I felt like the weapon was perfect as is, good price lots of potential durability

It didn’t really need to be chargeable. Im not sure I like every single weapon being repairable. I preferred the reliable weapons being easily disposable, and the more luxurious and handy weapons being less so.

Morning Star is absolutely horrid as a weapon, and it's mostly due to its price of horns.

Saying that the weapon is fine when horns have such a low drop % is a wild take to me personally.

This was a much needed buff.

I didnt know that, how is it repairable?

This is a piece of unimplemented code.

"Morning Star can now be charged to restore durability in two ways: Like WX-78, touching the Lightning Rod or Winona's generator refuel 100% durability. This one has not yet been implemented. Like the Astroggles, shock by Moongleam, refuel 25% durability."

I've played with rechargeable Morning Star (MS) thanks to the mod Uncompromising Mode (UM), and all I got to say is: it's really nice. This change makes the MS much more desirable as a crafted weapon compared to its cost. Sure, maybe you only need to make one MS in your entire single-player playthrough, but I don't see the harm in that when the horn is not a guaranteed drop (vanilla), and you might only get one herd. You're getting options instead of defaulting to Hambat or Dark Sword. Now that the MS is better to craft, it feels very nice to use the skin for it that I bought.

Nnnooooo... Morning star needed this. I loathe getting the horns for it.

There's plenty of other weapons that can stay as they are, but I've been aching for a Morning Star buff.

it lasts ages. Longest lasting weapon that doesnt spoil. Horns arent hard to get for the time it lasts.

Considering it drains just for being equipped, this was needed.

It's not like you can just repair it anywhere you want; Winona's the only option for caves.

You can get around 4000 hits if i remember right before it breaks

I dont remember but it was a high number

Always saw morning star as a tool. You always have both a morning star and a regular weapon

Morning Star only has 6 minutes of durability. With a player attack speed of 2.2, that's just 360 × 2.2 = 792 garbage attacks in total. And it loses durability even when held without attacking, so it's actually even less durable than the Dark Sword.

It’s way more durability than a dark sword. You won’t just wave it around for no reason

If it was something boring and uninspired like "Morning Star Rapier Kit", I'd totally agree, but using a charged lightning rod to repair your weapon is cool as heck, and I think little interactions like this is what makes dst truly special. You can have few thousands hours in a game and still find something new

I don’t think many people actually would ever use the morning star if not for this. I will definitely use it now at some point in a playthrough because it serves a purpose of being a weapon that is repairable early game plus with the new shock state mechanics it’s definitely a good weapon while still not directly outclassing the existing choices like ham-bat and dark sword.

I feel like horns are horribly hard to get without setting up a Volt Goat farm, that is my main issue with them.

I don't disagree with your take that long-lasting weapons don't need to be repairable, but with how much of a pain it is to get Volt Goat Horns without a dedicated farm, I feel like this ends up being a good change.

While being repairable sounds very broken, much like the from beyond items, it is important to remember repairing it is very situational.

  • One option is to charge it at a lightning rod, which requires it either to be spring or use purple gems for a telelocator staff, which admittedly is a good mechanic as with heavy lightning comes rain providing the best time to use it.
  • The second option is using moon gleams to recharge it, which not only requires knowing how to complete the lunar questline but also gives use to one of the almost useless moon storm items so I'm glad its getting the spotlight here.
  • The third option is to switch to/use Winona and here generators. This is probably the best option it allows turning nitre into fuel and only requires a character swap, which it depends on how the player themself feels about character swapping.

This is also not a bad idea as volt goat horns drop with a low chance and have heavy competition for volt-goat jelly and weather pains.

The Morning Star also acts as a light source allowing for potential early-mid game in the type of clothing/armor used in hat/body slots.

While the morning star clearly is not going to be a broken weapon, unless maybe fully utilizing Wicker early-late game, it still provides an ok alternative weapon in the progression of the game to where it might be used more. I honestly would not mind it seeing buffed more in terms of damage and durability but this is a good step in letting others utilize it.

This is not actually the worst as at bare minimum the morning star will provide 792 x 43.35 = 34333 total dmg, which is a little over five times as much total damage a dark sword can do. The most the morning star can do is 792 * 72.25 = 57222 total dmg, which is about 8.5 times the durability of a dark sword. While this is definitely less durability than a Hambat, the damage is more consistent and provides a light source, along with the static electricity mechanics making it a decent generalist weapon.

You convinced me. I go back to what I wrote hours ago. @Jakepeng99 they're right.

That being said, if others weapons will receive the same treatment, me and jakepeng were right and should be changed for those future weapons. It's boring and un-creative this trend.

But damage is lower than tentacle spike unless wetness applies. Also plants will be set on fire, and it can't be buffed further with VGCF.

If you're not waving it around, it's taking up inventory space. The changes make it practical as a light source (if you wanted to forgo magiluminescence or w/e).
