Auth Posted April 21, 2025 Share Posted April 21, 2025 I want new biomes, new seasons (or at least seasonal variation/mechanics), and maybe even a new resource/craftables/structures to be introduced into the whole grass/twigs/rocks/wood family to help deal with threats new and old, just some good ol' fashioned survival materials and mechanics. Nothing too crazy, nothing tied to boss/game progression, nothing locked behind arbitrary side missions, not something from a rift, just something fun and new. Throw it in the ocean even to give the ocean more of a reason for why you'd want to actively go out there and farm a resource. I don't expect anything anymore. Additionally, dreadstone had no precedent nor established lore at the time as this was it's introduction so it really could've been put anywhere. And marble pillars are more of a surface occurrence than the caves if you want to get more pedantic about it. Honestly the marble pillars look out of place down there to me... I could also be misremembering but I don't know if dreadstone was even a thing in the first version of the fight in the beta. Like I feel like him smashing the pillars and those making dreadstone was added after the initial beta. But again I'm probably misremembering. They also have not done anything like this for any other caves/ruins boss or content. If Klei wants people to test something, they'll probably want them to test it in the environment it's being designed for, yeah? If they wanted people to easily find him just for testing sake, how come greater depths worm wasn't on the surface? How come frostjaw was out in the middle of the ocean still? And also his debug name is Daywalker. Not that it really matters but it does mean that him being a daytime werepig was something they were more actively considering and thinking about in development. The Eye of the Storm update's main menu depicts Wilson in a Moonstorm taking place in a muddy biome. They've been building towards the same story beats with the moon since like, 2015, of course they had plans in mind for Dreadstone and what it was going to be used for literally two updates later. The Nightmare Werepig was added two months before From Beyond started, it is really silly to imply that they had not planned out what Dreadstone was and what it would be used for just 3 months before shadow rifts were added. I don't know, it just feels intentionally obtuse to pretend that the Nightmare Werepig, a piece of content added 3 months before Shadow Rifts, was actually always supposed to spawn at random spots on the surface because Klei is stupid and didn't think it through, rather than the far more obvious reasoning that the shadow mob who drops the shadow armor blueprints and a new shadow resource used for starting shadow rifts in the shadow-themed caves area of the game as a middle point in the shadow questline was probably in fact intended to be in the caves. I'm tired of him just wearing a recolor of Wilson's outfit; I think it's a leftover of when they were making some early characters and as such Wes, Wilson and Maxwell all have the same body silhouette; Please give him his dapper shadow suite designed outfit, like he has in all the animations another interesting addition I would like is kinda controversial: I want a new optional interaction where you can make your character get buffed in some way, at the cost of making true downsides for characters. Something like severe lower stats for WX, in exchange for more circuit slots and an increase to the circuit's stats; wigfried having some form blood thirst mechanic (kinda like how her hunger currently relies on you battling/killing monsters to receive the only food you can eat/meat) It would be nice to have some legitimate downsides for some characters, cause it leads to really fun play styles. Right now I feel like only Walter, Warly, Wormwood, Wurt, Wanda, and Wes are the only characters with any NOTICEABLE downsides. I know they would never truly nerf characters, as so many people would be really upset and sad about that, but if you let it be a late game option or something, I think that could be really cool. There is my theory that the Shadows are stealing cheap imitations of the cultures they absorb, and all shadow items are remnants of former things they have absorbed. In Shipwrecked, the map shares a common theme that every new Don't Starve area adds in that a civilization that was once there was no longer there, said civilization worshipped a previous god before switching to the shadows because they were more immediately convenient to them. As the goats worshipped the gnaw before being taken in by the DST crew(working for Charlie unintentionally) and Pugna's group seemed to have a warrior culture before switching, whatever lived in Shipwrecked had the Altar of Snackrifice, requiring tribute lest it rain fiery hell on the lands. Lore-wise, I think Dreadstone is the fully converted form of Obsidian from Shipwrecked, and that the Shipwrecked world while not being canon as we play it in DS(in that none of the crew besides maybe Wagstaff have actually visited it.) is just one of the many worlds the shadows have done this to as they amass their own imitations of life. I've felt that this is, or is getting close to what is actually going on with the shadows before most content in DST was out and more and more updates only convince me more and more. Malfario Posted April 22, 2025 Share Posted April 22, 2025 What i want: Id like more enviromental challenges related with the rifts, content attached to places rather than randomly spawning in the world or near the player. maybe stuff like conditions in