PhoenixGaming69
I'm looking into doing a petroleum boiler to harvest as a power source. My maps has no volcanos, only hot lava at the bottom. Does anyone have a setup to propose? Glassyfo
Replace volcanoes with a liquid lock and bottle emptier for magma and it should work. You could also take advantage of pumps and pump magma. PhoenixGaming69
I read that a liquid pump in a vacuum does not damage the liquid pump, is this true? what kind of mats for pump / bottle emptier? lee1026
Liquid pump generates its own heat, so it will always overheat in a vacuum. In any event, you don't need a pump to move the magma itself. This design of mine works by using a bunch of window tile made from diamond (very high heat conductivity) to extend into the magma itself. At cycle 1000, the core is nowhere actually cool. PhoenixGaming69
nice! a single flume of heat to transfer to the boiler... how did you get the pitcher pump in there without killing your dupe? I'm very sqweemish to attempt at sending them down in the magma like that. do you have the save game / specs for the automation / sensors? lee1026
I just had the dupes walk across in atmosuits to build the pitcher pump; dupes can handle a fair amount without dying in atmosuits. rocketry.sav Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/116948-a-good-build-for-petroleum-boiler-without-volcanos/#findComment-1321079 Share on other sites

sheaker
Could You, please, confirm its functionality? I saw complaints that open doors are now transferring heat. Can't confirm now but if temp shift plates are next to the doors they will transfer heat Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/116948-a-good-build-for-petroleum-boiler-without-volcanos/#findComment-1321180 Share on other sites
lee1026
That build works for me; I can’t comment further on potential bugs. yoakenashi
I think it's worth noting that you can create a full 10 kg/s oil boiler with one aquatuner running super coolant; you just need an appropriate heat exchanger to heat up the crude oil and cool down the petroleum (this eases the burden on the aquatuner to increase the temperature of the crude oil). Spoiler I created several pools of petroleum to "step up" the temperature of the crude oil. As of the screenshots and this thing running for hundreds of cycles, the pools are: 250, 285, 325, 360, 390. My oil biome currently stays about 200; the main pool is 420. So the aquatuner only needs to increase the temperature of the main pool from 390 to 420. I overrun the main pool temperature so the crude oil quickly converts to petroleum, but as you can see I did have a couple issues with the petroleum state changing to petroleum in the one section of pipe when my pipes backed up. I had found that one large pool stayed about the same temperature since petroleum conducts heat rather well, and did not result in a good heat exchanger. The radiant pipes are made out of aluminum; highly conductive. The control is super simple (just how I like it). The aquatuner actually does not run continuously, though I could not give you the specific up time. SackMaggie
If you still want to pump magma you can do it but letting bottom left of the pump touch the magma and a little drop of other liquid on the bottom right.
