What content from Shipwrecked, Hamlet, Forge, Gorge, and New Home do you want to see integrated into DST?

Recommended Posts

In the new animated short, it turned out that Klei still cares about Shipwrecked, Hamlet, Forge, Gorge, and New home.
This made me think of the possibility of those contents being integrated into DST. It's HYPE.

So, what content from Shipwrecked, Hamlet, Forge, Gorge, and New Home do you want to see integrated into DST?

I wrote in another thread, my most desire is Gorge were implemented as a challenge similar to existing bosses that reappear periodically in DST. The new non-combat-based challenges are fresh, fun at multiplayer, and incredibly fascinating. The importance of clothing may be reconsidered in the balance that has been biased towards armor and backpacks.

And I would also want a Trawl Net from Shipwrecked. It was really fun to drag the Trawl Net around and search for treasure in the ocean. I think the DST summer needs more appeal, so I would like to have a Trawl Net as a summer option.

(I'm also know of the Tropical Experience mod, I think is an example of how some players would like existing content to be integrated into DST.)

definitely the solo boats from shipwrecked, and some of its seasons mechanics

Also, why is everyone like, questioning this animated short ? It's just a nostalgia trip not some sort of teaser just like they said.

The animated short wasn’t a tease of what’s coming to DST, it was only a nod at where the franchise has been (including the Chinese only at this moment NewHome thing..)

But personally I would be willing to pay Klei 20$ for Shipwrecked & 20$ for Hamlet as long as they did the following:

#1 were paid DLCs for DST & NOT their own stand alone games…

#2 All my skins and characters I’ve unlocked over the years in DST were useable within the SW/Ham expansions.

And… #3 Only I need to Own the DLC but can invite friends who do NOT own the DLC to join my game world.

3 is important… it’s how Minecraft & Lego Fortnite can sale DLC and still stay in business.

(could you imagine if someone couldn’t join your Lego Fortnite if they didn’t buy the same Lego lighthouse you did?!)

As for Gorge and Forge… no one on XBOX got to play either of them, Nintendo Switch Players didn’t get to play either of them, the upcoming Netflix Games Mobile players Won’t get to play Either of Them, and I don’t really understand the Appeal behind them.

I would definitely cheer for SW boats, SW season/wheater stuff and Hamlet-(like)NPCs. And the mants! And biomes in general I adore to have a detailed world.

(about gorge and forge I have never played them, but I'd love to have goat people simply because I love everything goatie and sheepie. It would especially be nice if the goat people had domesticated beefalos, voltgoats, maybe some other variations like the old beefalo for example. For forge I don't know since if I had been around when it was avaible ingame I wouldn't have played it anyway since I don't like compat. But I like the lava-arena AESTHETICS (maybe for a regular underground biome? Near where on the surface you can find the lavaponds) and maybe some of the mobs....actually so far the only thing from forge I'd like to see would be the baby spiders for Webber.)

Forge and Gorge should just be re-enabled as things you can play without mods.

As for the Hamlet and Shipwrecked stuff, I think it'd be nice if we got them as DLCs for DST. Yeah, sure, they're the one reason to play DS over DST nowadays (unless you just want a much simpler experience with original/Reign of Giants DS), but I don't see that as a valid reason not to give DST the same content after all this time. DST is basically a sequel and DS doesn't really get new content anymore. For people going back to DS or playing DS for the first time after having spent a lot of time on DST, it's such a downgrade in complexity and options since it's missing all of the new stuff (and several playable characters) that people like, and there's not enough mods that backport those features over to make up for it. Obviously DS should still exist and get whatever bug fixes might become necessary as time goes on, but DST is the primary Don't Starve game right now and it'd be nice if so much interesting and fun content wasn't locked behind an out-of-date experience.

Of course, for now, all of these problems can be fixed with Tropical Adventures and other mods. If they ever add Hamlet and Shipwrecked DLCs, though, I think Klei should add Klei servers pre-set to those world types, or if it's done like Tropical Adventures, a server or two pre-set to have DST, Hamlet, and Shipwrecked content in one world (and you presumably start on the DST mainland).

I wouldn't want anything from solo brought to DST, but I'd love for the character reworks and reap what you sow brought to solo, among some other minor additions so the two games are mostly identical aside from the obvious late game features of DST such as ocean content, lunar related stuff, shadow weaver, etc. Basically anything that is an objective improvement on an existing piece of content and nothing that's genuinely *new* content.

I would hate this…! It would ruin the entire reason I even go back to and play the single player game from time to time.

Because sure Reworks in DST are cool or whatever… but sometimes maybe I enjoy Pre-Reworked characters, and as an Xbox player there’s no mods I can install to go back to a previous version of the game.

Klei needs to leave Single Player DS alone, you don’t mess with perfection.

The only DLC thing I'd want to come to DST is the whole Interiors thing from Hamlet

And maybe the option to use the old crafting so it's not as hard to jump between one and the other

Hardly perfect, there are some things i wouldn't want Wolfgangs rework for example, but WX's rework is simply an objective improvement over gear goat. I could handle Wendy's changes minus the potions and i guess the sisturn. It would definitely have to be a pick and choose of changes for the reworks.

Yes, I know... but there's also "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" that a song about the crucifixion. Even if there is a high chance that it will not come true, I want to chase dreams.

