Jam and Pickle Food

Recommended Posts

I would love to have more interaction with Pearl Bottle, it's look more like a jar than Shipwreck bottle, so I think we should be able to trade Pearl Bottle for Jam and Pickle recipe, Jam and Pickle food last for 70 day before it become spoil, or last forever if it in the ice box, but doesn't give that much stats, you can only pickle vegetable, fruit, and mushroom. So it's like jerky but for non-meat.

The reality is wrapping paper plus the cooler bag thing makes this completely obsolete before already being put in the game.

If expanding upon ocean content is a priority, to where finding a bunch of bottles becomes a thing, I'd think the most realistic thing would be to give you more expensive/renewable rewards from pearl for turning more in.

Past that you get into the territory of potions, which imo seems redundant with the way food works in this game, plus starts to really step on Warlys toes.

The TLDR is I think the only viable solution for bottles is to keep them as a currency and potentially just add more things to spend them on

Tbh warping paper is nice but its pain to constantly warp and unwrap stuff and the bearger bin is a late game item. It would would nice to have early game/mid game  version of these things.

They are but getting a ton of bottles isn't an early game activity either

I get the thought process but you're talking about new content that's completely obsolete on release

I love this idea and have suggested it in the past. The jist is to have a vegetable version that competes with jerky.

Farming produces so much leftover food that potentially goes to waste or you end up bundling stuff which can be tedious.

My idea would be that no matter what you put into the jar it would always have a flat amount of hunger+sanity+health. This would make it easy to just not think about what it is you're pickling and enforce the idea that it's to reduce potential waste.

Spoiler

Potentially: The jar takes in 5 farm vegetables and after some time always produces a long lasting item that give 50ish hunger + 20-30 hp + 20-30 sanity.

Adding mushrooms (not red) would produce a lower tiered variant as theyre easier to get 30-40 hunger, 10-20 hp, 10-20 sanity. Akin to small jerky.

Adding any red mushrooms makes it sour which has much lower stats ex: 25-30 hunger, 0hp to -3 hp, -5 to -10 sanity. This would still add a way to make red caps a less harmful consumable without/with less damage for other characters other than wormwood. Akin to monster jerky

I gave this suggestion several times before, I would enjoy to turn any fruit or vegetables into preserve rations. Jerky itself could use a boost in longer lasting, it's pretty good stat wise for it's cost efficiency imo but doesn't last enough for later game nor can be stored anywhere unless bundling to last longer.

We either need some kinda cellar and barrels to be added for DST to have excess food prepared to last longer or other means of keeping all of that food if it's not gonna be something we keep in bearger bins.

It would also be great if we had caviar (for example, frog caviar) that can be salted

Warly's toes should be chopped off and replaced. Because of his dishes, cooking in general and he as a character are a lot more boring.

Having a single delegated character who can cook special things, but beyond that having nothing special, has been disastrous on a small scale.

For every other character, cooking only honors the 3 stats. In other games where cooking is present, foods have other effects rather than replenishing basic stats. But then we have a character delegated to all that. Because this game can be played solo, everything Warly has is both unnecessary and puts a chokehold on the entire cooking mechanic as a whole.

His entire character should be revised and all his dishes should ideally have their effects spread out for the rest of the survivors.

Cooking in general getting revamped should definitely be a thing  (maybe a way to incorporate the cook book into the crock pot too)

What you mention would actually be a really cool and interesting change,. Something I'd like to see discussed on here more often,  probably pretty high on CoL updates

Essentially revamping cooking/food in general , and reworking Warly along with it to keep him useful.  I think warly just has a huge way to go to be on the same page as Wickerbottom when it comes to utility/support

Brass tacks is that bundling wrap needs to be nerfed if anything more interesting with food preservation is going to be implemented.

bundling wrap is somehow the properly the most powerful item in the game and the most inconvenient at the same time. It stops spoiling but it it can only hold four items, you cant see whats in the bundle before you open it, and you have to unwrap and rebuddle the things over and over again.

Cooking should stay simple as a whole. There isn't much of a need to make it a minigame, unless your name is warly.

"Revamping" isn't something that is sorely needed. Just cooking for different reasons outside of eating your crockpot results. Aside from spoilage time, what's the difference between bacon and eggs and beefy greens?

They're functionally the same thing when fresh.
