How to traverse the labyrinth?

Recommended Posts

While I generally try to not trigger the spider webs by sneaking past them along the edge, I recommend that you learn to fight the spiders. For example sometimes they will come down from the ceiling when you open the chests in the labyrinth, and I would much prefer killing them there and then rather than allowing my labyrinth to become infested with these buggers over time (of course this is only an issue if you get into the habit of resetting the ruins regularly by killing the Ancient Fuelweaver).

They are basically just reskinned spider warriors from normal spider webs. To practice, you can pick a web near the laby entrance, where you have easy retreat paths. When they come down from the ceiling, retreat a bit, then go towards them when they jump. Smack a few times, repeat; or just tank at that point. Always wear armour when doing that, and use a decent weapon, ideally something better than a spear.

My advice on how to traverse the labyrinth is the same as my advice on how to do everything you haven't done before. Make some safe ways to resurrect yourself, like red amulets and meat effigies, then go try! The penalty for death is very small and it's a lot more fun to figure things out on your own and not just follow a script where you know what everything is before you even see it.

normal solution: keep sneaking at the edge. Avoid or defeat bishop, avoid rook and knight, go to minotaur, light some stars, defeat Ancient Guardian.

less than normal solution: build a door at the corner of map, enable movement prediction, go into the void, avoid bishop, find minotaur, rescue yourself, kill AG, build a door the same way and return. In case you want to open chests, Wanda's backstep watch is very helpful.

beefalo solution: ride a beefalo and keep running throughout the labyrinth.

If you intend on fighting the spiders, consider bringing traps to instakill a few of them, otherwise make sure you stay along the sides of the labyrinth.

Also (iirc) Shadow Creatures and Hutch can trigger the spiders, so be careful with that.

Exactly, the true and best way to play ds. I can imagine it was never intended for example, to keep walking on the edge so you can avoid 80% of the spider nest. That ruins a lot of fun and experience you can have there, especially if you know that a special boss resides there in the end.

In the last weeks with my other friends ( my 58th people who i introduced and teached dst! ), they did for their first time blind the labyrinth. What a fun journey was that!! Seeing them prepare themselves to fight every spider nest and robot, dying a lot, strategizing where to go... it showed me how difficult and different is the labyrinth if you don't know what to do and don't """cheat""". I laughed a lot when they discovered AG and he did a jumpscare attack to them lol.
