Not a fan of the cracked look of the new thulecite archive walls

Recently, the archive walls got a bit of a remaster in the recent updates. I’ll be focusing on the thulecite ones, as the stone ones are perfectly fine.

The new Thulecite walls have a ton of cracks in them, which I personally think looks not so good, especially on the fully repaired state (which  also gets more damaged for some reason???)

I’m hoping this can get looked into, since I really liked building with the old ones and it bothers me a lot these now have cracks from the remaster on an otherwise solid improvement (perhaps an alt variant can be added to retain the cracked look? I can see its niche for some building projects).

I actually like the new ones better. Those thick lines from the old ones seem so strange now. But yeah, specially for the one who paid for the skins, there should be at least a refund option or something

Overall, I like the new look of the walls. The only thing I don't like is the completely ruined walls. I preferred their old, smooth look. The new one looks like poop.

Literally, they look a lot like guano hanging from boulderboughs xD.

I think my problem stems from the fact that I loved using them as a simple, “polished” wall. They were the wall I used the most by a considerable amount because of that fact. I just find it strange they both updated the base wall to fit in better (which is fine! I have no qualms with that), but also introduced elements that were previously not there that conflict with the polished look.

I don’t think the cracked variant should be banished to the Ether, though I really don’t feel the original, clean look should be outright voided for people who used the walls in that manner. I would much prefer a way to cycle between the polished and cracked look (I feel an alt skin would be best for this? Perhaps something similar to how the CoTL flower bed has 3 separate “skins” despite only technically being one you own).

I haven't seen the new walls in-game but judging from these screenshot this particular skin looks more like walls instead of cheese

Hmm. I'm a big thulecite fan and I'd definitely rather it be fully intact if I'm spending my own resources on it. I haven't built these recently enough to notice this change but I'm not a fan. At least give us the option. Especially the archive ones, I think they look the best brand new and flawless. I do like the seemingly sharper resolution of them however.

The spacing of the stone walls is also a bit wonky. Like, there’s gaps between the walls placed next to each other. You can see it when you look at a vertical row. No other wall skin does that.

Aren’t these the walls that Klei added the free additional art for? (You hit them with a clean sweeper to change them without having to buy them separately.)

I could have sworn that there was a skin or two in the game that does this.. not sure if it’s this particular skin though.

I think these were the login bonus for the Grotto/Archives update. I wasn’t around then, so I didn’t get them, but they were added to the Klei rewards for points. No one should be buying this skin (and I actually don’t think anyone can), so Klei has no reason to give out refunds or anything. Maybe they’ll make two different options for the skin since people seem to like both versions. I don’t think they work that way right now. The rose bush potted fern skin definitely does work this way, and I think that may be the one you’re thinking of.

I like the new skin better, however I understand that some people might be upset about the change and prefer old sprites. I think a good compromise to satisfy both parties would be to release the new skin as a separate wall skin (maybe call the new one "Ancient Archive Wall"/"Damaged Archive Wall" and the old one "Imitation Ancient Archive Wall"/"Replica Archive Wall").

The old one could be the Ancient Ancient Archive Wall, because it's the older version. :P

I meant in the sense that the new skin looks more worn out. The old skin looks a bit too polished and cartoonish to my taste, it always felt a bit off.

The new walls are absolutely better, but I think the Thulecite ones specifically could do with less cracks/damage. And fixing the diamond on the bottom.

However, I hope the rhombuses below the max level thulecite walls can be consistent with the previous levels. In the old version of the skin, they are consistent and there is absolutely no need to change this.

Does this impact the actual skins or just the ones found in the archives? If the former is true, thats kinda bs, as I liked to use them for a fancy effect in my builds. If they've all got cracks in them now, then that kinda ruins the whole vibe for me.

I really dislike that placed walls that you built look like they're crumbling and falling apart, it's a huge reason as to why I don't use certain wall types on builds. On a decent handful of them you have to fully repair a wall for it to not look beaten up, so if I want a unified and clean look for my build, I'd either have to forgo walls or have them all be tall. It's not very convenient for building. On top of that the more details like this that walls have the more repetitive they get, regular stone walls have some variation to them but most other walls have none, so if they design a big crack into a wall and you place several, it's unnatural to view. The archive wall skins used to be decent for this as the initial built look for them was relatively clean and looked good when lined up with itself, now not so much.
