[Suggestion] Boat Fragments should drops Logs instead of Boards

Recommended Posts

There, I said it.

I love the new boat and boat patch recipes for literally halving the cost of early ocean exploration, but it has also rendered Boat Fragments nearly useless.

Before the March QoL beta, Boat Fragments were a nice enough source of Boat Kit and Boat Patch materials out in the high seas. Now, the Boards they drop can only really be used as firepit fodder, and you have to rely on Waterlogged Biomes to find Logs now.

Instead of Boards, Boat Fragments should drop 2-4 Logs.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

I'd rather boats just switched back to 4 board recipe, but this would work too.

Even if boats switched back, that would still leave the boat fragments useless for making boat patches, which I think is more important. Most people don't sail with the intent of losing their boat and making another, after all.

boat patches can switch back too tho XD

I prefer finding boards on the ocean.  It makes it feel different from land, and they stack better.  I'm not gonna gripe either way though, its more important ocean debris matches boats / patches than they are logs or boards.

Probably would be cool if they could just add different boats - minor skin variations, but one crafted from logs, another from boards, and maybe a drift wood version too.

come now, boards are still useful for making chests on board, Pearl's house level 1, glass cutters and a plethora of other things, I do love getting boards from floating sea debris, would be a shame if that too got lowered to anything less than 4 logs, which itself is painful to collect. I believe reverting the boat recipe to 4 boards is the way to go. And I don't think it matters too much if the boat patch require logs or boards as long as both the boat kit and boat patches are think-tankless, which, alongside with thinktankless oars is the useful part of the seafaring related changes, not the recipe changes.

Definitely - think-tank-less ocean starts is a godsend imo.  Since they released oceans one of my play styles is to get on the ocean as fast as possible and come back as little as I need.  Taking out the think tank saves a considerable amount of time, usually getting me on the water day 2 and I'm off.

On the boat patches - I think it would be cool if their recipe was more favorable for ocean life.  Perhaps instead of bee stingers they could use cookie cutter shells, who's drop rate got increased this beta.  I do think its important their construction matches the debris or maybe they get moved to drift wood (or like oars, we get different versions.  Drift wood patch kits that cover holes but heal your boat less? idk)

Completely tangential - but I think a BIG qol for boating would be to have all structures placed on a boat NOT block pathing so I can go back to building more full loaded boat bases without walling off my edges.  It was very satisfactory to have everything I needed on my boat.  We can fit 6 large structures on the edges with 1 in the middle, but then problems arise with wavey and with border / disembarking.  Also it is inconvenient in gameplay b/c I want a firepit central so it can light up all sides of the boat, so any other structures are definitely blocking edges - I can place 4 structures in a way that doesn't block edges, but then my light source is off center...

Boats look like they are made of boards therefore they should be made of boards. I don't care that a stack of boards can make more boats than a stack of logs, and I don't care that boards lets you get started faster by hammering pig houses instead of chopping trees. I just think the recipe is worse because it makes less sense.

Boats look like they're made of boards, it's implied other boats have sank which is why you find boards sometimes, and there wouldn't really be any negative difference if you just change the board cost or materials produced as others here have said.

Why can’t I just have the option to pick up boat fragments on the ocean as boards, or Hammer them like mining Salt Stacks to yield back logs?

You get both your choice of board or logs and everyone can be happy.
