Terrarrium boss should spawn next to the item

Recommended Posts

It's always quite frustrating, especially in public servers, where someone can troll/grief and have the boss spawn all over the place, especially if it's the Twins.

I think a good fix should be the boss spawning next to the item or whoever activated it.

even ignoring griefing potential it's insanely frustrating to try to kill eot/twins in a public server because istg even if you get 7 people together to fight the boss it seems to always target the lone willow at the other side of the map gathering twigs

Everyone is busy posting on the beta threads. It's too bad this won't get the recognition it deserves.

People have been asking for this for ages and for whatever reason, klei doesn't want to grant it.

Imagine receiving this game as a gift, learning after 10 deaths how to build a crockpot and getting together winter clothes, about to survive till your first winter and suddenly, a boss you never asked for targets you, and your best weapon on hand is a tentacle spike.

Klei hates money.

This is how it works in Terraria though, Eye of Cthulhu just spawns and targets a random player on surface.

I'd say git gud and whoever dies, dies.

I get it's frustrating on public servers and terrarium actually opens a portal to terraria with the pixel beam from it, so the bosses should come from it, but I still understand why it works the way it does.

Maybe just don't touch the thing on public servers, or get all players on the same page in this multiplayer game, you all have access to the chat, right?

In terraria The Twins shoot laser and fire in DST they don't, seems fine to klei for it to not match Terraria, it's a different game after all.

This gives off "do you guys not have phones" vibes. Of course we do, but it doesn't solve the issue, why should everyone drop what they're doing for you? If people don't want to/can't come to you then you're out of luck.

Getting 10+ players to fight the boss or be near the area is such a big ask in a public game, hell even with a group of friends in a server.

That’s a certified DS moment.

I wouldnt mind a crossover Pt. 2 that added more mechanics to the twins, like elemental laser attacks, and modified how they spawn. Maybe adding some funny basic slimes as enemies

Give terraria Dragonfly and we're square

I crave more crossovers in general. Fiending for them.

in terraria, bosses spawn on whoever used the boss' respective summon item. Yeah the random boss encounter works like you said but in dst we are explicitly trying to summon the boss so i feel like it would make sense for it to work more like how boss summons work in terreria (which is basically what everyone in this thread is asking for).

Not only that but dst doesnt have an easy way for everyone to teleport to their teammates regardless of where they are on the map. Also Also terraria bosses show up on the map while dst bosses dont.

Could be something they cant do anything about. It was a crossover after all. Probably have to contact Re-logic to do anything id assume

CotL had no problem retroactively changing their Webber character to be excluded from the sex update, lol. I'm pretty sure Klei has full control over the code for Eye of Terror.

does the eye of terror spawning at a random player somehow deny klei of potential money

lmao. if that were true, they'd release more skins.

Put it this way.

New player has no skins > New player likes the game > New player envies others with groovy skins > New player buys one skin > and then another >and then another > Until new player buys the whole set.

Now, new player no longer needs to buy any more skins because they have what they want. now they have become a veteran who waits every cycle to buy new skins.

There's less money in vets because chances are, they already have whatever already released skins they want, whereas the new player starts with nothing.

For a new player to actually enjoy the game and learn at their own pace, it's prudent to not have a boss they didn't ask for, nor were they prepared to fight drop on their head, kill them for no reason and then F8 quit burying this game in their steam library before they had a chance to like the game enough to buy skins.

they'd only get skins for early game items though, unlike people that played for a lot of time

i didn't mean that EoT should target random people

We all started as people who only played through early game

no one knows if they'll continue playing

Worst solution ever.

This is like, a cartoonish scenario you're describing. How many people out there are going to be willing to put up with all the other ways this game is unfair and unpredictable, but immediately close the game and go pace in angry circles around their room because of the eye of terror specifically? Wouldn't they rage quit much sooner to beefalo, or red caps, or otters, or tallbirds, or spiders, or hound mounds, or pigmen, or merms, or tentacles, or SOMETHING? Or are you specifically describing a scenario where a new player's very first death is to the eye of terror, and they get so mad they never touch the game again? This cannot be nearly as common as you're trying to present it.

None of those scenarios are remotely as deadly and out of nowhere as the eye of cthulu or worse, the eye twins killing you.
