New Game required for QOL3?

Recommended Posts

I am finally getting my base to the point, and have enough steel made, I could try breaching space.  And a new update is coming out....   Has anyone who tried the new branch tried it with an existing game?  Is it possible to continue or are there just too many changes?

I realize in May when the full release comes out a new base will be necessary to get the new biomes, but there is a lot of time between now and then, and I'd like to experiment with space.   I play with a small number of dupes and have limited playing time so takes me awhile to get a base up and going.

thanks

Don't. There's no need to risk your current game. They've recently added some hot fixes in the game that just introduces more bugs, and makes ranching pretty much pointless. If you in any way rely on ranching in your current game current state of QoL mkIII will most likely break it.

Additionally, the skill system replacing jobs only really works if you start a new game from scratch.

Existing bases with a minimum of resilience should have no problem being updated to QoL3 (barring big changes being made before the full release).

With the current build, existing dupes experience is transferred into QoL3, but not the interests. Interests reduce the morale expectation of learning new skills, however the new morale expectation curve for early game and specialized dupes is way lower. In any case, you'll have the luxury of reassigning as much skills as you want/need. The new disease system should not cause any problem either, and new content is mostly new buildings, including a new steam turbine. Existing turbines that are built should not be affected by the changes, but I haven't verified that.

My 3600 cycles bases stopped working when my dupe got stuck researching in the first tier for the newest medical buildings and never finished. keeps researching and never ends.

Sounds like a bug.

I love this game but I'm struggling between the past, the present and the future.

Lost interest in my old QoL II base due to upcoming changes related to dupes' interests and the new skill system just like mentioned by Mariilyn.

Started a new base for preview branch of QoL III but... errrr... not in love with the new skill system so far.

Then I decided to wait until April 16th to check how the system will be like in its final form and don't suffer dealing with its current version while there is a chance for it to be changed or tweaked.

But being honest, my anxiety for the new biomes will be a huge obstacle for true engagement in QoL III... whelp!!!1

That's not what I experienced. When I fired up the preview branch with my cycle 1500-ish base, all my Duplicants were at level 2. Which meant that no one could learn the Exosuit skill or be an astronaut. They retained the skill points they'd gained through experience, but not the XP for the many, many jobs they'd mastered.

Maybe it's changed, but my take was that it's almost certain to break a long-running colony because of skill issues. For that and instability reasons, I decided I'd hold off until QOL 3 was officially released, and I'd start a new colony when I did so rather than return to my old one.

The last version fix the level 2 skill point bugs but didn't fix the pacifist digging problem, and i have 12 of them so no dupe digging for me. Until this bug is fixed i will not test further for bugs. I may be mistaken but i thing this is only for the savegame updated from the QOL2. I will play the stable version when the digging problem is fixed. In the time i find other bugs whit azure bugs. I hope klei will fix it.image.thumb.png.5d46c5a61981512f2476be9b4f1fdbce.png

Not that. The azure bugs bug.. I can't have wild abyss bugs whit this bugs and i don't think many players reach this far in the bugs ranching so this bug wasn't known.

Post edit: maybe this bug is only whit the wild ones. I don't tested the tamed bugs

In the live branch? It would be more reliable if it was tested in sandbox with a whole bunch of bugs though.

if you want to test it is ok. I tested in the survival game and from 3 bugs at 80% chances to lay abyss bugs lay only azure bugs. I will see if is any change. And i have shine bugs - solar bugs - royal bugs- coral bugs - azure bugs... and here the path is broken....I am 99% that is a bug.
