If we are to implement beard growth to all characters, Wilson would not only need a new ability ( unless massive beard is really his special trait ? ), others should take 2 to 3 times longer to grow and girls would need a counter part.

Maybe something to do with nails ?

i already talked about it taking more time to wolfgang, but i don't think wilson would need a new ability, making he the only one that can grow a masssive beard would solve it, like wolfgang could be able to just yield 3 beards in the max growth he would need like 6 days to 1 beard, 12 days to 2 beard and 18 days to 3 beard, and about nails they could be used to make another specie of meat effigy, one that's already in the game for men and a new one for the women characters

Having Wilson growing a beard is his special perk as it is. You wouldn't want to take away his specialness would you :(

Plus you can still use tents to switch to him if its meat effigys your after.

wilson would not be less special has he would be the char that yields more beard when shaving the beard and also takes less time to grow a beard

I definitely agree that all male characters should grow a beard, at different speeds of course. The female counter-part trait for this could be head hair growth? Also the female character could use a razor to cut hair as well, which could function as components of rope or effigys much like beard hair.

To me this would add to the huge theme of "Stranded" or "Lost". As the character themselves begin to transform into a more wild and savage state as time goes on. By the time the character has survived longer, they will be gritty and tough from their past encounters with creatures, monsters, ect. This would only further express that in the form of visually transforming the character.

I support this idea!

thanks for the support :D

It'd look cool, but I think it'd be taking out a huge part of Wilson, and he wouldn't be as special really. If you wanted hair you could just wait some time.

but in this time you could die making wilson a better char to harvest beard hair

The beard, and ability to use the Meat Effigy, is Wilson's perk. It's also connected to the fact that Wilson is the first character you play as, so the Devs probably wanted to add in extra life-saving benefits just for him to use... namely the Meat Effigy. Logic would demand that Wolfgang be able to grow a beard and thus use the Meat Effigy, and yet, from a gameplay perspective he is limited by this inability and forced to survive by other means, like the girls. Or simply, the characters after Wilson have different perks, but are harder to play because they cannot escape permadeath as easily.

In short, I'm perfectly fine with Wilson being the only character to grow a beard.

yeah i know it is wilson's perk, but living in a island for days without shaving your beard, cutting your hair and nails should make you grow them and make you look like a savage animal at least, that was the point that came when i talked about all men characters growing a beard

But the fact of the matter is that it would cause Wilson to no longer be unique. Also, I cannot imagine Wolfgang growing a beard; it's just not part of his character. And you can't really change Wilson's perk since he is the icon of Don't Starve. When I watched a LP of Don't Starve and saw that Wilson's ability was to grow a beard, I thought that was kinda silly yet it peaked my interest. And on another note, Wolfgang can't die. He's invincible.

he isn't invincible and wilson would still be unique because he is the first char that anyone play, and also it will take more time and yield less for wolfgang to compensate his strength and big stomach

All this focus on hair and nail growth, and yet no threads about why our characters eat, but NEVER poop. Even pig men "create manure" when fed berries. ;)

I don't think we should focus so much on the realism of the situation, after all we're arguing over what can be used to make a magic totem work, and rather focus on the gameplay. It really works the way it is now.

i know it would be a silly argument but human poop doesn't work as a fertilizer so it would be like a nonsense thing

My bro mobius said everything allready but... The use of the tent would be even less relevant if we weren't switching to Wilson anymore.

But I think the balance issue is the best "no" argument for this suggestion.

i know there is the tent but it wasn't created just to change chars some times just to get a bit of beard

Why must we be so exclusive?

Can't we just let everyone grow a beard?

honestly. :p

WoW syndrome. Players wanting their character to have the perks of other characters, diminishes all the characters. It is generally a disaster when devs do this.

Though it would be funny to have the girls growing beards.
