Bluefoxfire
Yes there are plenty of things you can build up to do just that, but what if you need to cool it quickly and you don't have enough time to build something before it gives off too much of said heat? Take the offending items, and make them into a tempshift plate inside a cold biome. It'll absorb the cold air and won't be a problem anymore. Then just take it down when need be. Granted this doesn't work with everything and cold biomes don't last forever of course. Still, it's a nice option to think about if you need to. beowulf2010
The best part is if the material is too hot, it will be capped at a maximum building temperature (45C maybe?) resulting in some deleted heat before the cooling from the tempshift plate. cblack
No offense, but building tempshift plates is slow, especially if you play with low dupe counts where dupe labor comes at a premium. What I like to do is put it on a conveyor, and then run it through aluminum tile, along with radiant aluminum pipe in the same tile. Then chill the fluid with an aquatuner, and you can quickly cool things, even if they have a low TC. cblack
Since when does building with a material delete the heat from it? If you build a tempshift plate using hot materials, it will be hot. Maybe if the total thermal energy is reduced, but then I'd consider it an exploit and avoid it for that reason alone. Quote "but what if you need to cool it quickly and you don't have enough time to build something before it gives off too much of said heat? " I actually also just remembered that making it into drywall tiles can work too, just that the effect won't be as pronounced. Drywall had been changed to take much less time building than before, basically not as long as temp plates as it once did. No need for a cold biome. Vacuum is best to prevent spreading heat before it is deleted. It's clamped on the low end too, I believe at 15C, except for tempshifts and ice blocks made out of solids that melt below the minimum. The minimum is why viscogel tiles and ladders instantly liquify even in a vacuum. And obviously it's intentional. Go build a metal statue out of freshly solidified volcano gold and you'll understand Been this way for ages. cblack
Interesting, I guess I just never noticed because I closely control the temperature of my materials before I build with them. Sometimes they do grab stuff right out of a volcano but I'm usually issuing orders well in advance of when they build, so I'm often not looking while they actually get around to putting something in. In any case this makes me want to be even more careful so my dupes don't cheat on my behalf.
