First, thanks Klei's work on this update.

Now, my concerns.
I completely understand the challenges Klei developers are facing.
The skill tree delay has made their gantt chart burn, likely leaving them with no spare time or resources for other recent updates.

However, let's reflect on past Lunar New Year events. After the Year of the Varg, the Lunar New Year events became increasingly novel in gameplay. The mini-games were small but unique and interesting, showcasing the designers' creativity.

Things began to change with the Year of the Dragonfly. Although the volume remained similar, I no longer felt the uniqueness.

When Rictus was released, I initially thought Klei was clever for introducing more snake-like creatures in advance to save time for other creative endeavors. Unfortunately, this turned out to be just my unilateral wish.

The release of this year's event must have been rushed; otherwise, they would have noticed that the Gilded Depths Worm statue lacks a description in the crafting menu.

All of this indicates that Klei's developers seem to be more like completing tasks rather than creating enjoyable experiences as they used to. I find it hard to enjoy the game if they cannot even feel joy in developing it.

I sincerely hope they can have a good restart this year.
And less skill trees :p

It's matching my expectation because the previous one (Year of the boat) lowered it to negatives. Can't complain too much though, they did an awesome job with the other updates on a tight schedule.

I like it, it's simple. The lights are cool, and depthworm statue is cool too. If they added like, 1-2 small things like a depthworm hat (like the cork candle hat, but you put a glowberry in it) I'd be happier, but for a fun little addition, I like it.

To be honest, I think the YOTX campaign has been going a little "off track" since Carrat. Too obsessed with creating bigger and bigger minigames.

These are disconnected from the main game content (starting with Catcoon, the YOTX campaign doesn't even have anything to do with the creature itself) and will only be enabled once every 12 years.

With the main content of the game (Ocean, Skilltree, Rift) in a state of chronic mutilation and unfinished, it is a little unclear and wasteful to spend a lot of productivity on creating these big minigames that cannot be repeated.

I would prefer a smaller and more integrated into the main content of the game event like this

I will be honest, I don't consider the "year of the..." updates to be actual updates to the game, they honestly seemed like it was harmless seasonal fun where the devs make small visually appealing stuff while they put more focus on big updates or upcoming ones.

Personally I wouldn't be upset if the seasonal "updates" halted all together to give the devs either more down time or more time to focus on their other plans, but on the other hand, if the devs just have fun making these small little things (that are done for free mind you) I won't be upset.

usually the "year of the..." updates are like a message to me that says "alright, time to check up on other games and see if there is something to do there while I wait to come back to this one". It helps with burn out so when I come back to the game I can just enjoy the new update that... well has actual content to play with.

Just wanted to correct something here, you can now exit any game world, go to settings and toggle back on any previously expired limited time event.

This means: what was once actually only Limited Time Content, is now permanent main content.

And also: turning these on (or turning MULTIPLE of these on..) can have fun changes to your gameplay.

For example: did you know that if you toggle on Year of the Carrat that the little rats will hide in the fur of Beefalo & if the Beefalo is killed the Rat will scurry around quickly eating up the meat from your slain foe?

Toggle on Year of the Gobbler while playing as Wurt, and you’ll have to contend with Turkeys roaming about eating all your veggie and berry sources.

Its fun to re-visit these old events, and even though Year of the Dragonboat is universally hated as the worst update Klei has ever put out for DST, it still gave us fully decked out smaller boats at incredibly cheap prices (practically free if you also have year of the Catcoon enabled)

Can I have another activity next year? I don't understand the relationship between worms and snakes. Dragon boat rowing in the year of the Dragon is very abstract. Is klei insulting Chinese culture? Next year, mechanical war horses are not like horses, so let's switch to something else.

wait a momend, your not getnerfedon, what dit you do to him? he was supposed to do these kinds of polls

anyone can make polls i dont enforce poll monopoly

Plus im rather burnt out of DST at the moment

I admire dedication from Klei on trying to improve make things cooler for each event but there's the feeling where it's sometimes maybe trying too hard? xD

I dunno, I'm most interested in decor options we gain when we do these events. What I'm not a fan of is locking content on each events statue prints instead of having all open at all times. Then again, statue prints need some kinda rework cause most people I've known dislike those prints how they're implemented. Clunky, takes up space, have to be stuck to a potter's wheel to be crafted, etc...

my only problem that hunt cut down due to rift activity ..
well if the comparison is year of dragonfly this is way better XD the bar way too low for me.
atleast its still worm (yotd was more racing with monkey than dragonfly element with it) but i doubt it as "depth" worm. since its on surface and with koala foot print.

Wait until you hear about Moggles

average "gotta cater to caveless worlds" moment

uh, caveless worlds have been consistently disregarded for as long as I can remember. Don't act like it's having special treatment, don't act like it's been detrimental to full worlds.

I haven't seen a nightmare werepig or a ruins crafting station on the surface yet.

could i butt-in to cut the middle?

klei does try to make sure simple and early-game things are available for non-cave players since everyone plays the early game, it doesnt really do that for mid-to-late-game stuff this is true but that doesnt really feel relevant since all of the prior yotx have been non-cave accessible and this is just following precedent. do remember yotb uses a cave mob(bunnyman) but does not require caves to access

How do cavesless servers craft furniture? That’s something you only learn from a hammering a chair in the caves right?

Anyway, I haven’t played the event yet so I don’t know if depth works actually are on the surface, but if they ARE then Klei missed an excellent opportunity to create Sand Worms for the desert/Sandy biomes.

And yes: I’m a BeetleJuice/Tremors movie fan. :)
