Complete re-do of another post I had made before where I was talking about small ideas for characters.

Implementation Ideas

Notices:

  • These are just a few ideas me and a group of my friends have had for possible implementations into the game to help in Multiplayer, the DLC, the normal game, etc.
  • These are just ideas and are just to be modded or anything.
  • If these ideas are taken at all past brainstorming, that is fine and more work would be put into it if that was to happen.
  • Dislike is accepted, but we would love to know why.
  • New thoughts are welcome and talked over. Brainstorming is fun and a key part of anything. :wilson_wink:
  • It's always good to keep the chat free of hatred and keep it "child" friendly.(please don't swear or pick fights, it would be appreciated)
  • Please understand not all ideas are going to be taken and some things will not be taken into strong consideration, but everything will be listened to.
  • Have fun with this guys.

Current Ideas:

Woodie:

  1. An item to temporarily counter the Werebeaver curse to allow Woodie an ability to grab Glommer and work during full moons, especially for the DLC summer.
  • It would be able to counter all accounts of the curse, tree and full moon
    • It would have to be worn at all times to counter the turn
      • It would provide no defense
      • If taken off in the middle of a full moon or the "high" he would immediatly turn
    • Each counter would use up the item's durability
      • Each full moon would use up 10% of the durability at the start of the night giving you 5 pairs of full moons free
      • Each tree cut down while in the "high" point of the curse would use up 5%
    • It would have sanity effect for each blockage it has
      • On the full moon you would lose sanity by 4.6/min
      • Cutting trees in the "high" will take off 10 sanity each time hit
    • The amulet is renewable but decently expensive
      • Requires a Shadow Manipulator
        • A Luxury Axe
        • 4 Living Logs
        • A Nightmare Amulet

Willow:

  1. Summer and Winter balance
  • She is not burned by fire so it would make sense that maybe she overheat slower
    • Summer:
      • Overheat is slowed by 20%
    • Winter:
      • Freeze is increased by 15%
    • Rain:
      • Sanity decrease 2.5/min

Overall:

  1. Better beard hair
  • Possible lower sanity spiders that have a chance to drop beard hair
  • A trap for beardlings to guarantee the drop but would have a chance to not guarantee a catch

Other characters are being talked over at the moment.

Willow for right now. Please share ideas for the current item.

The best idea I saw on this was the use of the Eyebrella to prevent the full moon curse, which was suggested for SP. However, it could work well with MP equally.

However, it kind of stinks to have to wait to get that Eyebrella. Maybe a weaker item could be made that would cost alot more to use?

Edit: Oh no no no! This is in a perfect spot, don't worry about moving it.

I'm not entirely sure about the whole Eyebrella idea. Possibly for Summer full moons from how short they but that one seems like it would have a bit too much going for it.

The Eyebrella can be hard to get but the whole thing of being able to repair it would make it a little over powered, pretty much eliminating the curse completely. Anything repairable would be a little too much.

The item I'm suggesting would be impossible to get at the start and requires quite a lot, but is renewable, and if used properally could be used on 10 full moons, which is quite a lot.

It would still allow things to be slightly balanced and give you the chance to work on simple tasks and obtain Glommer.

This is just the current idea and things are still being talked over.

(all right. i just don't wish to impede on anyone)

Beaver mode concerns me with the fact that he will berserk close to the start of the game, which could possibly make him a unattractive character to play as. 10 days is long enough to build a base, but I worry it might weigh the team down too soon in the game.

Eyebrella being repairable is rather OP for Woodies sake. It would give the item greater purpose which I personally feel it could use, but I don't feel right in giving it two abilities just to make it work.

A hard to craft item that lasts a long time would be useful, most likely better. I would enjoy a weak item or way to get him through the first full moon though.

As a person who has played Woodie several times I actually find the first full moon, which is 10 days away, not that bad. It can actually be very helpful to get multiple resources very fast before turning back. The mode is not completely horrible and has many advantages to it.

The main reason for this thought though was to make it so on short nights or nights where you might be busy doing something and need more time, you can actually work. It gives the player a few days where they can work on more than before. This would be largely helpful in single player but could help immensly in multiplayer so everyone can continue working through the night.

Even though this item would not work for a long amount of time it would give the person some time to work.

Full moons happen twice every ~20 days so there's still time in there to work.

It wouldn't be great to completely take it out of question and having it gone at the start is just a little bit much in my opinion.

Having something that you can use is a pointer in itself. But it can still be worked over again.

It may not be that bad when you play, but I still worry he might annoy his team too soon.

Woodie's full moon curse is the reason I don't really want to play him. I need a good start, and Woodie gets so weak after transforming. Now with another full moon the next day, I feel really put off by him. I do think he is a good character and would like to play as him more, I just forget there is a full moon until its too late.

When I join a public team, I want to be perfectly fine with whatever anyone chooses. If Wes could act as a aggro magnet for a extra ability, I would see too him as fun character to have on a team. Woodie's transformation is a very very good tool to have, but the early inconvince just bothers me.

So lets run a scenerio. You and me are playing a public game, I choose Wickerbottom and you choose Woodie. Quickly I make myself a backpack and plan to follow you around the first full moon when it arrives. We find a spot for a base and we start building it up.

Full Moon rolls around and you go beaver mode. You kill the amazon while I pick up the remains. Eventually you tire out, and are now weak. I can't really heal or help your sanity because you will go beaver mode again the upcoming nightfall. So we need to avoid combat and I need to do most of the fighting. If hounds start coming, we might have to spend early game resources trying to heal you fast.

Second Full Moon hits, but what do we do? Are you going to escort me places like the Glommer Statue? We don't really need more logs/grass/sticks and the nearest minerals are too far away to have much time for. We may not have a fridge, so mushrooms would just take up inventory space. What would be your plan?

That's the good thing about the werebeaver though. It's not like you stop being a werebeaver once the full moon ends.

In this scenario he could technically leave you everything he has, Lucy included. He can go off scouting out areas and clearing things out. He could clear out deciduous forests, killing off the poison birchnuts and gaining living logs and nightmare fuel early. He can eliminate werepigs for their guaranteed drops and fight off chess pieces for early gears. Kill tentacles for weapons and drops and take out some spider dens for the area at the start.

Woodie doesn't turn back until the log meter runs out, so as long as he can keep that full then he can technically stay like that until both full moons are over and there are enough drops to help him tide over afterwords. Sanity isn't that hard as green mushrooms are around and when cooked give +15 sanity. If you murder off werepigs then there is guaranteed meat. All those spider glands and chopped on rocks can help.

The werebeaver trait is honestly a very helpful trait if you can use it right. It's not really a hindrance. So during the start it's best you have it and later on have a way to stay human and deal with projects and problems. He can bite rocks, trees, creatures. I'm not seeing the problem in this honestly.

@osmRhodey

You know more about Woodie then I do, so I will go with what you say. I might have a different response after being able to actually test this though, as with most topics.

It's quite all right. I hope I wasn't coming off too harsh or anything.

Most of my information came from playing him on release and in the DLC as well as the wiki. If anything, watching other people play, playing them yourself, or reading up more on the wikis always helps. :)

I hope you enjoy him. I'm hoping to get some time in on characters I've missed like Wickerbottom and Wendy. (wes and maxwell when i can actually find the door hahaha)
