Emkonr
With the upcoming Skill Trees, we feel the urge to daydream and theorise about what fun new skills would the future bring to our favourite characters. And with Klei's ideas already being presented, nothing seems impossible. Which is why I propose to give Walter the game defining ability to craft the Potato Cup™️. For those somehow unaware, this relic has a long history with Klei, and is in fact present in their hit game Don't Starve Together, as an offering to the Pig King for whole 9 golden nuggets. As you can deduce, walter crafting relics would be a big deal, securing profitable trades with some simple vegetables. I can see how unironically game breaking would this be, even if the recept would cost more than just one potato. But you can't deny, it'd fit right into Walter's can-do attitude of a boy scout! And Walter is (to my knowledge) the only character who has an actual use for relics outside of trading, namely using Melted Marbles as ammo for his trusty slingshot. Maybe Skill Branch focused on crafting, replicating, or even locating relics with Woby wouldn't be out of question... Speaking of, Walter's Skill Tree should definitely look like vest of badges and be boy scout themed, we need more personalised Skill Trees after we saw Wormwood's. Lastly, I know that the community is slowly being oversaturated with Skill Tree theories, and I'm sorry for fanning the fire, I just had to get this out of my head. Also if someone thought of this already then please tell me, I don't want to come off as a plagiariser. TL;DR: Walter could use Potato Cup for renewable trading, him crafting it is entirely in character, and he already has use for another Relic, so him having specialisation in them isn't entirely baseless. Also Boy Scout-themed Skill Tree, please. _zwb
Change potato to gold might be a bit too good considering how cheap farming is currently But I'd love to see more potato cup jokes in the game, it's been a while since they add this kind of joke items Edit: NO WAY I JUST GOT POTATO CUPED BY NOME Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/149325-walter-should-be-able-to-craft-potato-cup-seriously/#findComment-1648973 Share on other sites

One additional reservation I have is that this'd make Potatoes even more OP, what with them being all-year great food-and-heal source, and even being used in moostorms... One way around this would be Walter making the cup out of something else, like say Garlic, as a pseudo-relic I guess... Imagine though, Cup Skill Branch: lvl. 1: make somewhat tradeable cup out of log Lvl. 2: make highly tradeable cup out of garlic Lvl. 3, unlocked after trading the Potato Cup to Pig King at least once: make the holy grail of trading, a Potato Cup Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/149325-walter-should-be-able-to-craft-potato-cup-seriously/#findComment-1648977 Share on other sites

Would be nice if this perk is linked to world and you have to slowly get those perks. On one hand, skills transferring over the worlds kinda defeats the rogue-like feel, but on the other it solidifies your own meta progression in the game as a whole, I feel. If you gained them faster than one point per five days or how is now, then I could see it working. Popian
Could implement this by letting one use a Bent Spork (gets consumed) on a Potato. Could also have the fishing spoons do it with a less than 100% success rate. Can take it further by letting them take a long time to dig with a low success rate. Spino43
This will ruin don't starve. The raw, unfiltered madness and joy when you manage to dig up one in the graves or at ancient pseudostation is the true don't starve experience. Allowing a lowly, short, small, insignificant ant that is a survivor to be able to craft it is a crime against humanity. On one hand it'd be a bit more fair, basically upgrading relics, but it'd be too inconsistent to make it a Skill worth picking. If it unlocked more ways of upgrading relics then maybe? Or it was a part of a bigger branch. I've thought about it requiring a Pocket Knife, similar to how Woodie uses Lucy in his crafts, but that'd require the Pocket Knife in the first place, which could be a Skill Branch in and of itself. I can't imagine ot being hard to craft, sorta like Wolfgang's whistle, so it wouldn't really make the Potato Cup harder to craft, but it's just a little detail I didn't know how to bring up in OG post. 2 hours ago, Cheggf said: He could make imperfect potato cups which are worth 1 gold True! It'd preserve the rarity of the original, be more balanced, and still have the memey potential of Walter not being able to grasp the ancient technique of previous masters... Baark0
Wouldn't even be worth making potato cups, you clear the ruins once you have enough gold for 1000 days Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/149325-walter-should-be-able-to-craft-potato-cup-seriously/#findComment-1649359 Share on other sites

I somewhat agree, I did say it'd game-defining ability, and it's true that if he could craft the actual relic, then it would most probably devalue it, unless it read "Walter's Potato Cup" or would be visually distinct, like Potato Mug instead. 3 minutes ago, Baark0 said: Wouldn't even be worth making potato cups, you clear the ruins once you have enough gold for 1000 days You clearly don't understand the significance of Potato Cup™️ /joking It's true that better Gold-making methods exist, just like basically everything in the game; why bother fishing when you can shoot at barrel of fish with cannons? Why bother chopping down trees yourself when you can let Seasonal Bosses do that for you? Why bother hand-picking Lightbulbs when you can have Lure Plants harvest them from the path of Reanimated Skeleton? All these methods share one thing though; they're decidedly not for beginners, or even early game. And while Ruins Rushing is taken as easy by a good chunk of the community, it's still challenging even for intermediate players (look at Walik's Scienceless Ruin Rushing, it's intense!). This Skill would provide a stable gold production year-round for players that are scared of Ruin Rushing, are begginers-to-intermediate, or even don't have caves enabled.
