Hmmm.... Hard to say Wendy's confirmed so it's hard for me to say for sure.

I'd probably say Wicker or Maxwell. They usually give the most insight to lore in their item descriptions so losing either or both of them would definitely hinder Lore, which I love thinking about.

Wheeler I think. Sure she is from singleplayer but this is a entirely new game! I would love Klei to revisit the old cast that didn't make the cut for DST.

Wheeler would be nice to see return. The elevation gives opportunity to explore her abilities some more and she would look pretty cool in the updated artstyle I bet.

Imagine you could use her dodge slide as a way to negate fall damage :o

Call it a Hunch, but I don’t think that a truly next Gen (series X/S or PS5 or possibly even PS6/Project Helix) Don’t Starve game would have LESS characters than its last Gen counter part.

I’m kinda expecting the entire cast to be there (maybe not including DST exclusive DLC ones) they may not all be in the game at launch, but I see no reason they can’t gradually be added overtime later.

I have a Wurt bias, but it would absolutely be a shame for them to miss out on proper water mechanics and interaction with the goats.

On the other side of things, those same goats + Gorge aesthetics make me hope for a more interesting cooking system. So, rather than keep fancy cooking to one character, there's a part of me that wouldn't mind sacrificing Warly to the void for better cooking all around.

I voted for all the original gangsters plus also Warly because Warly rules exceptionally hard.

Wolfgang's current kit is unplayable with how boring it is but I hope he can go back to normal or something. Basically anything except how he is right now.

Even though she's rotting with the rest of the singleplayer and that probably locks her away from the new game - I'd like to see Wheeler.

Her kit, personality and the explorer character seem perfect for this game and its 'ruins of a victorian/gothic civilization' vibe

Nah, each game has its own special character plus the main survivors, i dont wanna burst your bubble but i think klei need to focus on new content.

Actually only the "main survivor-related NPCs" from DS and DST which means Maxwell, Charlie and Wagstaff which is why I voted for those 3 because it would feel weird if all of them had disappeared.

But I would want the /ENTIRE/ character selection from DS DLCs and DST to be there, no matter if playable or NPC. Just definitely giving everyone an appearance.

Hey, where my WARBUCKS compatriots at?!?

I joke, I joke.

In all seriousness though, if we're talking original cast + RoG, then I'd hate to see Maxwell gone the most. His narrative is central to the franchise's storyline, and his relationship to other characters (both playable and NPC) is probably the most fleshed out and dynamic out of the entire cast. Besides, he has always been the "rule of cool" character, with powerful, flashy abilities, I'm quite excited to see how those could translate into another game.

Now, if I were to choose some from the DST and single-player DLC exclusives, I'd go with Wanda for the former (as I feel she's the most underutilized, high-potential character in the cast and I really want to see her origins and powers explored further) and Walani for the latter (since she encapsulates Shipwrecked's core mechanics well, and I think a new game with new terrain generation and rivers is the perfect opportunity for them to finally find a way to port over or reconcile them to a multiplayer experience).

Finally, to bring things full circle, in a more action-based, exploration-heavy game full of multi-level structures and ruins, maybe Warbucks (AHA!)  really could make some sense, with a fully reworked set of abilities and quotes, leaning into a big-game hunter and explorer personality. Maybe people would still hate him, but I think it could be done tastefully, and it would finally bring the actual whole historic cast under a single roof, which I'd personally  find really satisfying hahahaha

I really hope they can find a way to reverse Warbucks deletion somehow ( that would be a way plus they sure could come up with a reason why he was gone, that might give us some hamlet lore [maybe he got captured by the Mants?] ) I mean /disliked/ characters could still at least get referenced. (A playable Warbucks would be nice, but if he got an NPC or a /reference/ that would already make it feel less sad that he just "stopped existing". Just like they made Wagstaff an NPC in DST, it was annoying but at least he was /there/ and had a reason to exist story wise.)
