Umbralla should be a long range weapon! (Not a light source or speed boost..)

People have been suggesting to make the umbralla a light source or walking cane replacement. I think this is a bad idea, the umbralla doesnt look like any sort of light emitting item and it looks like it would slow you down carrying it not speed u up.

What it does look like is a long ass pike. Klei could you give it the "spear jab" animation that the fencing sword has, boost its attack range to that of whips like alarming clock and give it 11 regular damage plus 40 planar damage for a total of 51 damage.

This would make it more useful as a hand slot item during acid rain plus gives it its own unique role as a slow long range weapon that isnt too strong but is strong enough to use as a nice day to day weapon for non-boss encounters.

I believe it repairs itself in acid rain too?.. i hope this effect stays.

Edit: it has a cool red lightning effect maybe it could do electric damage instead of planar

I honestly can't tell most of the time if the umbralla is doing this

After watching the YouTube video, I can say that yes, it is being repaired, but as soon as I get home, I will check it 100%

Would be great if it had some interaction with the ink mob trio, if acid rain would start only when you burn the miasma the fight and the rain wouldn't be so bad (As I felt it's pretty damn easy), giving it another layer of difficulty, a nice use for the umbralla as you'd be both protected and you could fight back.

Be cool if the umbralla absorbed lightning and became in an "overcharged" state like old wx gaining extra electric damage for a limited time and restoring durability.

What if umbralla should be alternative lazy explorer? If not void walking might as well as a repairable warping item

Oh or maybe umbralla could be a deployable larger palm leaf hut! To protect self and friends from acid while combatting an enemy while it keeps itself from being smashed down.

A few modifications to wagstaffs teleport umbrella could work as a baseline. If it acted like wortox's map teleport there would need to be a pretty hefty cost to not overshadow his perk. Like a big health loss of 20-100 hp depending how far you teleport.

Or teleporting you to one of the existing gateways in the world aka atrium, spawns, sealed portal... Some kind of ingame world travel network.

I agree that it should be a Weapon, but I ALSO Agree it should have a Built in Speed Boost & I can provide some pretty solid evidence to back up WHY it should.

 


look at how shadows (and Charlie possessed by shadows..) slither and slink like fast moving snakes- If that isn’t justification for giving the Umbralla Speed Boost IDK what is.

Speed+Spear+Umbrella seems to be on par with the BS Hammer which is a Hammer+Pickaxe+Weapon.

Making the umbralla a deployable shield against acid rain and/or a long range pike weapon would better suit its huge size when opened or long length with a spear tip when not opened.

He has a spear tip, I saw on the forum that in the game code he should deal 34 damage like a spear. Therefore, I will believe and hope that this will happen

If anyone can confirm this with the code part then i would be thankful because so far i haven't seen anything like this

I think people are leaning too much into acting like it's a bug, in reality it's just a cut/unused feature. There is no bug preventing the damage value being used, it simply wasn't added and was left as a variable.

Would like to see it used though! The problem before with acid rain was being left out of a weapon with only umbralla protecting against acid rain, though that's changed now. The fencing animation + longer range unironically doesn't look too bad, the up and down views aren't pretty however.

They can easily apply some edits though, if the umbrella closed when attacking I think it would be quite on point!

Yeah that umbrella needs to be closed  also what is the nopunch tag on umbrellas?

"nopunch" is a special case tag to make it so that the hand held equipped doesnt do the punch animation.

This case is needed for when a hand held doesnt have the weapon component, which is the umbrella!
