Swiyss
I love winona and her design, it's one of my favorite character designs in the game actually. Keeping her an engineer was definitely a wise choice. Here are some of the new things we got shown. Outside of her skill tree (Winona QoL). Winona's structures are now dismantable, and can be portable and replaced. Winona's structures now have an LED indicator to show wether the machines are Working or Sleeping. They won't consume energy asleep. The LED will blink if it's connected to a generator, will be turned on while on use and off while outside of an energy source. Winona's structures will now cost less energy to use, and the Light structure will be the cheapest. Winona's skill tree. Winona now has a remote controller that can be used to force attacks from catapults nearby (4 tile range in a circle). The remote commands are similar to a willow and maxwell spellcast, and catapults can Queue attacks. Her remote can be recharged by putting it on the ground inside the range of any generator. In her Charlie side, Winona can refuel generator with nightmare fuel. In her Wagstaff side, Winona can power the G.E.M.erators with pure brilliance and Enlightened Shards. The shards will power the G.E.M.erator infinitely but inflict a cooldown after some time, and the pure brilliance will make the structures inside very powerful but overload (?) Multiple Wobots. A new tiny robot called WINBOT can be crafter by winona, it's a faster W.O.B.O.T but with less % apparently, and it's also rechargable by putting it on the ground inside a generator range. And at last, a teleportation station. My thoughts as a Winona fan. I absolutely love her skilltree. We didn't even get to see Charlie side and it's already one of my favorite skillsets that we got until now. Mainly being able to teleport anywhere, having multiple wobots and the remote spellcast are my favorite things. That being said, I have some thoughts in mind to share about her engineering side. If that's not already true, I would like a way to transport multiple catapults in your inventory. Say I wanna do AFW fight and bring 20 catapults, but 20 slots is a lot. So either make them stackable, be able to wrap or add a way to transport them. Winona had a big problem with the lack of uniqueness of her, mainly she was a swap character. They said they'll make her more unique with her skilltree, but the catapults are still usable by other survivors. So I suggest we add a second spell to her tree where Spotlight focus on one area instead of following the player, and is brighter if focused. Spotlight could also shoot a Lazer with the remote with a spell cooldown, that way she would be the ultimate fighting engineer. I would really enjoy if Winona could automate food making. It really takes a long time sometimes. Maybe a crockpot upgrade where it remembers the last dish and dispense the items from your inventory to the crockpot with a single click. I would really like if there's still time to make an automated fishing rod. An automatic boulder/tree destroyer etc.. I know I know it sounds too automatic, but it really is her identity, she is the only engineer in the game, It would make a lot of sense for her to automate things that takes time to do. So my suggestion is mainly to add more automation to her only. Swiyss
Edit: The whole "Engineer" idea is to design easier solutions to already existing problems. She has too little solutions to very simple existing survivor "problems". In a sense of gameplay, surely she would be the best character to survive in the entire game. But because of balance issues, there's still this debate on wether we should make her overpowered compared to other survivors or not. Take walter for example, he's a scout with a bunch of amazing features and little things in the game that can help his survivability. He's got a lot of things I myself consider overpower, but they're very fun to actually use. I feel like we shouldn't gatekeep her. She's a very special character, she's Charlie's sister. She should probably have more impact on lots and lots of small things, not a super op feature in one thing only. Walter is the same, he's very great at doing lots of things. But he's still a scouting kid, not a demon that consumes souls like wortox. That's why he is what he should be. Take Wormwood for example, he is insanely easier to use for farming, and with his skill tree, he's now insanely good at lots of little things at once too. He was already very great at doing lots of special things since he's a plant, like collecting barnacles from sea weeds, not getting attacked by lureplants. Now he even got photosyntesis. I feel like she SHOULD be better using every single tool in the game. She SHOULD be stronger at fixing problems and finding mechanical solutions to very small specific things. She should receive more love. And now is the time for that. Please make Winona shine. I'll comeback with more suggestions later. flamboyant wolf
I really like her skill tree, even though we've not seen all of it yet. I'm glad they went in that direction. Gonna be fun to experiment once the beta is out. Anthony_L3hr
I really like the idea that Winona incorporating Wagstaff's gadgets and devices, like how the design of his Telepad seems to be repaired/revitalized. Gives me a headcanon that Winona found Wagstaff's old, abandoned Telepad that he left behind, as per usual, and Winona took the reigns. Say I wanna do AFW fight and bring 20 catapults, but 20 slots is a lot. So either make them stackable, be able to wrap or add a way to transport them. I suggested this thing of her items specifically being packable for a few years now. And the fact that the items are not stackable is what keeps this perk balanced. It makes sense that Winona's travels really packed in gadgets, and can drop 4-5 catapults and a generator on a pinch at any given situation. It wouldn't make sense to my point of view if she can do the same and drop 40 catapults out of the blue at any given time. So having the inventory con is kinda necessary, and having friends help you carry your setup, or have to make several trips for a special boss event, makes more sense as a general strategy. This mechanic already exists with Warly, he can create a mobile kitchen at any place, use it and then pack it all again. In reality nobody does that because Warly needs touches here and there, but the OG mechanic is the same. KrazJoe
Klei doesn't want her to be a switch in character, but unless Winona herself, minus-ing her structures, brings equal value to other non-Wes characters, she will be a switch in. Being able to move them so you don't have to waste boatloads of stone for each boss arena is already extremely good imo and it's not like FW or whatever boss you're going after will spawn while you're making the second trip anyway. goatt
Just give her a reason to stay then. Like allow her to repair structures semi-passively. For example, a tool that repair or refill walls / big pillars / boat / flingomatic / lamps / batteries (for catapults and spotlights without gem) / salt lick in a range or in inventory up to 20% with an one-day cooldown. (repaired structures' durability cannot exceed 20% unless using normal repair/refill materials). That way, she has value to stay active. Frosty_Mentos
Skill trees feel like they're bringing out more fun to the characters overall, I'm enjoying seeing the gal have more substance to her engineering degree(?) and hoping shadow aligned one will be pretty good too, Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/156109-new-winona-skill-tree-discussion/#findComment-1714558 Share on other sites
Mike23Ua
Here’s the tldr: of Winona rework- her kit items now go into energy saving mode and power themselves off to save power on generators, You can side with Charlie to power them with nightmare fuel, or Wagstaff for pure brillance. Her kit items can now be picked up and relocated, they can also now only be used by her (goodbye other players using Nona catapults!) And perhaps the one thing that intrigued me the most in her skill tree items is the Mini Wobots.. yes Nona gets her own Wobots, and like the game “The Survivalists” the Wobots follow a Monkey Mimic mode to see what Winona picks up and puts in a storage box, to then automate and start gathering and placing that resource in the chest for her. Its ALLLLLL OF THE YES! Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/156109-new-winona-skill-tree-discussion/#findComment-1714562 Share on other sites

If I could pitch out suggestions, Ditch the robot Wagstaff engineering type stuff and instead allow Charlie herself to directly aid and assist Winona. Such as for example, spawning Shadow Hands that root enemies in place to help Nona fight against them. Or something like that.. Its going to be a slight disappointment for me if Nona sides with her Sister and then gets some disappointing gadgets from that pact.
