[Suggestion] Let the Brightshade Shovel dig 'undiggables'

Recommended Posts

Currently, the new Brightshade Shovel is a bit of a glorified golden shovel (Along with the new planar damage mechanics, but of course a shovel is not meant to be used as a weapon so that's there more so for consistency).

I think it would be really interesting and fun to have the brightshade shovel show it's strength as a post-CC tool by letting it dig what are usually undiggables and let you able to replant them! Stuff like:

  • Lightbulb Flowers
  • Lichen
  • Cacti
  • Natural Swamp Reeds
  • Lesser Glow Berries

This would be a game changer but again it would be fitting for a post-CC tool, a point of the game where the game becomes very sandbox-y for most, and giving this kind of world customization would be great.

Thanks for reading!

this would be kinda op and unbalanced, even though it sounds awesome

Well seeing as you have to kill an end game boss it doesn’t really seem op this seems more for decor as only cactus would really prove useful

Very epic suggestion, I love it.

Would be monumental for world customization and decoration which is pretty much the rest of the game once you complete the end game. And if someone thought it was OP nothing is stopping them from simply not using it.

Public servers never last long enough for it to be a problem on them anyway and private servers can be moderated as desired by the host so this would literally impact no one in a negative way. Those that want it would have the option and those that don’t can go on exactly as before. Seems like a no lose situation.

@Vinjabut i have a feeling that cc isn't the true endgame, I feel like a drop like  that should come from fighting charlie or something.

To me it would just make sense for them to add this now. It’s such a massive quality of life improvement that requires overcoming quite a tough challenge to acquire which gives added incentive for players to actually try to beat the endgame, and if new post CC content is added sometime down the line it could always be changed to reflect that if the devs so choose, which would be completely fair.

By the time you beat Celestial Champion you already have multiple infinite light sources, Stone Fruit for veggies and the ability to get tons of Banana Bushes for Sanity and Monkeytails for Reeds.

Replanting any of these wouldn't be all that useful per say but still incredibly cool for base building and decorations. I'm all for it.

I was hoping the shovel would either retain a plant's fertilizer or straight up remove the need for fertilization for berries, banana bushes and stone fruit. But that is also a neat idea, although replanting reeds would probably make monkey tails useless

Wouldn’t make them useless, monkey tails are available without ever defeating an endgame boss which only a small fraction of players have defeated. Monkey tails would still be the primary option to majority of players trying to create a reed farm.

Feels to me like arguing that the gold axe shouldn’t exist because it would make the flint axe irrelevant. No, both are fine and their usefulness corresponds with their difficulty to obtain.

but you can have it without killing CC right? through world settings

You can also get rid of sanity monsters, reduce damage taken, make hunger nonlethal, remove threats, spawn tons of resources

Anything other than default World settings are irrelevant to the discussion of balance.

Even then, Klei could do something like putting a system in place that checks for if CC has been killed at least once in the world and if CC has not been killed, the tools and everything would stay at around the same state they are currently, and if they have been killed, buff the tools to be more fitting for endgame content.

That just seems like a lot of work for a very strange reason

almost all of these undiggables are outclassed by something you can access on the way to CC to begin with

lichen is inferior to stone fruit, cacti becomes inferior to kelp via drying racks, lightbulbs are unnecessary since you have infinite light on both your head and the rest of the world in the form of forever full moons, natural swamp reeds are just a limited form of monkeytails; reeds hardly have recurrent uses to begin with and lesser glow berries are kind of useless. marginally helpful at most.

such a shovel would be almost entirely cosmetic, but it would be neat nonetheless
