Why did they patch lureplant cheese and voidwalking? Two glitches that have been around ever since the game came out. Do they plan on patching every single glitch now? Why did they rework crab king into a even more glitchy fight that noone enjoys? Why did they release placeholder skilltrees that are going to get reworked again in another rework phase? Why does greatworm and scrappy werepig drop nothing so noone ever fights them? Why are the update wait time longer but the updates have even less substance than before? Is anything I'm complaining about valid? If we're on the forums chances are we are passionate about the game so we need to keep it real. I've written 1 or 2 of these before but just deleted them because I knew I was going to get s*** on in the forums as does most criticisms. I'm not sure what klei is going for, maybe they are now trying to appeal to the casual player so they are making all the skilltrees overpowered so more casual players gain interest but I feel it is not a good thing for the game overall. The game's direction is on a downward slope, it's been that way for years now. And I know the playerbase is increasing but I don't feel that is a good metric to show the quality of updates. I am happy with the updates. Could there be more yes, could there be less yes. Frostjaw was nearing a year old from its release, yet the bug of him walking on water is still there. I find it really odd since other mobs (e.g: Wurt's merms) can resurface when they drowned, yet this big shark couldn't even jump into the ocean and leap back onto the ice arena? Scrappig is now even 'forced' for players to fight, just to get back to Nightpig. If only the chapauldron had some other uses aside from protecting from junk throws (AND REPAIRABLE), then I could see people use it more often. The expandinator is just whatever, nothing too great nor too boring. Maxil20 Posted December 10, 2024 Share Posted December 10, 2024 These posts genuinely make me quite a bit sad, because it feels like people ignore the content that wasn’t bad and is genuinely quite nice for the game, particularly in a lategame context with things like the performance optimizations, elasticspaced chests, celestial champion’s requirements getting reduced, crab king having much more incentive to fight more than once, more renewable resources via marotters, gem trees, things like Wobots/winbots for tidying up areas with items in them, the new shadow crafts, more reliable ways to obtain pure horror, and numerous quality of life changes (such as Wagstaff finding the restrained static easier, the emblaming spritz to avoid brightshades from infecting plants or various objects changing sprites for decor, etc.). Look, I know these updates have not been the greatest updates ever and that there are genuine problems, but downplaying the things they did do that people like in exchange for things people didn’t like feels bad to me. They genuinely do care about the game, and I don’t feel doing things like this is going to magically remove the actual problems faster. I’m hoping at the start of 2025 they do work on genuine issues people have brought up in a polite and nice matter. I myself have a lot of issues with the great depths worm alongside the ickers/masques in terms of lategame threats being pretty painful for megabases to work around, but I want to bring them up politely in order to not cause more chaos that they are already going through. One thing is strategy, another is using features not meant to be used. 2) Crab king fight is now one od the coolest fights. I have heard little to no complaints about him. 3) Skill trees get changed mostly when in beta (except wormwood). It's fine. 4) The great depth worm is not meant to be a true true boss, more like a varglet but stronger, and still has some good loot. For scrappy werepig... yea, pretty mediocre loot, event hough his hat is cool to see very far and the robot is very nice. 5) Do people even remember how small were updates before? Sure, they are being realeased slower but when they used to be released faster they had little content. The real problem i see is difficulty... They are removing every single hard thing about this game, and people still complain about wendy not being op against bosses and other things like this. BezKa Posted December 10, 2024 Share Posted December 10, 2024 I'm just gonna say this: A lot of the updates had a large amount of new sprites, visual effects, sounds, mechanics, and the bigger the game, the more interactions between the elements and more potential for bugs that need to be fixed/worked around. Making new farms was significantly less work because they don't interact with the rest of the world that much. Unique weapons with various types of damage, world events, mob AI, etc interact with far more stuff and need to be proofed. + many many examination lines + add everything to the new scrapbook and other stuff like that. Adding stuff to the game for years creates exponential amounts of work, and updates necessarily must become smaller/take longer because of that. No matter how much we think we do, we cannot really see behind the curtain. We don't actually know what code needs to be rewritten, what sprites need to be drawn and adjusted (remember chairs? And how adding decorative, sittable objects mostly to just stand there and look pretty, created a need for sideways talking animation, also seemingly inconsequential aesthetic? That's work, that someone has to do.) and how the workload is split. Klei can't realistically show/tell us everything. With those weapons and skill trees characters steamroll through planar enemies too. Especially for the Greatworm I'm very content to have hostiles coming to me and they don't need to feature new loot every goddamn time, more strong enemies make me happy, rewards we already have plenty of... Otherwise the only thing I can agree with you is that the Crab King reworked fight is awful, but even this I want to blame it on the back of the community for making noise about the wrong things. Devs did what they though was right so I'll give them that, but it's not whining posts that will help them decide things better. Crab king was miserable to fight in the past and I used to just release swarms of killers bees on him and watch from afar. With the rework his fight is engaging and really fun, so I’m a bit confused by that complaint…I love the skill trees as well, perhaps some are more fun. I do agree the drops could be better from those bosses, however, I still enjoy their addition to the game. And if you need ANY proof of that, people didn’t need to complete base game DS before buying Reign of Giants DLC, they didn’t need to beat RoG before buying Shipwrecked, and they didn’t need to explore every bit of content of all previous DLCs before buying Hamlet. Sometimes people just want to experience something new and different in the form of a new DLC expansion, and since DST is Mostly NOT a story driven game adding new game content to late game funny rift activities just locks anyone who isn’t skilled enough to reach this point of the game, out of experiencing all the cool crap that’s locked behind a progress blocking wall. Look at Lego Fortnites new update that just came out today, they added new content to what you already had going on (new enemies, new ways to craft weapons, new locations & materials etc…) and they expect you to relearn the game all over again even if you have an already existing long-term world. But you don’t have to beat everything else first before just fast traveling on the battle bus to the new free dlc areas. that’s DSTs flaw with Rifts, the content that’s being added is locked behind a part of the game maybe 10/15% of players ever actually reach to experience.. But yet the Abilities were supposed to use to interact with this new content (like lunar Bernie, Willows Kamehameha Blast or Planar Moose) can be unlocked literally as early as Day One of any freshly started up world we join (provided you’ve previously killed CC and AFW at least once) This means that we have access to powerful skills that won’t be able to interact with the content it’s intended to interact with until you very painfully boringly do all the RPG fetch and collect and boss quest killings to open up the “late game” stuff it’s intended to interact with. Unless you cheat like I do and just toggle that content to ON from the settings menu (& by doing so if you haven’t killed CC or AFW you don’t have access to the abilities your intended to have to interact with the content you’ve enabled) In short: DST is not Terraria, nor should it be treated anything like Terraria. It doesn't appease people like you who want a challenge and no reward because it rarely spawns and it also doesnt appease people like me that actually want the boss to be seeked out through better loot. Authors try their best to fix glitches all the time in all products and all games, that's how it generally works. You will understand if you ever start making products or inventions of your own. 2. Crab King rework was a mistake, this I know alot of people agree. It's hard to excuse it other than klei sometimes listens too much to "feedback". 3. skill trees are a giant commitment that they probably underestimated and now can't back out of. I also agree they were a mistake. 4. bad loot is often a problem with klei, for sure. But too much filler and useless pointless items is also not ideal. 5. DST is becoming very old and it will not get updates forever. I strongly believe we've had more updates than there are left at this point.
