Ghengis_John
Guys. I am an old fart. I didn't grow up with programming classes in school. To me all this automation stuff looks like indecipherable gibberish and the game makes very little effort explaining it to you "Becomes active when the set port (s) becomes active. Goes on standby when reset port (R) becomes active." What the heck? Reads like a legal document. But I understand that all the advanced techniques integrate it and I would like to actually understand these things I'm trying to cobble together with my dumb monkey brain. (Namely I'm trying to make it so that a water tank in a chlorine room cycles it's water back into the storage tank using a germ sensor until it's clean of germs. My old system of tearing the pipes out that will have polluted water in them still and having the dupes mop it up somehow deleted all the chlorine in the room eventually which, considering my map has no chlorine geyser is not ideal) I've tried looking up tutorials but they are all rambling 30-40 minute long videos where the people making them don't have the materials on hand, so they have to make them, and they make mistakes and go back over those mistakes and they just expect me to sit there while their dupes do everything in real time like they never heard of editing. Then they have this big spiderweb and don't actually explain why they're using the gates that they do. It's not very conducive to me learning what these things can do for me. And so, like my parents before me when they couldn't program their VCR I must now ask for help with something that is probably a lot simpler than I realize. Help me please. Explain to me how I can use these things and how they interact with each other-- as you would to a child. And if anybody can walk me through making the water disinfecting room that I want to build, that would be awesome. Thanks for your time reading this and in advance thanks again if you can help me out. I have spent all day today and a good chunk of yesterday trying to figure this out on my own. So far I have got the machine to lock up in several interesting ways but it has yet to actually do what I want it to. camelot
I found this one is short and directly to the point, unlike others with all the unrelated stuff. Unfortunately, it didn't cover Memory gate (video uploaded before that ONI update). SharraShimada
Its even easier. Disinfect comes with a fixed rate per time-unit, if no new germs are pumped in. Set a timed shut off at the input, and a timed output at the exit port of the reservoir. That way you stop the input, while disinfecting, wait until its done, and then pump it to a second reservoir. PhailRaptor
Neotuck assembled a build for the express purpose of decontaminating PW from the Washroom: It has both an industrial version for processing full pipe 10 kg/s, as well as a more compact method for specifically cleaning the water in a toilet loop. It was later revealed, however, that if you have both your Bathrooms and your Showers on the same pipeline, you can just let it fill into a Reservoir and make it sit there for 140 seconds, and all the germs will be cleaned out of the contained liquid. You just have to ensure that no new germs are added during this time. The discussion on that is on page 3, I believe. Ghengis_John
Hey all of you guys, thank you so much. Gonna tuck into these later and see how it goes. 2 hours ago, PhailRaptor said: Neotuck assembled a build for the express purpose of decontaminating PW from the Washroom: It has both an industrial version for processing full pipe 10 kg/s, as well as a more compact method for specifically cleaning the water in a toilet loop. And also I want to avoid having other gases like po2 in there. I basically never want anyone going in there so I don't wind up with a fruit salad of gases. Somehow literally all the chorine got out of the room I had dupes going back and forth into to operate, and it had some storage chests for disinfecting clay, algae and slime. Eventually the po2 came out of those and between that and o2 wafting in every time the doors opened seems to have pushed all the chlorine out of the room. But I was using powered airlocks instead of a water lock which seems to have been mistake number one. Interesting trick about deactivating them with doors underneath them though. Saturnus
You know what. I think I did a fairly good job at explaining a simple disinfection set up here Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/104044-i-need-some-help-with-automation/#findComment-1167341 Share on other sites

angrybovine
The 4x4 design from Neotuck is the best I've seen so far. I use a modified version to deal with more than the close loop, and it is great not having to handle germy dirt or germy polluted dirt because of it (if its germ-free before it hits the sieve, no germs in the end products!). Now that the welfare pod gives plastic, it easy to build without an early glossy farm (if you get the lucky RNG plastic). From Neotuck's post in (buffer gate is set to 135): Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/104044-i-need-some-help-with-automation/#findComment-1167767 Share on other sites
Ghengis_John
So I just wanted to provide an update, I had been lazy to post it once the thing was built, and it's not the nicest looking, most compact or most elegant thing ever, but I took what I learned from your guy's posts and built a functioning cleaner. It doesn't function exactly the way i'd envisioned it (it fills up a fairly small amount before it shuts off the intake) but that's fine it cleans it quickly and so it can actually handle a good volume. The germ sensor checks for germs and if it finds none it turns on the valve, otherwise it rides the liquid bridge back to the holding tank. Thanks guys, For real. My understanding is still rough but I actually managed to employ automation. It's a milestone for me, lol. kurzaen
I'm not very good with automation myself ,and I try to barely use it, so i'll explain it like I do in my head. If X and Y are ON, then Z will be on. just plug in variables. If the TEMP and THIS BUTTON are ON, then THE DOOR will be open. And its even simpler if your talking about basic things like room pressure. if there is OVER 2K of OXYGEN from the PRESSURE DETECTOR, OPEN this DOOR. Hope this helps!
