In the future when wilson was experimenting something failed as usual and the explosion that happened from the failed experiment bashed, smushed wilsons nose in. For the eyes they just deteriorated as time passed cause of the chemicals they were exposed to. Also nose shape changes throughout life. I really, really don’t like the theory personally My explanation was a joke, maybe should've made it more obvious. Wagstaff obviously plays the role of Wilsons new mentor/idol. Wilsons last name is Higgsbury while Roberts is Wagstaff therefore they cannot be related or the same unless Wilson had to change his identity for some reason. Also Robert is a very american name unlike Wilson who might be a european immigrant. I don't think it's meant to be taken literally, just like how Shipwrecked's logo almost certainly isn't meant to convey the entire ocean being a giant octopus floating in the air.
