Wigfrid Skill Tree: The Hopes and the Wants

Recommended Posts

What do you Wigfrid mains think will be added with the skill tree?

Or what crazy singular skill do you hope they add? For me, I want them to add the ability for Wigfrid to eat butterflies as crazy as it sounds.

What are you guys ideas? What do you think they'll add?

Sincerely,

Cactus

This is so hard because Wigfrid is pretty fun to play as right now and I worry that buffing her will negatively affect that. Wigfrid isn't usually identified as OP, but only because her max damage output doesn't match Wolfgang/Maxwell/Wanda. Wigfrid's existing bonuses are incredible: her damage buff is immediate and passive, not to mention she has incredible defensive abilities (natural damage resistance, easily craftable armor, and health/sanity restoration from combat). She can't keep up with Wolf/Wand/Max in terms of damage, but in terms of making the game easier for the player Wigfrid treads very closely to being overpowered imo.

However Wigfrid's downside, while not terribly intense, does force you to play the game a little atypically by spending more time hunting than at base. Killing + eating spiders/batilisks maintains all three stats for Wig better than most other early game methods of doing so, for example. So even though Wigfrid's existing bonuses make the game a lot easier, her incentivized play style differs enough that playing as her is still uniquely engaging and fun. Wigfrid is very easy to play as without stepping on the toes of other characters/players, which is nice.

For that reason, I'd rather Wigfrid's skill tree lean more in a "fun" direction than a "powerful" one. Too many attack/damage resistance buffs could render Wigfrid's early game basically effortless to the point of it being unfun. Planar compensation obviously makes sense, but beyond that I really don't want Wigfrid competing with the heavy hitters in terms of damage output. New songs could work (although I've still never really found the time to use the existing ones) and spear throwing is a great example of a combat perk that won't negatively affect how people play Wigfrid. Maybe a viking longboat craftable that makes naval combat easier?

Basically I'd rather Wigfrid get unique things to do rather than stat buffs.

Wigfrid's skill design can be like Woodie

Wigfrid's skill: There is no direct increase in damage except for planar damage and Shadow/Moon damage

Optimize and enhance existing skills, and obtain a breakthrough skill for each skill branch

Adjusting inspiration (easier to obtain and maintain inspiration)

Adjust the war song (singing time, effective time, more effects, repeat the war song to take effect)

Of course, there can also be some modest numerical enhancements

Adjust the combat spear (proficient in using spears, with spear damage bonus, throwing spears)

Faced with many enemies, gain additional damage reduction and shorten the time interrupted by enemies

Innovative Skills

More exclusive equipment (spear, helmet, wings)

Shield and block counterattack (other weapons linked to shields, such as sea fishing rods, consume inspiration)

Spear throwing, obviously.

I'd like a planar damage boost... However... I'd like a more intensive system than just a flat planar additive or multiplier. It would bother me if she had to spend and entire perk point on a damage boost, that is absolutely inferior to Wolfgang in that niche.
I would find it really sad to waste an entire slot just to be a budget Wolfgang.

I think she should have exclusive brightshade and void crafts.
In my nerding out, I've found sources of Loki, the trickster god and not the marvel character.

Loki himself crafted a weapon called "Lævateinn" and because of the sheer mystery and vague nature of the weapon,  Klei has unlimited creative liberty when it comes to design and function of the craft.

I believe that lunar/shadow alignment for Wigfrid should present her with different crafts.
There might be a risk of Wigfrid being a switch character or a craft slave, so perhaps in the hands of other characters, make the crafts simply on par with brightshade sword and the scythe, but for Wigfrid, grant her an exclusive boost in damage and if the crafts are spears, allow her to throw them as well.

So, let's begin

Lævateinn, Shadow aligned. Norse mythological weapon crafted by Loki.
VERY vague when it comes to function in traditional norse mythology. It is thought to be either a sword, wand or dart. But the beauty of it, is as I've mentioned before, Klei has absolute creative liberty when it comes to the craft. It can be absolutely anything. But to highlight it being a dart, it doesn't even need to be a spear in order to be thrown.

Gungnir, Spear of Odin
I'll easily concede that Gungnir has very little to do with the moon or Mani in norse mythology, but as the kids would say "Let him cook"
The moon right now has strong association with Wagstaff right now, and when it comes to my profession in grasping at straws, the moon's role in DST has correlation to dominion and Wagstaff's role when it comes to dominion in the constant. It's not the same as Charlie's obvious manner of dominion.

However, Wagstaff has a freedom that Charlie simply does not, as he still associates with the normal world, unlike she does. I'd haphazardly put a circle in a square just to get Gungnir into the game.

If there's a better idea for a moon craft for an exclusive weapon for Wigfrid, I'm all ears.
But man, Wigfrid getting Gungnir would actually be so B.A.

To supplement Gungnir and spear throwing, Gungnir is said to be so well balanced, anyone can throw it and never miss a target.

I'll add more ideas if I think of them, but honestly, In lieu of a flat planar damage modifier, I would seriously prefer a craft that boosts her own planar damage.

As for songs, I propose she has a book that grants her the ability to sing "All these things I've done" by The Killers in Wigfrid's voice. The entire song.

I only really want this:

Would be great to cross little gaps between lands and all, apart from combat power.

I guess Weaponized Warble could also further lower weapon durability usage (or even prevent it).

Her skills could also lower Inspiration drop rate out of combat or even lower Inspiration cost of some Battle Songs, allowing her to utilize more than three songs at once plus allowing to use Rude Interlude and Startling Soliloquy for free.

I also hope pretty useless song like Fireproof Falsetto will get some love, imagine just setting Wigfrid on fire when using that Battle Song! Some would hate it (Wormwood) but some would love it (Willow).

Edit:
I'd also like to get a little storage out of basic equipment for the Battle Songs, maybe something similar to Wilson's Beard storage but only for up to 3-5 Battle Songs. They fill a lot of space to be easily used while clearing ruins and during some more intense Boss fights like AFW or Crab King when inventory space is extremely scarce.

Wigfrid is a actress playing viking.

She should have some seafaring skills for her voyaging. She could build a better boat too.

Seafaring tree:

T1 Crafted boats have more durability.

T2 Boat patches heal your boat for more.

T3 Have better control over your boat while using a sail.

Polearm efficiency:

T1 Gives 5% more damage to polearm weapons.

T2 Gives 10% more damage to polearm weapons.

T3 Gives 15% more damage to polearm weapons

T4 Gain the ability to craft javelin (only used by Wigfrid)