the style of "farming on diferent byomes grant you diferent pools of crops, and each byome has a unique crop" or maybe "this particular weapon has this particular interaction in this particular byome". And, the progression of the gear been lengthen in the mid game, as in having more tools, eqipment and weapons that are accesible since the start, be bia crafting them or finding them, and,in the case of the arms, that can compete or be better than the darksword on general scenarios. Basically i would like enough new weapons so the darksword wasnt the universal best both in term of been worth the hussle and been actually efficient. Something like "the giant slayers hand" and its a weapon thats particulary effective against giants and mediocre to regular mobs etc. In the case of equipment maybe a hat that heavily increases fish spawn around you, a staff that relocates buildings so you dont have to hammer them and rebuilt them. TLDR:i would like Locations to have more content directly attached to them and the progression of tools, equipments and armory was longer and complex than having default item thats accesible with ok stats and improved item thats weird to get and has better stats. What i expect: Probably something on the lines of return of them, where the last updates before the finale tie together all the kerfufle, probably with a new flashy adition of content that will adress one long standing issue with the gameplay (like the groto and adition of terrafirma tamper). We know for past streams the ancient gateaway and the archive portal have new uses planed for them so i wouldnt be surprised if we had the lunar finale now with the archive portal, and on september the shadow finale with the ancient gateaway. However in return of them one of the last updates before the finale was also an overhaul update, reap what you sow, and we also know from stream that klei is interested in more of those updates (and so do i tbh) where old system get a face lift. Reap what you sow was also an update with very impactful character changes so if the next update its an overhaul one i wouldnt be surprised if skilltrees were thrown into the mix. This is truly speculation but this description could fit with a cooking overhaul update, with warly+wicker skilltree since those two are the ones more tied to food from the remaining characters without skilltrees. And just for clousure, i am completly fine getting either what i want or what i expect, maybe a convination of the two or maybe none of them at all. The majority of any map created in the game consists of a green ground (light or dark green) with the same types of trees and vegetation. I could leave only 2 of these biomes in world generation and bring in the Hamlet and Shipwrecked biomes. I can see that the developers are capable of bringing in amazing things, but they got stuck in the Don't Starve base for DST. JustAPineapple Posted April 23, 2025 Share Posted April 23, 2025 Id love more world changing rift content, especially for the surface and oceans, that open new avenues for survival progression and protection against the elements, I get that the surface is touchy though because by the time you reach rifts many people will have established a base and farms and decorations they care about, and having that destroyed the first time you encounter a new hazard (and thus wouldn't have been able to prep for it) blows imo, expressly because of how late game post rift is. I want content that kills or wildly inconveniences the player, or even renders part of their bases inert until dealt with, ala shipwreck and hamlet seasons (or the sandstorm / moonstorms <3 controversial I know) What do I expect? Well certainly some kind of rift content, this is, after all, the "expanding the late game arc" of course its going to continue to expand the late game until the arcs finished. So the TL:DR I want another Lunar Island sized map expansion, just this big mass of land I can sail towards and explore its unique mobs, maybe even unique to that island weather mechanics Etc.. Allow us to take a tool to the plugged sinkholes on pearls hermit island to explore the area Pearl plugged up.. (new cave biomes only reachable from pearls island) But the one thing I don’t want, is a bunch of boring bosses… the game has enough. mods then. PC players get to use mods sure, but that isn’t Official gameplay content, that isn’t the developers intended experience. Whats interesting about that is that if you choose to game outside of the PC, and you say for example install a Mod for Skyrim/Fallout/Minecraft ETC onto your Xbox- The actual developers of both the mod, and the game itself have to ensure that that mod works with the base game product. Like: I can not go on the Minecraft Market Place and pay 10$ for a “Mod” (that PC players get to install for free***) and then have that mod Break and Not Work. In most cases when it comes to console gaming a “Mod” CAN become official gameplay content. With that said, what starts out as a mod has historically been proven to become officially part of some games (see left 4 dead 2 cold stream DLC or Arks The Center) The TL:DR- is that Klei & the Mod creators need to decide what stays as being a “Mod” and what becomes Official. (Should they ever choose to support mods for DST) But I stand by my original post: the balance of dst is way way the hell off, like: i fear fighting Rabid Rabbit King More then I do Lunar possessed Armored Bearger. And why? Because the rabbit king endlessly pursues you while spawning minion helpers until he is dead.. Armored Bearger will actually ignore you altogether and wander off to do its own thing.