I play single player DS to play a Non-Reworked version of Wendy, one with an Abigail that requires throwing her flower on the ground and killing a nearby rabbit to summon Abigail from, one that if Wendy is to die at the feet of a Deerclops but there is a resurrection stone available, I now need to figure out a way to get back to my stuff and retrieve the flower of my sisters spirit that lays intimidating me at his feet.

Adding DST reworks to solo DS just doesn’t make any sense.

Enemies in DST are scaled in health to accommodate for it being a multiplayer game, and the reworks/skill trees have helped tremendously in rebalancing it to be playable by solo players who prefer not to play in groups with strangers.

But to add those strong perks to Solo DS without also rebalancing every single enemy in the solo game (including in both DLC expansions as well) would be Overkill.

So let’s not even put this idea in Klei’s minds, because it’s simply not worth the time or effort, and the payoff could end up being so minimal it legit puts them out of business unable to recover.

Hate to sound so harsh, but sometimes that’s just how life works. :(

I'd like to see a DLC port of Shipwrecked and Hamlet to DST with the new character reworks and farm rework, and maybe some DST bosses added into them, but that's not likely to happen.

If were just taking things from Shipwrecked and Hamlet, while I haven't played Hamlet yet, after playing Shipwrecked there are somethings that would be neat to add to DST.

-Shipyards for repairing your boats when you dock them.

-Bottlenose ballphins for recruitable allies and they can also help you mine rock and salt formations or fight rockjaws and seaweeds or attack the boat of Powder monkey raids.

-Buoys

-Chiminea

-And honestly if they continue adding more stuff to the ocean I can see Woodlegs being a viable character they can add, with treasure hunting being a thing they're making more valuable and he can have bigger boons to sailing and maybe unique boat equipment he can make.

1. The unique mechanics of seasons in Shipwrecked implemented to the sea in DST. Some mechanics like strong winds and flooding are nice additions for the harsh environment it is supposed to be in planar era. If they cannot be totally make them into the main land, Klei can create new islands (which are always welcomed) and add these mechanics unique to these islands.

2. Characters, because I just adore all of them. Actually, I think the concept of Wurt's skill tree is somewhat similar to the civilization growth of Pigmen in Hamlet, and what Wilba's skill tree would be. Now that we have skill trees Klei can be a lot crazier on how to rework them. Hell, I even want Billy the Goat to be playable.

3. NPCs, mostly from Gorge since it has most NPCs among all of them. Wagstaff has been opening portals everywhere now, so I would like to see some of them pass through the portals and rejoin us in the Constant.

like others have already said; there is not going to be solo integration, even so if we are just having fun imagining things that would be nice? top of the list would be biomes as islands. let me sail my chest of trinkets over to pig king or hop on my boat and make a hasty retreat if dfly gets too hot to handle, i would be delighted to wade through the deep forest to plant my staff and fight off a hoard after a half day's sailing through the shady overhang~<3

also jungle flowers would be really neat<3

It wouldn't put them out of business to put some time aside to work on their solo version of the multiplayer game, sure it doesn't inherently bring in money, but they have new titles coming out and they're still putting a lot of time and effort into ONI despite it largely being a finished product, new dlc not withstanding that work doesn't equate to income. And like it or not Klei has the backing of tencent so as long as Klei doesn't do something tremendously dumb to warrant loosing that partnership I doubt spending a few spare hours to make sure that the experiences between their largely identical but separate games is mostly consistent regardless of consumer decision.

If working on a game just for the love of adding to the experience was so unprofitable Terraria simply would have disappeared in 2011, and modding in general wouldn't exist for any game. This is the biggest point of contention for me when it comes to DST, as its difficult to not see its updates purely as interest refreshers to bring people back to buy skins or get free advertising off of youtubers posting about each update, not because they inherently want to improve and tighten the experience to be more palatable and balanced, otherwise we might have actually gotten a summer or even general seasons rework. Not to diminish the passion they do have, but there's a clear cause and effect going on that overshadow it.

I think they should start with only one of the possible additions at a time

Add an area of gorge gamemode as an island in the ocean the player can find, along with all those npcs. Make mumsy like Pearl, in that you can do tasks and jobs for her to improve friendship, and make it so you can rebuild her and Billy's house, like pearl.

Introduce Gnaw as an optional boss, but instead of combat, its just the gorge gamemode but in Dst. Not all bosses need to be fights and i think a cooking boss would be cool.

I think thats probably what I would want to start,

Now that i think about it, not much really

-Tar and tar accessories

-Hedges

-shears (for early game Vs scythe late game)

-Furniture

-Buoys

-SLOT MACHINE

-Steamed Ham Sandwich

Aaaand thats it i guess. Everything else im indifferent

As for hamlet, basically everything, but seeing as that's unrealistic, I think these features should make it in within the next two months.

Lawn turf is probably the most prettiest turf in the entire series. Stone road is just so neat compared to cobblestones. It's not even a matter of balancing. Stone road and cobble stone function exactly the same. Steamed ham.... But I understand it's a bit of an overpowered dish. As for the hedges, just make it a hay wall skin. Honestly, I don't understand why it isn't made into a skin.

Klei basically owns hamlet, unless they secretly don't which someone would need to correct me on that. But assuming klei actually owns hamlet and not McConglomerate some place offshores, just sell the hedges as a haywall skin. Literally, there are mods for this. If an unpaid modder can port this into the game, I don't see how the studio that invented hedges can't do so within their own game. Much less for extra money.

Think about it, klei. Put in hedges as a skin and this puts your descendants through college.
