I wish food served different roles. I will go to my grave, all the while bringing up Gorge as a concept that's dead in the water, buried forever, the child forgotten at soccer practice. Gorge is the second son, disinherited, neglected and quite frankly, the unwanted mistake, but to me, it is not.

Concepts from gorge could have made it into the game. For example, I wish you could feed pig king certain crockpot dishes once per day, in return for different items that correspond to the difficulty of the dish relative something standard.

Things such as meatballs and meaty stew would yield a big gold bonus relative to their hunger value with meatballs giving 2-3 gold and meaty stew giving 4-6.

Eggs and bacon, or pierogis could give special things once per day such as piggybacks or saddles. Maybe dishes native to the underground would reward you with items that would be useful to the caves, like miner hats or lanterns in exchange for unagi or mushy cake.

A whole quest system for foods would make cooking outside of filling the funny yellow bar a lot more extensive.

That's just one example.

I think food sources are balanced well enough, but I want more culinary options for us to be given - give us an oven to bake goods and wheat to produce!

I switch around food sources each time I play from the start, if it's something like a public server I rush for digging mushrooms because I know most food sources will be harvested anyway.

If I play solo I enjoy recently to gather tons of nuts seeds and berry bushes to have a trailmix source I could keep cooking cause it's generally an easy meat and quick big healing snack to harvest and have plenty of.

If I do reap what you sow I would need to put a ton of effort into it because I want good crop combos and preserve most seeds which takes away a lot of time out of me. But it's fun regardless, but I often leave Rwys as mid to lategame farming cause it's extremely efficient then compared to when I need to move around and just gather whatever I can get to do bosses or tasks done.

I play efficiently and I keep all things to hoard and place for farming. If I wanna be boring I get stone fruits and kelp, as it gives me rocks and veggies for pierogy to sustain me into lategame.

I've been playing Wurt recently and live off potatoes and potato seeds. I use meat I get on the way to use eggs as filler for creamy potato pureé.

As any other character, I always swim in meat, I haunt a lot. Volt goats, tall birds, spiders, hounds... So I always end up making honey hams. Except for Wes. I survive off jerky when playing as him because the low hunger value makes the eating schedule not as strict.

I really like this idea. Other stuff such as special foods to attract Koelephants, craftable weapons (like bombegranates) would be a nice way to encourage farming.

made a meat rack

Jerky (and drying racks) need to reblanced, drying racks are expensive to make a lot of and jerky itself spoil pretty fast. I get that it can "refresh" spoiling meat but I always eat all before it goes bad anyways so not really a point there.

Plus bundling wraps dampen a lot of the spoilage time upside, making it less impactful.

Ive been playing a lot more solo lately and honestly Kelp farms are a godsent
i need to see more people use them, they are insanely good for everything

want hunger? 1 meat 3 kelp
want sanity? 5-10 dryed kelp and youre good as new
want health? make pierogi with them

you can get them in huge quantities in lunar island, dont need to be fertilized, and are useful for all characters

Wish you could get a renewable source of bull kelps

So like a DST yaarctopus. I think that could be cool. Frostjaw could have worked like that instead of only giving bootleg getaways.

Yeah that would be pretty cool. Could definitely fill the niche, as he doesn't die. We WERE supposed to get more than one frostjaw, but there's a good chance it's going to be aggressively memoryholed.
