problem with the guardian tree

Recommended Posts

Hello.
No matter how much I sing, I can never summon the guardian tree. Only an animation of some bats appears that lowers my sanity, but the tree boss never appears.
What is the problem? because at the beginning of the game they did appear, but then they stopped appearing.

The "guardian tree" spawnrate is rng based. So unless you stop chopping trees, you need to keep going. I hope this helps :)

It depends on luck, Once on day 300+ I chopped 200 trees and no tree guard appeared.

Also, once I chopped two trees in the early game and I got 2 tree guards, (0,017689% chance of happening)

So, depends on your luck.

Yeah, but it's been about 200 days without any showing up and I haven't stopped cutting down.

At first glance I thought this post was a poem about Halloween.

You’re probably just getting unlucky.

To be fair, the first 3 verses rhyme.

"No matter how much I sing,"

"I can never summon the guardian tree."

"Only an animation of some bats appears that lowers my sanity"

Make sure you are planting the trees as close together as possible and as many as your sanity allows.

My first year if I need living logs I would plant over a 100 as close together as possible. Then get a group of pigs and chop from one edge to the other

1.33% chance of spawning a Treeguard

Are you perchance using the werebeaver? This form guarantees no treeguard spawns.

There are 4 of us, one of us sometimes logs in the shape of a beaver, but we already know that with that shape they don't come out, and that's why we have been logging normally for 200 days, and it doesn't come out. It may be bad luck, but 200 is a lot of days. I will continue testing

The more trees near together, the higher chance of a tree guard. The older the tree is, the higher the chance, but stronger the tree guard. Bearger is good for it.

Another non rng-way to get living logs is killing mushgnomes in the lunar grotto.

Is this true? I always was under the impression that the chance for a tree guard is the same for any age of trees and density is only relevant to the amount of trerguards that spawn around (if you chop a standalone tree there won't be any nearby to turn into trerguards). Can you please link to the source confirming tree guard spawn rate increase for older trees?

To OP: the easiest method if you are looking for the evergreen treeguard is to chop only dead evergreens. They fall in one hit, but qualify as a chopped tree. Doing that as Woodie in his human form will make it faster because he has a higher chance of summoning tree guards. If you are just looking for living logs, you can also go into the caves in the Lunar Grotto and kill mushgnomes. They drop 1-2 living logs.

I am pretty sure insight mod shows when hovering over a tree. I dont see anything on the wiki, though the wiki can often miss things or be wrong. Their has been multiple incidents. I remember hearing it alot from many people, randoms to trustworthy, youtubers to strangers. Small evergreens have the smallest chance, and large ones and dead evergreens have the maximin chance.

I am pretty sure you are right about this.

Are you sure the mod is right though? Some information mods can show wrong or confusing information sometimes. And if it is right and showing the proper spawn chance values then could it be that you are interpreting them wrong? Say, checking the values on different aged trees but not at the same moment but at a different world age which actually does increase the chance of spawning them?

It takes it straight from the game code.

I cant go on dst rn to check.

I just checked myself. Standard worldgen, no server mods other than Insight. I turned all Insight settings to "Yes"/"Enabled" even though I didn't find a single one relevant to showing treeguard spawn chance. I don't see any of the trees showing their chance, neither in a fresh world nor in a 100 day old world. I also couldn't find any mentions or YouTube videos about this mechanic. To me it looks like an old myth/rumor with no actual proof.

that's not true, there's a 1/75 chance that's used regardless of day and tree size, the amount of treeguards depends on the amount of days (0 with <3 days survived, 1 with <30 days survived, 1-2 with <80 days survived, 1-3 otherwise) survived by the player that chopped the tree or world day if the tree was chopped by something else, the size of the treeguard depends on the size of the tree but birchnut treeguard chance depends on the amount of days and season, chances are 15% in autumn, 8% in spring, 3.3% in summer, 0% in winter and the chances are multiplied by 0.2 if <20 days survived, 0.5 if <35 days survived, 1 if <70 days survived, 1.12 otherwise, so the chance is 3% before day 20 in autumn and 16.8% starting after the start of day 70 in autumn

5-10 follower pigs and a dense forest = tree guard from day 5 onwards

For some reason if you recruit followers pigs or merms for chopping the chances for tree guards to spawn "seems" to massively increase even from the early days. Never have problems getting living logs as any character apart from wortox and webber.
