Vanderer
I guess its all down to attachment, right? I mean in bioshock, some people can kill those little kids without feeling a thing and gain the extra stuff they drop, since they can easily detach themselves from something that isn't real. As far as don't starve is concerned everything is pretty much a meat sack target for me, but I guess we all have our own limits on what we will give a damn about in a game, right? NotCrazy
Even if that one would literally give zero craps about you gathering them up and transforming all his neighbours into monsters and then beating them up for said profit? As a matter of fact, they'll even help you beat them up if you've given them a piece of meat, and why, they'd be first in line to eat the skin and meat off the ground if you don't take it before they can react. Eh, I'm finding "sentience" to be a difficult argument here. If they were so well-capable of looking at their own state and pushing away what they didn't want, chances are they'd learn after the fifth guy beside them has been transformed and beaten to death. Unless you mean to say that they like getting violently transformed and murdering everything around them. Them being dumb as bricks doesn't give the right to kill them. Otherwise, well... Our world would be a lot less populated. I guess its all down to attachment, right? Not fun to have a pet turn on you, I recently lost my pig-follower to too much monster meat. At least I think that's what turned him into a horrible mean were-pig that ended my newly started game. Takushi
Them being dumb as bricks doesn't give the right to kill them. Otherwise, well... Our world would be a lot less populated. As far as I'm aware, you cannot survive without eating any sort of life, and so far I don't see any problems with our world population declining from eating animals (unlike deforestation and habitat loss), much less in that of the one of Don't Starve. Besides, nobody said anything about rights. I argued about sentience and whether or not it's worth not exploiting them. It's a game about survival, and you have to survive, not bother with your "rights" of eating meat or plant cells, both of which can be alive and unintelligent, yet still feel. On an ironic note, if something breaks a Pig House and a living Pig is nearby but not far enough to get killed by whatever is rampaging the area, they will eat the skin off the house, not rebuild anything and thereby ensuring less population. If Klei ever decides to look back at this (which I doubt, but I may as well entertain the idea), maybe it would be nice to change some of this to reflect their intellectual capacity to build a house as well as adding at least some sort of penalty to being extremely destructive. As it stands, you can eradicate an entire village's population and have it completely regenerated within a few days and nobody will give a flying crap. TuffDwarf
Being another of the apparently rare female players of DS I have to say that I have never killed a catcoon, and only once accidentally killed a moleworm. Made me feel ill that I had killed such an innocent. I love putting down a rock or gem in front of moleworms and having them say "mine" as they gather it in. Makes me laugh every time. I can't kill baby beefalo, either. Too cute. Come to think of it, the only thing I actually don't mind killing are the bosses. But seeing pigs die doesn't bother me. They are cannibals, and stupid as rocks as well as rude. But incredibly brave as long as it's daylight. I use them any time I can to fight spiders, or tree guards. As an aside, am I insane that I have now played DS in all its forms for over 1300 hours? Can't decide if I should look at it as giving me a reason to live or that I just wasted 1300 hours of my dwindling years. I'm not too bothered about killing beefalo, since I've had them turn on me so often for doing nothing except being close by at the wrong time. Frogs also no problem - they're so annoying. I trap them and rabbits for meat mostly. Pigs also not too much of a problem, though I don't usually kill them unless they're transformed. Baby beefalo - no. Moleworms - not unless they're in my camp stealing my stuff. Catcoons - no, I have 3 cats. I feel bad about picking mandrakes though - I love having them jump along after me at night. ^^ And, another female player here actually. Lady Azure, Barbarian and TuffDwarf and all the others out there I'm mentally giving your hands a quick squeeze of camaraderie. Guest
My weakness is Volt Goats. I freaking adore Volt Goats. Just something about their "baas", hopping noises, and their passive attitude make me want to run up to them and give them a hug. In fact, you don't know what I'd give to be able to tame them and have them follow me around. Heck, even when the get struck by lightning, they're really not much of a threat. Just don't get close to them and wait for it to pass. Not to mention, Volt Goats are great to have around when the hounds come, as they'll help you fight, electrified or not. I have never, and still probably never will kill a Volt Goat. I will never get to eat ice cream, it seems. If only there were a way to milk Volt Goats... EDIT: Also, POST NO. 100! Bekuno
I wont kill Glommer, Chester, or Catcoons. Moleworms are a good food source for me (theres always one of two near my base camp) so I have to slaughter them.I always freak out quite a bit of Glommer dies in a fire or is killed, it's just so cute.I don't kill Catcoons because Willow likes them. agstah
Well oh my goodness!!!! I'm (probably beyond what is reasonable) thrilled that there are so many female gamers around! Really I've always felt like an oddity. *waves to littlebeari* Another female DS player here, though I don't consider myself a "gamer" because I don't play a lot of games. I just play a couple of games a lot. Heh. I don't have a problem with killing stuff in the game if I need it. I would be most hesitant to kill a catcoon because there is only a limited amount of them. And I try and keep Glommer around until I can go grab another. I would NEVER kill Chester though. Can you even kill Chester? What would be the point? spiritcrusher77
I have never, and will never kill a catcoon. Moleworms, I could care less. Someone should make a poll out of this. Come to mention it though, I don't really think that there's any other creature in Don't Starve that I wouldn't murder. I would murder pigs, rabbits... nope, nothing. Seriously, you people have problems. It's just some stupid mole, those things are disgusting. LadyAzure
I would kill anything if it meant surviving, but I never really been faced with the problem.
