If you were there at the beginning and stayed active along the way, for some of the milestones, you could have gotten away with getting the better part of the base games and the DLC characters for free. DST was also free for DS base-game owners at release, and ONI early beta players got any 1 Klei game free (I grabbed Shipwrecked just for the sweet bird cage skin TBH). ...I think they need to charge for stuff more often. Wormwood isn't time limited, there's no deadline where you won't be able to get him for "free" (unlike the Bottomless Fire Pit) & he's just the replacement for the DST-Hamlet skin, thus he doesn't fit to your previous 2 examples. Users who signed up for the Hamlet beta would end up getting Hamlet for free (aha!), thus obtaining Wormwood for no additional fee in Don't Starve Together. If you missed this opportunity you would either buy Hamlet, pay for Wormwood or weave Wormwood to unlock him.
