Ice Crystaleyeser still really bad?

Recommended Posts

Right now it's fine. It's mostly for summer, and if you want to get the twigs, grass or the ice formations just rush in the radius, remove the eye, collect, replace the eye and you're good to go. Still, have a few ice flingomatics around.

They said it is still not good in Summer.

i don't know but for me it perfectly works in summer.

It doesn't even freeze me, probably because i don't remain too much time in base.

it's still a great defence against wildfires, i don't have to rely anymore on flingos/fig trees if i want to base outside oasis, and this thing alone make the eyecrystalyzer a perfect structure.

My friend who is experience explained how thermal stones and stuff dont work

They work, but they get cooled down very slowly. You need to place them on the ice for their temperature to instantly get set to 0, then it'll take much less time for it to get down to the minimum.

Havnt tested it myself but apparently warm clothes work just fine in its radius.

They do, that's also why thermal stones get cooled down very slowly, they have 120 innate insulation, same thing as a player with a winter hat.

Does it need reworked?

There is some wonkiness with how Thermal Stones function within Crystaleyezer range, see:

Quite goofy innit! Self-heating thermal stones.

Other than that though, winter gear still works perfectly fine and I enjoy that dynamic. I do think Crystaleyezer is "bad" but not for post's reasons, alas!

Welp a friend of mine(Quakeszzzz) use them to perma freeze brigthshades so it has an use

He's messing with this item in twitch these days if u guys want to check that out

Ahah i knew it perma froze. Thank you, i wanted to perma freeze my brightshades too

I am not fond of crystaleyezers in the slightlest, they have a huge cooling range which in theory sounds very good for summer, except it just freezes you like polar lights do.

You may think "well just use a thermal stone then", thermals cannot be heated up during summer, so your only option is using winter clothing which I am not a fan of, I much prefer extending above average tree range by using lureplants for wildfire protection.

can you unsocket the eye from the crystallizer? if so, it could be a temporary structure that can be enabled every summer

You can. Basically just socket in the eye when you want to cool down then turn it off when summer ends.

So what I'm seeing is yes it is indeed still really bad because people's solutions here are to make a dozen scaled furnaces or carry a sunfish during summer to circumvent it

I tried to use it to replace my flingomatics with the plan to unsocket the eye outside summer but it was freezing me inside summer anyway so I said screw it and just leave it unsocketed all year unless I get super desperate to harvest stuff that withers while it's summer (which hasn't happened yet)

If the crystaleyezer made the temperature around it -70 from whatever the world's current temp was that'd be great, wouldn't freeze during summer but would in all other seasons

If your friends complain about freeze, you can use the dragonfly furnace like this.

a beautiful ice maker.

Imperfection is a big thing in DST. Perhaps, Eye-cer is imperfect in a wrong and unpleasant way. But I think it's acceptably imperfect. Tho, I do want some improvement to make it less annoying.

I just wish the heated Thermal Stone would balance it's temperature too, Using sunfish is a bit inflexible after all. My base just a short distance from the boat's Tin Fishin' Bin, but if you live further inland, keeping the sunfish fresh becomes a hassle)

In my head, Eye-cer is comparable to the unpleasant version of acid rain. It wasn't just unpleasant or annoying to deal with if we ignore the fact that one is a beneficial structure and one is a late-game challenge.

Use dragon chili salads. I put a bunch in my bearger bin and works great. I use them even in summer if I'm near my crystaleyezor.

I'm honestly not sure if the downside to using it makes a lot of sense, truth be told. Pillars, Lightning rods, Above Average trees, umbralla, Scaled furnace etc don't have any real downside to using em, I'm really not sure why something limited to 3 a year and locked behind post CC boss fights needs to have such a severe downside. With all the maintinence they require between socketing at the start of summer and regulating your temperature you really may as well just use flingos.
