Reset world - keep existing players with inventories

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I and my friend explored our first world. We got some unique items like walking cane etc. We know that we can start new world but we will lose our items.

Is there a possibility to regenerate (create) a new world, keeping our characters with items in inventory so we don't have to wait 20 days for a new walking cane?

Greetings

This could be a new game mode. Like Space Out DLC of Oxygen Not Included, which allows players to jump from world to world, DST can have a new mod which allow players to exhaust resources in one world and then jump to the next one, solo or together.

The teleportato was intentionally removed because it wouldn't work well in multiplayer.

I never understood this. If it was made so every player that's in the lobby had to agree to it, or leave it for admins only, what would be the issue?

Cause Don't Starve singleplayer was designed with no world renewability in mind. If you ran out of rocks in the world you are OUT of rocks, Lumpy Evergreens are one-and-done, Ancient Guardian and the ruins don't regen etc. So you worked on the idea that after exhausting a world of all its resources, you gather up what you wanna bring with you in your inventory and hop to the next world.

In Together, a lot of previously non-renewable things now regenerate, swiftly killing the idea that you need to regenerate a new world when you're out of resources. Cause you'll next to NEVER be out of resources, and you can neatly survive in your one world for as long as you really want.

but rocks were and are renewable, you could always get more from moleworms and earthquakes. Ice glaciers also give rocks in RoG. The only thing that was not renewable in RoG was thulicite and it's gear (unless you wanted to spend an eternity looking for green gems in tumbleweeds).

I love the teleportato because being able to reroll a world is great if you make a mistake or want more intresting world gen to mess around with. It should have been in Together, really.

Bad example then, my bad. But that was the overall design philosophy with the teleportato I believe. I don't think it'll make a return in Together, but yeah it would've been nice to mess around with.

Yes. But that's not what I imagined. It would be like a round based game, each world is a round. Each world does not have to have all resources, it require planning from world to world, as well as risk taking. There also has a different goal, not escaping, but something else. And boss and monsters are also modified to fit the mode. Maybe give each world a modifier, for example, some world rain acid rain, so every character will receive damage like wx from rain.

In short, it's a new mode. It's not simply teleportation to new worlds or whatever.

Honestly I'd love for the caves to work more like old don't starve was invisioned, except for ruins and the grotto of course, of course assuming we will get some worthwhile nonrenewable cave content that isn't the ruins to make a teleportato-like feature there even worth developing, oh and of course it should also be locked behind a vote that admins can only start.
