Player Meats

Recommended Posts

I would like player meat drops to be brought back to the game because it adds to the gameplay, is a logical outcome, fits in with mob drops, the theme of the game and can be outright comical in both pvp and non pvp. It is no "darker" than having your soul drop be consumed by your friend. I very much doubt this could be "warbucks" level of outrage and with the coming RoT moon mutations people will have no choice but to man up.

- 1x Long Pig by default

- Wolfgang mighty form drops 2x Long Pig

- Webber drops 1x Monster Meat

- Wortox drops 1x Monster Meat

- Wormwood drops 1x Leafy Meat

- None for WX78 (gears already fill this spot)

- Fix missing animation for dried Long Pig on the rack

more info here : https://dontstarve.fandom.com/wiki/Removed_Features#Long_Pig

thanks.

Let's not.

I'd be very interested to read counter arguments that don't involve internet feelings or real life.

I see this entirely from a gameplay and videogame point of view. I could care less about implications.

There was a lot of discussion on this back when the game was barely coming out. Take a look at them if you wanna know why it didn't quite make the cut.

And hey, don't talk about people like that, yeah?

would you have a link in particular? It's hard to find the one thread with the best evidence at times.

what do you mean talk about people?

Oh yeah i think i remember those.

People were discussing it alot, lots of people whining because it wouldn't fit in the game or was too creepy for their taste, some others gave ideas as to why it should be added like having it take lots of sanity and health for hunger etc.

Was controversial as hell, probably because they felt uncomfortable about that.

EDIT : Just remembered it was called "Long Pig" Hell-met in case you want to check.

Thanks, I'll take a better look in a few moments.

I imagine this thread here is a nuclear bomb waiting to set off aswell? I suppose it can die off this instant.

Apologies about the manning up, after all we can just use mods to solve such concerns.

It was removed because it was messed up in many peoples minds and would be controversial. Here's a pretty cool mod that you can configure to have long pig in made by John Watson: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=960992208&searchtext=pvp

Here's one I never head of but I think it works probably: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=353933777&searchtext=long+pig

As much as I enjoy macabre themes in video games I still don't think there is any reason to re-implement it back into the game.

From a gameplay stand point having human meat would thematically be a terrible food choice and would be annoying/tedious to farm for any potential recipes that might involve it since you would have to die to attain it. Not to mention the possible myriad of issues for the ESRB rating for the presence of cannibalism and stray body parts.

The emotional problem with it is that it is an awful thing that has happened in real life causing permanent damage to real people. It can't be compared to Wortox's soul sucking because that has never ruined peoples lives because it's not a real thing that can happen. People already have enough problems dealing with dogs dying in movies. It's not hard to imagine people would find the thought of cannibalism grotesque.

There is no reason to add something that could cause problems for certain players and Klei for fairly little benefit.

Hmm, I suppose you have a point there but it still doesn't make it so our favorite survivors eating human flesh easy to handle for certain people.

I guess. Though I feel like this sort of problem comes from mixing up videogames and real life matters. This never ends well and is at the expense of gameplay elements.

I imagine this is warbucks all over again.

that still makes it so uncommon that its pointless then for what is essentially worse monster meat

it adds nothing of note to strategies and will only exist to be distasteful

If they all dropped monster meat, would it still be such a big deal?

how is that supposed to help?

that doesn't answer the question.

I believe it's the "cannibalism" aspect which freaks people out. Removing that label ought to solve the issue?

Okay, videogames and ethics.

One last point, shouldn't mobs eating eachother provoke these people as much? Even our friendly pigmen cannibalize eachother, need I remind you.
