I know the "charlie boss fight" is a very generic idea that exists since 2016, but i think now it is at its peak of being possible, with the way updates are going
Klei likes to imply that all the steps to cc and warbot are a "questline" so it would make sense that the shadow side also has a boss as a conclusion to its questline
The most likely character to have a boss battle are these 2

The other options would be the shadow watcher, or some random shadow nightmare monster they would make on the spot which would be very anticlimactic

This whole post is just me discussing what i think could be cool for a metheus/charlie fight, im not saying this is 100% the next boss or that klei must do this

In terms of gameplay i think it should definitely use the darkness mechanic, maybe make it so it tries to run out your light sources (faster lantern or miner hat drain, drain sanity to disable enlightened crown, destroy light sources like dwarf stars, etc) maybe it could do it while using that torch in the cyclum puzzles, that way charlie can kill you, maybe they should make it so she does more damage because you could just ignore it with armor

Another thing that would make sense in a batlle against the "queen of darkness" is to have the arena with torches that she would try to turn off, if all torches are turned off she gets more damage or something.
Noori, spectre of darkness is a boss fight in undermine that literally does this:

For last i also think the boss should have something related to sanity, this mechanic is directly related to nightmare creatures spawn, so it would make sense that charlie, literally the commander of shadow creatures, would have some mechanic related to sanity, maybe not copy and paste fuelweaver´s shield thing, but with how the 2 main bosses of the lunar arc, celestial champion and scion, do absolutely nothing with enlightment, i would be dissapointed if klei just gives the "final shadow questline boss" a -800/min sanity aura and call it a day

As a detail it would be cool to see the ancient fuelweaver before the fight. What im trying to say is that, before the warbot fight, you must fight a lesser version of the celestial champion "celestial revenant" which is basically alter`s last attempt to stop you before you do wagstaff´s experiment. As a counterpart to this maybe the survivors have to summon a lesser version of the fuelweaver where he tries to stop you one last time from opening the gateway

For the lore i have no expectations, like many i stopped paying attention to the lore when the from beyond arc started, it became clear that klei really didnt have a story planned and they were just making stuff on the spot, the cliche of making charlie appear on random trailers for no reason, like in the forgotten knowledge trailer got old very quickly
I fell like **** for saying this because they really do care, there is no reason for them to do animated trailers for gameplay updates or even story animations from time to time, but they do and its cute, to me the best dst animated trailers are the WX rework trailer and the hide and seek animation

I fell like the biggest problem with the lore in this game is how unsatisfactory defeating the final bosses feels, the ancient fuelweaver was for a long time the """"final"""" boss of dst, after you defeat him, carry on with your world, celestial champion, carry on with your world, warbot, wagstaff is gone, carry on with your world, i can already see it that after this hypothetical charlie boss fight charlie simply dissapears and thats it, maybe you stop getting attacked by darkness, but in terms of lore the survivors are just there wainting for the next thing.

Im not saying that after a """"final"""" boss you should get an animation of the survivors escaping the constant and you save file gets deleted, im just saying that the inability to give the game a "conclusion" to its story its getting repetitive, i cant wait for 2030 in the "return of wagstaff" content arc where you fight alter, and then instead of some epic conclusion you get like 3 items for your megabase. If dont starve adventure mode released today instead of having an iconic ending you would instead have a maxwell boss fight with a lot of attacks, and after that he drops like a crazy weapon that does 100 damage only for you to be spitted out again in the survival world

I dont believe that dst is worse with bosses, i like them and i think we could have more, even, its just that when it comes to telling a story, this "boss rush" gameplay its just not it, the game is like terraria in the sense that there are a lot of bosses that dont mean nothing in a story and drop cool gear to fight more bosses (and i like this a lot, im not saying that this is bad, im just saying that for a story its just not interesting)

the boss fight starts with some epic monologue from Charlie, then her shadow turns into Metheus, she summons some shadow arena decorations, white lights fill the place... and then out of nowhere Daywalker just jumps in, knocks back Charlie into oblivion and is the final boss, after that Charlie is never seen again

Daywalker jumps into the ancient gateway and becomes a vessel for Them.

(jokes aside, I could see the werepig coming back as like, the shadow side's version of the celestial revenant)

I’d like a twist where the Shadow Quest’s final boss isn’t a Boss at all. The sky goes dark, plants wither, food rots, the rain turns bitter, and various shadow creatures erupt everywhere. The Survivors have to seal away the source of the calamity.

The concept is inspired by Hamlet’s Aporkalypse, the Gorge, the Ancients’ deprivation, and "Don’t Starve" itself.

better idea, charlie will force you to play three scene plays, each with a unique challenge

Plot Twist: Charlie is finally about to complete her promise of restoring the mirrors power, but unbeknownst to her the celestial moon god that Wagstaff has been ticking off banishes him to the darkest depths of the caves, which just so happens to be right where Charlie is about to be granted ultimate power: so Some Super Hero comic book stuff happens, Wagstaff, the REAL Wagstaff and not a Hologram gets thrown between Her and the Energy Transfer, and Boom… Wagstaff indirectly becomes the ultimate True Final Final boss.

It was actually Pearl the entire time. He evicted her from the island to prevent her from absorbing the Celestial Scion's power, but she had a backup plan.

I really doubt it's that. They're more of a background and unseen forces in shadow side. We can expect seeing more of them around doing things but also unlikely cause that isn't Charlie's style, also leaves her too vulnerable for too many times to lunar forces, as she already risked a lot to get to archives and moon archipelago
