLC in the future as it seems they still have a ton more ideas (If not there's thousands of good ones to draw from workshop) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/38064-late-to-the-show-or-in-the-golden-age/#findComment-508982 Share on other sites
Strangerdanger101
Late to the show, mostly. The forums were once better than they are today, but they are still pretty good. The golden age of the forums has passed. As for the actual game, there is no telling yet, because the multiplayer update might be the true golden age.
