Have you ever made any sort of mistake which ended your save/progress in an instant? What was it?

Ugh, I was totally stupid one time it was a really good 50 day world save of me and my friends, I decided to use the restroom once and forgot to turn it off, the hounds decided to come at the same moment I was away...

Not exactly the world's end but once I accidentally lit a fire inside my inventory while playing Shipwrecked. Luckily I had a touch stone.

Another mistake, not caused by me but by someone else being stubborn: While playing Wormwood, some Wickerbottom was waiting to use Applied Horticulture. No bee immunity back then was leaving me battling for my life to get the field done with because same Wickerbottom decided it would be a great idea to start a bee farm next to my crop field in the middle of Spring. Instead of helping me deal with the bees, Wickerbottom got impatient and left me for dead after I ran out of light and the night came. Crop field was rather far from the closest light source so I ended up dying.

A friend and I had a world that was going really well (first time we defeated ancient fuelweaver), but an unfortunate overwhelming hound attack caused us both to die. We had plenty of revive options available, and as I was going over towards a life giving amulet, my friend went to close out of a mod menu, but misclicked and accidentally hit the "Regen Now" button on the "Everyone is Dead!" message. There is no warning message to ask the player if they are sure that they meant to click it, so all the save data was instantly wiped, no rollbacks or anything.

Still wish there was a warning message for that, but live and learn I suppose.

550 day world

i just decided to call a friend and have fun in it then we both went godmode and destroy everything i had thinking i could rollback to beginning anyways

turns out its been 11 days since we started destroying stuff and i could only rollback only 5 days

i didnt care much to be honest

i was bored of that world and was already planning to regenrate

Oof, that SUCKS.  Dumbest ways I've died include:

--Death by Cat. No, not catcoon.  CAT.  As in, my real-life cat bugged me to play with him.  It was adorable and I thought I could do so QUICKLY, so I did.  I was in a nice quiet spot in the desert in nice weather, I wasn't hungry or insane...but this was when you couldn't pause, and I came back to find my ghost floating over a pile of my stuff because night had fallen.  Whoops.  : P
(this didn't end the world, though, as it wasn't my server)

Spoiler

I used to have my door open while playing DS/T and my cat would always come over and gently...--tap!-- me on the shoulder (yes, on the SHOULDER. I'm short, I have my chair low to fit me, and he's a big kitty) when he wanted attention.  It's SO CUTE but he has a tendency to do it _right_ when I'm concentrating the most (probably BECAUSE I'm concentrating), and that overgrown tabby has made me jump out of my skin more than once.  XD

Don't let the innocent sleepy pose fool you.  His ears are back!  He totally knew I was doing something.  : P  And  yes, you are seeing that right--he has little tufts on his ears. <3

--Accidentally hit the "Do you want to reset now?" YES button when I meant to just quit (and then reload, to reset the countdown timer and give myself more time to find a touchstone. Yes, I'm one of those players).

--Usual stuff like "didn't realise my armor was broken in the middle of a battle WHOOPSIE!"

--My actual first DS death ever WAS, in fact, because of darkness...but not because I wasn't prepared.  Because I was in a dense forest and couldn't put my fire down in time to save my life.
...literally.
(ba-dum-tish!)

Dumbest reason I've lost a world, however, is far and away:  GLITCHES.  More than once I've just not been able to log back in again or had my map suddenly erase, stuff like that glitch.thumb.png.2c95cc7f82dae599a3a4ab000cec2ff5.png
(it WAS on Day 300 + before this glitch, by the way)

...usually because a mod I was using, and usually not even a very IMPORTANT-to-me mod, clashed with a new bit of game code--and I didn't know that was gonna happen, so I couldn't disable it in time.  This is also how I lost my highest-day-count world so far, "Camp One-Foot-in-the-Grave" (the picture here is in memoriam for my "March of Civilization Challenge" world.)

...Notorious
