Random events-a serious discussion.

Recommended Posts

Alright.

Some players of don't starve had their moments where they began to love the game: the first hound attack, deerclops, treeguard, etc. However, these supposedly random events don't keep the player on their toes. It might be scary/cool(What is that noise?), but for things like hounds, anything scary soon becomes a routine.

(Hounds? I'll just go run over to a tooth trap field and wait). The events are too predictable, and after a while, they get old, fast. Soon, hounds, and worms, and derrclops, and treeguards stop being a hassle andjust become tougher wildlife. Now, I don't know what hate will arise from this statement, but Terraria executes this mechanic pretty well!  As a player advances in Terraria, the game watches their stats, and when the stats reach the right requirements, you might get a blood moon! Or a goblin army! You can't just camp through them when they occur(maybe on the blood moon, just make your house float over lava),but  they give no warning, and they have that "wow" factor to them, keeping you on your toes because any night or day, you have no idea what will happen. As I said, Don't Starve and Terraria both have their moments, but Terraria keeps changing, especially when you go into hardmode. Don't starve has a hardmode(the caves) but that hasn't really been considered very engrossing nor a suitable addition for lots of people.

Thus I conclude my rant. Any opinions? Do you agree? Disagree? Partially, momentarily, entirely?

Well, it would be cool to see more events, but they'd still become routine sooner or later. I mean, goldfish911 gave the example of events in Terraria, but, the thing is, all those events (goblin army, blood moon, solar eclipse, pirate army...) are routine to me at this point. New, random events would be nice to see, but you'd get used to them once you went through them a few times and new how to handle them.

im all for this idea!!!

and at the beginning, randomize the randomness!!!!

if the devs could somehow figure out some magic combo that keeps us entertained, gives us a challenge, and allows to have fun being surprised at "what's next" then this game would be even more prefect than it already is!
