It is a big gamble, since Don't Starve Together is likely their biggest source of income (because skins), and is a huge game in China.

Just because you release a sequel to your game doesn't mean your playerbase is going to abandon the old game and move onto the new one (look no further than Payday 2 - Payday 3 example). If I was at Klei, I would make the new game and expect players to move onto it, but keep the old playerbase and new game alive, while providing incentives for old players to try the new game hoping they stayed, and hope to achieve a lovely transition, because regardless of how good and interesting the blueprint of the new game is, is very unlikely is going to have the same amount of content as DST (that has had 10+ years of development).

Best case scenario the game is amazing, just as good and expansive and replayable as the trailer made it look, and everyone agrees this game to be a better Don't Starve in every single way.

Worst case scenario has the playerbase split, with half moving onto the new game, and the other half staying, forcing Klei to split resources between both games, or just focus on the new one while keeping old one with skin and small QoL updates once the reworks and the current story arc is done.

I don't know of any other long lived games that have successfully recapture its original playerbase after they swapped onto a sequel (Smite 2 and Runescape also come to mind), so I'd say Klei needs to be careful if they do plan to make a full switch.

This is just speculation, we'll probably know more next week once the roadmap drops

Gotcha 👍

Maybe future costant? Like a lot of time has passed and now the continent we knew has changed a lot.

We don't know much yet so it's hard to speculate but here's my first try: After the events of DST they escape to the Gorge because of some catasthrophy in the endgame involving Wag, Tenebrau, Charlie, Alter etc. Shenanigans.

This is just my opinion but I don't think this update having a single skill tree was about "quality over quantity" or whatever even though that's what they said. Wx's skill tree beta so far to me atleast has had no better quality to it than the others. They

My exact sentiments.

The only quality over quantity was releasing it earlier for more testing and feedback.

YYOOOO, it would be fire escaping to Gorge dimension and seeing the old Costant being dead/devoured from Them. It would be a big sentimental hit, seeing the Costant disappear in front of our eyes :wilson_cry:

Maybe I jumped the tinfoil hat too quick. Hope the roadmap this thursday clears things up a bit.

True, It would be pretty melancholic. I imagine someting happening to Charlie and Wag too. Can't wait, for the finale and this new game.

Oh and also pretty sure this sequel is after charlie vs alter ending up in a mutual destruction and ending up destroying the constant

I vouch for this.

I mean, Charlie had a vision in that one Intermission short about Alter blowing the hell up. And we know Tenebrau's whole business is consuming gate realm after gate realm so really the Constant wouldn't be the first. Entirely possible that's where we're headed and this Elsewhere is another Gate Realm the team hops to in order to escape Tenebrau. Maybe this is where they'll make a final stand. The goats are here too, Mumsy said in the Gorge that they would follow the Survivors through the Gateway, I bet they are getting tired of the gods' shenanigans as well, might as well join forces.

Also the destruction of the constant means new or unknown deities/beings appearing since the veil between them is basically gone

the shadow god. Tenebrau or Shrouden whichever you prefer. They are called Tenebrau by the Void Masques aka the Heralds of Tenebrau if you have shadow affinity, and the Ancients that wrote on the Shadow Ramparts called Them Shrouden. You can read those with any of the Sanctum masks.

Klei's biggest strength has always been their lack of fear to try new things on their games.

We had monumental changes. Like the jump for multiplayer when they promised they would never do it. Raid bosses. The ocean and raft mechanics, skill trees. Some changes didn't quite land right. But they all came from a strong wish to innovate and listen to the players. They will forever be the most passionate team in all of gaming.

This always had the small drawback of the game barely being able to handle these sweeping changes (Both technical and balance wise).

By the looks of it. This new game may be able to handle Klei's infinite creativity (At-least for a while ;) ).

This franchise had always been a massive part of my childhood. I'm so happy to see it grow up with us now.

Genuinely its so gorgeous, never in my life would i expect us to get don't starve three but i'm all here for it, I've been following don't starve's growth since god knows when so seeing them take this huge of a step is really nice to see, cant wait to see more of this game

Klei, I love and respect you very much, and Don't Starve Elsewhere has exceeded all my expectations! The multi-level mountains, caves, and coastlines, the detailed world, the real rivers, the dynamic shadows, the redesigned visuals, the connection with The Gorge, the expansion of the flora and fauna, and all the other details of the world, all of it is truly amazing! I will also understand if the skins are not ported, but I really hope that all the characters from DST will be ported, including Wormwood,Wurt,Wanda,Wortox (excluding Wonkey). I am looking forward to the game's release!

“And Dynamic Environmental Dangers”

What exactly does that mean? I’m over here thinking we might get spike trap covered walls that start on one side and end up slamming against the wall on the opposite side (classic Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider style) or platforms that once stepped on might collapse, or water we might need to run away from and reach a higher elevated island to prevent being caught up in, in the trailer we only see enemies knocking Wilson off a cliff in Lee funny Haha moment.
