Rotintin
Backstory: I recently suffered a back injury which has kept me from working and forcing me to be lying on my back. Thanks to the UI scale I could keep my mind off my misfortunes with ONI and play in bed. Great game Klei, you've done it again. DST is an all top game for me, and ONI is successful in many of the same ways. I really love what you guys do! Here's a look at the map: Spoiler The crown jewel of my Dupes is our Pyramid. It emits icy 02 into the world at a ridiculous rate. It took a while to build it as all the plastic had to cool. In the bottom right you can see a Dupe on his night shift tending to the crops that line it. They hop up and down the hydroponic tiles and it looks hilarious. This was originally a slime biome. Spoiler Here's the Kibbutz above the pyramid. This also took a long time to build, around 200 cycles, as i wanted to get all the crops growing within the compound in open air. I was trying to give it a distinct look compared to the efficient mechanized main base. Spoiler Here's the temp overlay. The Kibbutz is in the top left. This open air layout was possible from using hot geyser water in the lavatories, outputting to the Peppers. Then cooled geyser water from across the map for the bristles, then freezing water from the bottom of the pyramid. I'm not sure if it's an exploit, but I was dripping 1kg packets of 02 at -190 onto a small pool and pumping it when it got to below zero. Spoiler I think the plumbling overlay looks great considering this zones aesthetic: Spoiler To the right of the Kibbutz is a massive P02 generator. It provides a great deal of water free 02 to all 47 dupes as well as our 14 pufts. Not an original design, saw it on here so thanks for that (I think Lifegrow). Slime from sweeping is stored in the bottom. Spoiler Our main dormitory sleeps 32 dupes and houses their exosuits. Spoiler Zooming out a bit to give you some context: Spoiler Below the barracks is a power plant / oxygen generation area that provides for the left side of the base. It runs off 4 hydrogen genes and 2 nat gas. One electrolizer mixes with liquid 02 and gets pumped into the left side of base. The other supplies the exosuits. Spoiler Pretty basic power plant. I have the petrol generator set to help refill the polluted water when its low with its runoff / c02. Also, when the natural gas gets below a certain point, I have it set so 30 dupes get on manual generators and fill a massive battery plant. I know a lot of people don't use these, but when using manual generators with 30 dupes, you can fill them up quickly and not make them return quickly which was the idea. Spoiler Also pictured is our chlorine food storage / bleach stone area. Spoiler Rest of main base with mush farm. I have a huge hydrogen radiator keeping it at 25C. There's a primitive self powered cooling o2 plant that I don't really like, but haven't bothered changing it. I'm also freezing P02 here and dripping as additional coolant / 02. The cots are locked to keep out narcoleptics for the night shift. Spoiler We have somewhat automated trash dump with hatches and an auto sweeper that sends coal to our generators. Basically, when all the bins are full/active, they open the doors, which then causes the bins to send an inactive signal, closing the doors. This repeats over and over and acts as an alarm for me to to take the trash out- so I empty a bins and have a Dupe hit the switch to open the doors. Dupes cant get in the coal area, but they can access one bin of fertilizer which gets sent to be melted into dirt. Spoiler Fertilizer melting (seems like a lot to just be able to grow mealwood haha) Spoiler This is another contraption to feed hatches. It was my first freezing gas design and is used to take chlorine from the geyser, freeze it, then send it down to a vacuum room as a solid for a hatch to eat. It took some tinkering to get it to not leak gas but it eventually worked out. Spoiler Here's my puft farm with sweeper / conveyor. Sadly two died because i mistakenly didn't build abyssalite above them. They were pretty easy to catch as they were all on the left side of the map besides 2. Spoiler Above them is my mass production of liquid 02. I have the sensor set to pump hydrogen to the regulators at -190. Plastic seems to work better than metal, what do you guys think? Spoiler Aqueduct to cooling mechanism for bristles. The tank to the left was a holding area for liquid 02 before i sent it to the other side of the map. It was almost full and as a result the world is densely filled with 02 at about 30. Spoiler Here's the oxygen overlay. I would open the base up, but the levels would pop their eardrums and I don't want to deal with the stress. There's so much that slimelung is completely eradicated on the left side of the map and is dwindling on the right. Spoiler Here's our southern base. One dupe turned all the oil on the map into petrol. He's now retired and is putting up mediocre artwork in random places. Another Dupe fills his old spot and converts the oil from our 20 slicksters consuming all the c02 of our power plant. We also have postmates in our colony who brings them pepper bread. Spoiler My steam turbine design worked great until the lava ran out. I set the atmo sensor to max and shuttle the exhaust back down to be heated with the automated doors. I also supplied it with enough water to keep the steam at around 60kg's below the turbine. I built it in a vacuum and primed it with steam before I built the turbine. I'm really looking forward to lava / hot steam being renewable. The pitcher pump was never used as the lava was cooled down too much. This set up lasted for ~300 cycles I think. Spoiler I've had a great time with this colony. Not one Dupe died although we almost lost one to slimelung early on. Rushing reeds for snazzy and exo suits are the way to go. Late game I really recommend you guys experiment with P02 freezing. It's well worth the power consumption. Lastly, I'd like to thank the community here. You guys are super helpful and are an intelligent bunch. Thanks for the various posts that have helped me learn some of the fundamentals. I hope you enjoyed the tour, and looking forward to seeing some feedback! Soulwind
That is simply amazing. And built without cheating/debug. Wow. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/88074-cycle-1800-megabase/#findComment-1008911 Share on other sites
Lacost
Is there literally anything you haven't done in ONI?! It's just mind boggling for me to see such a dedication... I hope I find the time to build such a base on my own. Well, without the back injury of course. I usually burn out after 100-200 cycles because most of my resources are renewable and the survival-motivation has gone away. Maybe I should try mega-basebuilding with my current colony. Your base really motivates me to do something more than survival and machine-design. Especially the left part of your base with the ice pyramid and this Kibbutz that shouldn't even be possible to exist! I also really liked the part with the retired Petroleum Generator worker that runs around making mediocre art in the base xD. Hilarious! TheGCat
I like to see other builds than mine. It's a little bit a chaos build, but I love it. Next time if u build another one, try to build the base without destroying the whole map, it will keep the lovely something. Thanks! I'm taking some of the liquid oxygen I'm generating and dripping it into a small pool below the pyramid, then pupping it out to the wheat.
