Changes

  • Communal Kelp Dish and Superior Communal Kelp Dish can be used to call nearby merm to gather followers.
  • Merm toolshed tools and armermry armors will drop from dead merms.
  • Advanced Cachebox will no longer drop items the player already knows about for scanning and will drop an additional item if the player knows all of them.
  • High numbers of Purple Gems will start giving the Crab King’s mobs sleep resistance.
  • Green Gems increase Crab King Claw damage as well.
  • Increased Crab King’s wave push attack timeout.
  • Crab King ice arena now breaks and kills things during its creation.
  • The Merm King now pushes away very close inventory items when created, to help avoid sticking them underneath him.
  • Added new animations for Closely Examining things.


Bug Fixes

  • Fixed chopping down Above-Average Tree Trunks making all nearby Mossy Vines fall.
  • Fixed crash when the cannon in the Power Monkeys’s boat is destroyed.
  • Fixed Cannon Tower sometimes not disappearing when destroyed. 
  • Fixed being able to store items in Armermries and Tool Sheds while not being Wurt (or wearing a Clever Disguise).
  • Fixed bug where dismantled G.E.M.erators may duplicate gems when loading.
  • Fixed Charged Elding Spear being unequipped on save load cycles.
  • Fixed items keeping their water effects when teleporting to a Teletransport Station.
  • Fixed mosquitos spawned by Skeeter Bomb not following the thrower properly. 
  • Fixed Crab King Mobs not being able to spawn.

Oh, will other Merms grab them from the ground to use it? And can Wurt grab them and equip them? I need to test that.

Oh nice! Now I need to rethink how to use my skilltree points cause this seem pretty useful! Having to go hunt the merms is always a pain, they do like to wander around.

While this doesn't completely fix the issue with them fleeing from Wurt after having tried this out myself this is not only really cool but really useful and a pretty good compromise!

And this just straight up perfected the mosquito branch you guys really did a great job with Wurt.

A bit sad that we'll need to kill merms to get their tools though but I'm still thankful nonetheless @Creatorofswamps

Yes you have to kill them for it but it keeps all the functions of being able to chop, mine, and till the soil.

Turns out Wurt can't use the armor herself but interestingly she can give them to normal merms who normally can't use them.

Overall I am satisfied with this beta. The ocean now actually feels more worthwhile, and its actually crazy that killing Crab King off spawn is a good idea, and also not terrible. I might have expected too many crazy things with my initial crab king thread like a week or two ago, but I hope that he'll be fine.

A bit sad that Winona only really got structure skills and no other perks that modify her hunger speedboost mechanic or giving her a funny toolbox, but honestly the skill tree brought her up a lot as a character so i cant really complain.

I think Wurt was fixed quite well. Im very glad to see kelp dish got an additional use at least, also letting tool shed allow farming is really nice. Im also glad terraformed turf can grant wetness, I wish all marsh turf did imo

Honestly sitting back and looking at it I'm amazed at the end result for Wurt's skill tree as it feels like no skill point is wasted now every choice feels equally valid and rewarding in it's own way offering choices that will greatly impact your experience it's really everything I could have wanted from a skill tree.

This is not normal sleep resistance that shortens the amount of time the crabs sleep. They don't wake up earlier than normal, in fact they still don't wake up at all by themselves. This makes it take multiple sleep applications to put them to sleep, starting at 2 uses for 1 pearl + 1 purple going up to 3 uses at 1 pearl + 5 purples. The knight takes 1 additional use to be put to sleep, so they cost anywhere from 2-4.

Hmm so unless you have a wicker with sanity food and like 10 sleep books it’s a bit unreasonable to use purple gems now I wonder what the new gem meta will be?

Yeah, the only skills I find underwhelming rn are mental fluidity 1&2, mermdom skills all seem pretty fun now.

Wicker would likely get attacked out of the animation before it finishes, and that animation needs to play multiple times now.
The way I see it:

  • Purple: Unusable without some character perk (i.e. wormwood moon shrooms, bernie, abigail, etc.) because 1 gem after pearl makes crabs take multiple pan flute uses.
  • Red: Unusable because 1 gem after pearl makes cannon cause boat breaches.
  • Blue: Not great because the ice stage disappears faster, making you lose a big damage window.
  • Yellow: Not great because the boat takes a beating.
  • Orange: Fine.
  • Green: Fine (assuming they'll patch the bug where claws can get stuck inside your boat).

(Disclaimer: when I say "unusable" here, it is perfectly doable to do the fight with them, but I can't think of any reason why I'd want to.)

I wish they'd up the minimum gem count on purples and reds so we could at least use some of them in a pearled fight without having their worst effects.

Sad, but understandable. I guess they didn't want her to "steal" Wigfrid's hability to make cheap helmets. But I'm happy that we can use the tool at least, and being able to give the helmet to normal merms is great. Thanks for testing it!

I think overall the best thing in this update is wurt's skiltree. Klei got sooo many great recommendations and applied everything in an interesting and fun way to play her.

Her skill tree is one of the few ones that actually feels like a skill tree rather than a char update no.2

Ok so orange and green gems that’s gonna be annoying to obtain early on I guess this will make Wilson skill tree a tad more useful

Not really about the Beta, but does the Fantasmical Craftsmerm House belonging also apply to the merm Flortifications, like how the upgraded versions of Wig's Items do?

 

Back on topic, but I hope with the Crab King rework they re-add the winters feast skin before christmas.
