There are problems with your version of the printing pod for people that are ok with the current version, hence why I say I would rather have that as an option than as a change. Disabling care packages altogether is not great either, since it means critters can go extinct (which I believe was the reason care packages were implemented to begin with). Don't worry, I certainly didn't take it as an attack. My point is that this is already possible if you're willing to continuously reload the game until you find the dupe you want. Giving us the ability to randomize from the selection screen eliminates the need to reload, which becomes quite time consuming later in the game. If you do not currently reload the game and just take whatever you are given, you can continue this playstyle and just completely ignore the reroll random option. It should have no impact on your option to play the game the way you like, while allowing players who prefer my style a better option to do what they already can do. Ah yes, sorry, was reacting to the “single dupe offer, but choice of specialty”, because that changes things quite a bit if you want some level of randomness. I have no problem with a reroll option for those that want to use that. See I don't think it changes much, other than it makes it less 'not-fun' to find the dupe you want, much like the change to the initial selection. I can randomize 1000 times to get the dupe I want, or I can choose a sub-type and randomize 10 times. Both get the same result, but one is a lot less boring. Darkin Coaled
If you allow for re-rolling of duplicants during play then any new player will see it as a the way to play the game. Unless somebody does a "challenge" game where you don't re-roll then every lighting up of the pod will from this point on mean "you get a duplicant if you want it, or some other goodies." I don't believe that the game is designed with this in mind. How many times do you not print anybody? How many times you settle for less-but-still-decent? In fact, the save/load cycle resetting the offering should be fixed. I'm pretty sure the pod is supposed to be random. And what about making that an option that is "off" by default, unless you do "no sweat"? And what about all the other options that can make the game very easy or just more customized to personal preferences? Do you want them all also removed, because somebody could "abuse" them? Nobody said anything about this being the default, suggested way to play. Darkin Coaled
In a no sweat game re-rolls similar to start would make more sense, true. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109007-new-care-packages/page/2/#findComment-1227831 Share on other sites
Dracian
For my part, I'm fine with the current system. Being able to instant reload would certainly trivialize the choice, and thus some difficulty in the game. However, to follow you, @Gurgel, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing it in the No Sweat setting. After all, it's supposed to be a relaxed gameplay, so why not ? As for the save-scumming option, it's long, tedious, boring and, past some point, resource consuming, just to get the one Dupe/resource you want. At the beginning of the game, it's certainly a big help when you really need an additional Dupe/Resource that fits your needs, but when your base is pretty much safe and self sustaining, the exploit loses its interest because, well, it's too long and it's certainly more fun to just reject all or choose a sub-par resource and wait for the next printing cycle. Not to mention that the sense of emergency is lessened when you base runs smoothly, compared to the beginning of the game. I won't deny I used the exploit quite intensively before the addition of Care Packages, but now, not much more. I only use it for the first Dupe and if I'm stuck too long without any new Dupe. And never once I have 10 Dupes. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/109007-new-care-packages/page/2/#findComment-1227832 Share on other sites

What I post is, of course, for my own benefit and for the of some others, because if Klei bombs the release due to making the game much narrower, that would be bad for me and quite a few other people. Of course, it is possible that the general audience for this game is quite happy with limited options and experimentation, and with mainly following recipes provided by others and with doing more something like a "rail shooter" than an open world simulation where anything that works is not only acceptable but perfectly fine. There is a strong faction in the human race that likes to do that, that wants limited options and, ideally, only one, well defined path to "success". "Play the game how it is meant to be played" folks. While I doubt the main audience for a simulation game like ONI is of that type, I may be wrong.
