It's a modded 7-segment display. It's not the counter included in the vanilla game. Notice the lack of a reset input (and that it works with ribbons which the counter does not). There's screenshots, and sentences asking us to bask in his glory -- but nothing that tells us what is actually going on. I don't know why there's a 15x4 hanging out in space under the hammer, and the segmented display isn't the one that is in the game because, as @Saturnuspointed out, there's no reset. I have no idea what the pixel pack grid is there for, and the bit positions don't appear to make sense to me. So, don't worry if you're confused -- we all are.
