Are dupes losing their clothes?

Recommended Posts

All of a sudden my atmo suits and snazzy suits are vanishing. I can't pinpoint when this is happening, but it has started after the last update. I first noticed it when one of my dupes was purging an oil well and started suffocating. I assume the suit vanished while they were down there. I've seen several dupes in very dangerous areas and not wearing a suit.

Soon after all 26 of my docks were empty! Today I see that all of my dupes are wearing their default clothes again. I have my exo suit forge on continuous and I have to keep making suits too. This was not previously an issue for me in any save.

Is this a feature or a bug? This is on a very complex 1,000 day world.

There was a bug with exosuits disappearing, not sure if it was fixed. It was caused by a mod removing neutronium form the bottom of the map. Are you using it by any chance? If so there was a workaround requiring to use debug and place a single neutronium tile in the bottom left corner of them map.

Other clothes had a different bug where they would change into carbon when a dupe was near too hot stuff (even in exosuits). Might be still there, or it might be another instance of the first one.

My only mods are the zoom and 3 interests. It's still happening.

None of my dupes come in direct contact with lava, but they do work in my natural gas realm a lot. Nothing has really changed other than the update. They won't wear a snazzy suit for more than a day or so. Doesn't show up in my inventory either.

Exosuits melt like dirt - same temperature and result. If you have weird blocks of sand with round mass, in places where they don't belong, it could be melted exosuits. If you don't have 300+C temperatures nearby, it's not melted exosuits.

You mean snazzy suits, right? Those change into carbon at around 300oC. Atmo suits are safe up to almost 800oC and even then they shouldn`t melt before the copper melting point, plus on top of that they take a while heat up to that temperature. I`m not sure what`s causing it but to be extra sure try enabling debug and check if the bottom left corner tile is neutronium or magma. If it`s magma it might be the cause of the issue.

None of my dupes can leave the base without passing a exosuit checkpoint, so they should all be wearing an exosuit when in the NG realm.

the bottom block probably was magma? It was sand and I painted a neutronium border around the sides and bottom. Even in the NG realm it's not very hot 200 degrees F is about as hot as the dupes can get to. I have a transit tube system down there that hasn't melted yet if that tells you anything.

It's worth mentioning this save is well over a year old. I've put a LOT of work into it.

No, I mean atmo suits. It may have changed when I wasn't looking, but if it didn't, atmos melt below 400C.

It isn't always immediately obvious because they have quite a bit of mass and are usually racked in cool places, but they melt well below the temperatures they protect dupes from.

Check materials of a produced atmo suit item (not the recipe, the result). Last time I checked, it was dirt.

So if the suits really melt into sand that`s where the sand might have ended. Let us know if placing neutronium there fixed the issue.

Might be the cause of the problem. some changes to worldgen could prevent this from ahppening in newer maps.

You jogged my memory and I think I've got a solution to this put in. We'll test it it out and it should make it into a patch sometime in the future!

Thank you! Let me know when it's live or I would be happy to test it for you.

I think in an update the world got expanded by a few blocks so the sand could have come from a number of places. The last time I played I had to build a new set of suits again so I'll see if the problem got fixed.

I thought they wore out over time?

If that's true it took well over 500 days for that to happen the first time and now they seem to be all gone within 10.
