[Poll] On Future Skill Tree Direction

I DREAMED OF A SCORCHED EARTH. A new shoot sprouted from the earth. It bloomed in the morning sun and whispered to me.

101 members have voted

  1. 1. Which character/s do you think must receive the next skill tree update?

  2. 2. If given the chance, which skill trees do you want Klei to revisit?

  3. 3. Do you want Klei to keep its development focus on character skill trees?

  4. 4. Would you be agreeable to Klei delaying skill trees in favor of other content?

The one I would like fundamental changes the most would be Willow, there are a lot of things I find really... meh : her getting a spell wheel, an item dedicated to using them, and in general just that fire witch thing I'm not a fan about. I'd have preferred less witchcraft, more matches, burning embers (not Wortox soul v2.0), or even pyrotechnics. Instead of this new item she could've just used Ashes, in different amounts and skills could have improved ash gathering... but by all mean I prefer her having to burn things than get kills, getting even closer from a Wortox ripoff. And the effect of spells really never needed to get a wheel dedicated for it. Learning the skills could have just allowed you to use more lighter / torch / other actions on ground or when attacking enemy.

Content-wise, it wasn't too great, but its especially the representation of these skills that really made it my least favorite of all skilltrees. But I also think she could have gotten more than only spell & Bernie skills. I could have seen explosion improvements and improvement of other fire items such as fire / star caller staves and more- anyway my friends are asking me to hurry I can't complain more for now

Clarifying my stance on revisits. I consider Wilson and Wolfgang the prime suspects for a full revisit.
Woodie and Wormwood could use single branch restructurings/afinnity QOL which I just don't consider worth a large segment of an updates time, because simply put, its usually only 1.5 branches that are painful in their trees, so its usually like merge 2-3 skills, add one or two new skills that give these value.
Add a bullet point to another skill.

When they sometimes implement 90 skills over a single update cycle and keep 70 of them, its sort of like.
"Ok now, I'm not going to stampede over the little guys who need only minor changes."

I assume they are responsible developers who can partition their time, as, they do this. Wortox got one of his best abilities in a wickerbottom update after all, beefalo were almost totally enhanced in this update with a single bullet point.

So 3 skill revisions: Minor, i won't upvote that. When klei feels like it they can fix these ones with a gentle breeze.

9 skill revisions? Yeah I'd consider that heavy enough to put my vote there because that's still 10% of the last updates work, so I should show serious interest IF I think its valuable.

They have been refreshing, reworking and then skill tree reworking the cast of characters for no joke, 4 years now.

I am going to literally die of old age (or GTA 6 may finally come out) before we ever get a huge paid dlc like Shipwrecked or Hamlet.

Hell I’d even want Gorge/Forge as DLC modes before I’d EVER want them to finish up skill trees and then Re-Rework and Refresh them all over again.

I would love if they finally added the hamlet themes to their soundtrack that has all the base game+shipwrecked themes on the steam store. Please klei. I like using soundtracks when I work on things where my hamlet themes.

Kleis really capable, but they take time, even for some small subtle things.

Warly and WX could be nice for the next skill trees, I guess.

For revisits... I wish they would revisit the Elding Spear of Wigfrid to make it not require interacting with late-game content to be usable.

As for future direction... More skill trees until they finish making all skill trees would be nice. After that, they could probably get tweaks here and there in the middle of bigger patches.

My prediction for the next skill trees:

  • Warly: 100%
  • Maxwell/Wickerbottom: 90%
  • WX: 60%
  • Wanda: 40%
  • Webber: 40%
  • Maxwell & Wickerbottom: 40%
  • Wes: 10%
  • Wonkey: 0%

Although if the update is in April Wes would be 90%, but I doubt it's going to be in April. I think Warly is all but guaranteed with that little Walter skill that's going to be added to others.

Close ended questions have no neutral option.

A neutral option on them is important because you're forced to vote on them if you vote on the previous options, I'd say.

Like, I just voted yes on the 3rd and 4th questions because I had to vote on something to answer the 1st and 2nd questions. But my real answer to the 3rd and 4th questions is that I just don't care. I simply wouldn't vote if I had the option to vote for the first 2 questions without voting for the latter 2.

Fair point. Normally my line of thought is for people with similar sentiment to vote no as I wanted to see just those two responses.

The problem now is that all the people desiring a neutral option can't revote and i may have to redo the poll later for posterity's sake

If another skilltree patch gets hijacked like Wendy did this one, and the devs blow up the entire patch again, I'm uninstalling the game and never looking back.

This has been one of the most miserable periods in this games development for fans

Honestly I would love updates that spotlight fewer characters alongside world content instead of pure character spotlights.

So long as klei doesn't fall into the punji spiked death pit of over engineering characters specifically for that updates content drop, it would let each character get better proper spotlights.
Since, nobody wants their characters to be married to a single updates content when players might not even run that updates stuff all that often, but fewer characters at a time means we don't create rivalries that burn the fandom alive again.

willow/wigfrid and winona/wurt kind of did that, i think the triple skill tree spotlight has just been causing a lot of issues and they should stick to doubles + extra content

Hmmm. That makes no sense...

it means to say that they want development on the trees to continue, but wouldn't mind if the trees were delayed or sidelined temporarily in favor of new content

That's how i voted it anyway
