This miner set-up now obsolete?

Recommended Posts

Of course the get entombed...next to the miners is free space, and the debries can fall on the floor, covering up if its too much.

The simple setup is to place the miners overlapping at the edges on the ground, and place mesh tiles above them.

They can dig the whole area, and also above the mesh tiles. And the mesh tiles prevent trash falling on the miners. If it happens sometimes, because stuff falls diagonaly, the overlapping ensures, the other miner will dig it out.

Like this: (MT = mesh tile; M = miner)

MT                 MT                MT

M                   M                  M

Have you tried O2 cooling them perhaps? I'm sending -10c O2 at 100g/s for each miner. (it's probably less as the O2 is used by airlocks & jeptacks first)  This probably works for me, however I have yet to find a solution for the sweepers, as I'm using loose petroleum to cool them, but when the regolith drops, the petrol is moved around and some areas become dry, overheating.

I've recreated this John's setup for the miners just recently, and for me it went a couple hundreds of cycles without being entombed or overheat. If you check range of the miners, you will see that everything is reachable. Yes, it is important to place it on the edge of the map.

The setup in the video only works when you build your bunker doors at the top most edge of the map. By doing this, regolith can only pile up 2 tiles high, preventing the robo miners from being entombed.

That's the part I missed from the video. Thanks for clarifying
