$200 Speedrun Tournament - Four Prizes Being Given Out

Recommended Posts

First of all, big ups for u guys for having the initiative to make this happen, it takes energy, it takes effort.

Second of all, thas sound like fun, despite having a prize or not, it is a such fun way to play the game and tournaments are exciting. I will be looking around.

I myself stayed up many nights fixing the speedrun.com leaderboards in preparation for the tournament and even then just barely managed to make it in time, but it's honestly all been worth it for the opportunity to bring DST speedrunning back into the spotlight and do something that the community can enjoy :D

I'm hoping the twist ending is Joe comes back after 7 long years to preserve his record.

Joe will have his work cut out for him if he intends to regain his title. The current top spot is a Day 3 kill... and that person's first attempt took 7 days. The second attempt went MUCH better.

And just so people know, we are offering prizes for 1st ($100 USD), 2nd ($50 USD), and 3rd place ($25 USD). You don't have to be the best time to win something, you just gotta try... and you can try as many times as you like before the Submission Deadline of July 29th.

May the Gods of Science and Magic bless your RNG!

Thank you for upping the prize pool. I can't wait to see the best run.

Next tournament should be something like beequeen pre nerf.

pre wortox fuel weaver would also be cool.

Joe ran pretty much all of these, but nobody contested his records. I wonder why.

@hhh2

Here is the current 1st place contender, @Walik_ aka the Master of Bunnies!

His 1st attempt was 7 Days, 2nd attempt was 3 Days, and now you better not blink or you'll miss the whole fight. Practice makes perfect...

I recommend subscribing to him on YouTube, where you can see his other attempts.

Will there be any limits to how many times one person could win? (In future challenges)

Might be discouraging to see the same people winning over and over again, but at at the same time it would be against the spirit of competition to exclude them.

@HowlVoid we are still discussing that scenario but I'm leaning towards a 3-consecutive-1st-place-wins limit and then we would ask that participant to wait 3 months before re-entering. But we don't know if that will actually happen just yet... so we need time to see the results.

when did bee queen get nerfed lol, her original version was by far the easiest (no honey trail of any sort, 17k-ish HP, etc)

also wdym joe's fuelweaver record was uncontested, the current record (by me) uses wolfgang, not wortox, and before that it was held by KoreanWaffles for many years (also a wolfgang run), and before that it was held by french tomahawk who got a sub 3 hour run not super long after joeshmo's day 25 (also wolfgang)

Sorry I used all my IQ points for the day before making that post.

I can only assume yall are using a mod to revert toadstool to its pre-nerf days?
I'm just curious, I'm not a speedrunner whatsoever.

EDIT: Ignore me, I realise it now, yall downgrade to the update, though I am curious as to how, I'm not familiar at all with steam and game updates

tl;dr we just swap out the files in the DST folder with the files from the toadstool beta patch (obtained from steam depot downloader I believe). The files are licensed and can't be run without owning the game so it's essentially just downpatching but made easier since you don't need anything other than the old files

They can win once in each category (if there are several categories in a tournament), but I don't think limitting people's skill and ability to win is a good idea. Will look into it further with the other designers of the tournament.

Little update...

You don't have to be the fastest player to win something in the DST Speedrunning Tournament... there is a $25 prize for "Most Creative Kill". Thanks to @Juanasdf looks like we may have our Most Creative Winner.

Sure, their run is a smiiiiidge longer than Walik's mind-blowing entry, but he does employ the use of changing the starting season to his advantage... just like Walik did with his Willow run.

Starts off in Winter so he can get his hands on some ice and gears as quickly as possible before he heads into the Caves. Once he finds the Toad, he turns on his Freeze-Fry Death-Machine and gets to work. What he's doing (from what I understand) is trying to get the Toad to take damage in the same frame that it unfreezes... and thanks to fire damage from a couple of torch hits + the 3 Flingos... he does get in the groove with it right around the 2hr mark.

Once he's put the Toad into a frozen coma, it's simply a matter of beating it to death with a HamBat... plus occasionally setting it on fire for some additional damage, light, and warmth. Pretty clever and creative if ask me... might have just earned him $25.

Nice job on the Toadstool Freeze-Fry Glitch Juan! You have my vote for Most Creative... for now.
