Is Wortox a liar?

Recommended Posts

After crossover with Terraria I have thought what is Wortox role in Constant. It seems he is really not imprisoned like other survivors but is he that powerful how he says?

1. How I mentioned he is not bonded to Constant but he certainly treats this land like home. He even returned there after trip to Terraria with item didn't know how to use.

2. Sometimes the Wortox says it knows everything, but it doesn't want to say anything either. Is it true or does the Wortox just want to be more important to the other survivors who keep him safe?

3. Another example is vortox souls. He calls it that, but it's actually more like "energy" than a real soul. Because if the survivor dies, it loses the soul, but the ghost still appears. And that's why bosses lose more souls. They have larger bodies and more energy. Wortox just don't know what is his base of magic.

4. Wortox appears to be a child, but lies that he is an adult.

this triggers me everytime i play him

1. why would he not return? he wants to have fun whit the others

2. thats alsol what maxwell does all the time, does he lie too?

3. well i dont know, but dit you know ghost drop souls if they die?image.png.c354cc03a078cb5dae12bef9ec0f7083.png

4. how does he appear to be a child, do demons age like humans do?

alsol this

make out whit that what you will

well to be honest i think he really hides a lot from the survivors and maybe cuz hes workin with others? like wagstaff for example, what could force him to keep stuff as secrets. In archives he says somethin about not allowin the humans to know about "it".

As someone already said hes a imp and this race is known for lies and pranks around a lot, if isnt enough, hes crazy cuz his mind is fragmented by the incident with Krampii in the short animation. Some quotes from him afirm hes coo-coo like frazzled wires [as i can remember from memory right now].

so hes a imp, a messed mind, AND is hiddin stuff, but ye we can call him also a liar
and the cherry on the top, also a poet lmao

Maxwell never said that knows everything (e.g. lunar archives)

That can be explained. Ghosts in Constant must have something like imitation of psysical body which grants them interaction with material world (because you can "kill" ghost using spear). When ghost loses health enegy of its body appear as Wortox soul.

Another proof is Abigail. When she dies she dissapears and drop soul but can be summoned again.

well there is also the fact that "souls" do not appear without wortox's presence which means there is more than that

WX drops no souls even when overcharged.

I think certain parts of this discussion are looking too deep into something that is most likely just gameplay reasons and simply doesnt have to have any deeper meaning (like the crow people). Terraria colab, ghosts dropping souls, souls not dropping when Wortox isnt near. While stuff like WX not dropping any, Webber dropping two, etc, are just neat little winks.

But anyway, that aside.

There is actual energy and then theres the concept of life energy, or more commonly called, lifeforce. I believe they are talking about the latter. Its not exactly a soul or electricity either. Its some kind of substance that living creatures create and/or depend on.

Who believes in "life energy" and souls?

Its definitely not blood, but like blood.

Spoiler

Interestingly enough, it is kinda funny how comparing the gameplay behaviour of souls kinda mimics blood.

  • Outside of the body, they become useless after a few seconds. (Souls disappear, blood dries)
  • Both are red.
  • Back in ancient times, drinking blood was believed to cure certain diseases.

I mean, even though they are not mutually exclusive, thats the point. They are not souls, but lifeforce instead. Or they are both names for the same things. Really depends on who you ask.

Even though I think they are just souls and thats it.

Red gems are kinda the same color of the Wortox "souls", considering that it needs nightmarefuel to activate that raw life energy to revive someone that's lifeless like dead players would make sort of sense that there's separate things like 'life energy' and 'spectral body' or aka a soul.

Wortox clearly knows more than they're letting on, being able to read the Lunarunes in the Archive and being quite excited by what they're reading.

Besides that we know that they have absorbed the soul energy of a Kramus, a mob able to teleport in and out of the Constant so Wortox sticking around seems to be on a whim.

I don't think they're evil or scheming against the others, they just seem like they're enjoying the show.

That's probably just for game-design, more rewards for killing bosses and not making it so if you die near Wortox you no longer exist in this world and can't join back. Also, about 4-th, we don't know much about how imps/demons age.

Energy is Energy, soul is soul I'm not a fan of adding the same meaning for two words.

Well then why Klei categorised mobs that drop or not drop soul.

Because why not keep logic where you can do it without ruining gameplay? Also, that makes some balance, otherwise Wortox would be fully op in ruins or would just get insane from souls and in the end get even more souls by getting insane.

bosses dropping more than 1 soul has 0 sense, doesnt matter how much we can overthink about it

edit. also ghost = soul so another nonsense. Is cool that players drop souls and adds deepness in the lore (like weeber dropping 2 souls) but is weird
