Klei updates vent

I have only one question I want to ask of you, If you will indulge my curiosity.

If Don’t Starve Together was NOT a 10 year old game that’s still getting frequent content updates to extend its lifespan, and it was Instead released as a brand new game “Don’t Starve 2” with all of the current hazards, creatures, things that you find annoying etc already in the game AT ITS LAUNCH, would you still take up such issue with it?

Because being honest I think people are being just a little bit too biased on how they feel the direction of the game should go or stay.. some people dislike skill trees, others dislike giant destructive base killing worm with no incentive to fight it.

But my question still stands.. I’m very curious to know what people’s reception to DST would be if it was a game that just released this month as a “Don’t Starve 2”

DST IS this "Don't Starve 2", bruh. It continues from where DS left off, aka what happened after Wilson was on the Nightmare Throne.

That said, I don't find it healthy for Klei to just shove everything they could (and had) onto this one single game only.

It's just like PvZ2, where PopCap adds more broken plants yet barely has anything game-changing to the formula.

I had expected Klei to be done with character reworks after Wilson's skill tree, yet guess what happened? And I find it very strange why they didn't just do some minor character fixes like how Wortox got his soul teleports be better in Wickerbottom's update. Instead they proceed to make Willow doing fire blast, le funny Woodie's Lunar Renegade perk, etc etc.

So in conclusion, I won't be opposed for having the "hypothetical new game". Just like how I hadn't opposed of DS's DLCs (btw, those are actually fun).

I've only heard bad things about the old crab king, and I may not have ever chosen to fight him without the changes. I enjoy the new crab king and have heard positive reception from almost everyone. I haven't heard of any major glitches with him

Is anything I'm complaining about valid?  If we're on the forums chances are we are passionate about the game so we need to keep it real. I've written 1 or 2 of these before but just deleted them because I knew I was going to get s*** on in the forums as does most criticisms.

I'm not sure what klei is going for, maybe they are now trying to appeal to the casual player so they are making all the skilltrees overpowered so more casual players gain interest but I feel it is not a good thing for the game overall.

The game's direction is on a downward slope, it's been that way for years now. And I know the playerbase is increasing but I don't feel that is a good metric to show the quality of updates.

1 they will probably not and removing both void walk and lure plant was necessary for the game health in the future 

2 I enjoyed the old crab king but the new one is just batter in my opinion 

3 no they will not 

4 the problem with the great worm is that it doesn’t even appear 

5 because there is a lot of people in the forms who asked for longer time between the updates but more quality

Well I love pretty much everything they've done this year.

Crab King rework is just as awesome as the Ancient Guardian rework was.

The ocean is getting better and better with every update focused on it. I hope we get a Spring and Autumn surprising seed variant in the future. 

Late game caves are a ton of fun now, it's more dangerous, and they're adding reasons to explore other parts of the cave than the ruins.

I'm glad the great depth worm doesn't have any unique drops, since there's no way for you to summon it. I've played a very long world now and spent quite a bit of time in the caves but haven't seen it. It's fine as it is. 

I wish the Scrappy Werepig fight dropped something better and I still would love spyglasses added, but otherwise this was a great year. Also I'm waiting for Walter to get something interesting in his skill tree, but that's still in beta so it's fine.

Sadly this has become a hard to swallow pill...

The Crab King fight would be better if the animations were improved... One of the few times i've been let down by Klei animations.

The ice is REALLY BAD. They need to make the visual match gameplay mechanics better. The cracks / holes dont line up and the amount of times I looked safe just to be forced into the water is ridiculous. Basically DONT trust the ice animation at all and just learn the timer in your head. The animation lies.

Trust me it gets worse.. the Hallowed Nights update has new content tied to late game shadow rifts (which newer players won’t ever see)

The Winters Feast Twitch drop is a skin for the Armored Bearger rift boss drop.

I miss the days where Twitch skins were for simple stuff i’d use often like a crockpot or top hat..

The SKILL Trees.. oh dear god where do I even start? At first I liked them but Wurts skill tree absolutely SUCKS…

The good parts are locked behind late game boss fights.

I genuinely haven’t been “excited” about a DST update since probably Curse of Moon Quay? 

The new pumpkin carving stuff looked like fun, but I can’t figure out how to do any of that (never learned how to make giant farm crops much less Pumpkins…)

The game has went off and left me a veteran player with 100% achievements across both DS & DST behind in the Dust.

Im waiting to see how the Wendy skill tree turns out and what comes of the 2025 roadmap.. but honestly maybe this old timer just needs to learn when to call it quits hang up his boots and watch the sunset.

I have kinda of adapted to a mindset, of just enjoy and chill, the game might not be hard but there's plenty of things and people to mess around with

To me Wurt's skill tree was really a let down when it comes to her concept, but about this year it feels that we are not getting forward nor the survival aspects are getting upgraded.

But the only thing we can do is to wait for next year roadmap and hope Klei listens to the criticisms about the game direction

It would have been cool if the merms would have helped you with suvival, like foraging a few resources for you without your input. But we just got what we already have but now she is 10x stronger at combat. (Webber outclassed even further now)

I think starting from scratch was kinda dumb. He just needed a few tweaks, mainly with the claws.
