Little Oxygen generator

Recommended Posts

So this is what I came up with last night (when I was really sleepy)

20180123122258_1.thumb.jpg.4870358ff76f5570d00af1235888613d.jpg

Today, I perfected it,

It successfully removes hydrogen, provides a lot of oxygen, and can be turned off by the power switch.

And most importantly, it is aesthetically pleasing.

Still running 1:1 electrolyzer to hydrogen generators?

They will be inactive the majority of the time, no?

In this one hydrogen generators sometimes work at full load, and sometimes are fully offline.

That's not the point though, hydrogen generators are there to make the system more power efficient.

This is mainly built for looks and oxygen.

Not a really good way..
Temp will kill it soon..
You could use a valve in front of one gen set to 0 and limit the flow for the other, but that makes really no sense in this case ^^

make a bigger one, this one barely provides any oxygen and has no gas output

I made a bigger one, but Perlator Mini V2 is the best/efficient so far.
I don't build it bigger, i build it so many times, i need it. When i need oxygen directly, i install one in a small room and place an oxypump at the bottom center, works well, maaaaany cycles..
:)

I almost never have plastic :( so this wouldn't work for me.

Better ^^
Set the both atmoswitches to a high value "above" (around 1450,9)
When you use that O² for your exos, you need insulated pipes, or everything will heat up and dupes heads will boil in exo helmet ^^
I would build many of those, because then they will not run 100% and you get no heatproblem (that fast)..
Build one too, where under the doors is one airflowtile and cut the rest away (bottom part + pump).
You also could isolate the area, where they run around without exo (no need for O² everywhere). (Use door permissions)

After some recent tinkering with electrolyzer designs while trying to come up with something that's efficient as possible.  I've come up with this beauty.

EfficentElectrolyzer4.thumb.jpg.a5727ddebec255aff892752ba549bc83.jpg

EfficentElectrolyzer5.thumb.jpg.c35fc51804557317f90addc58e21a1a1.jpg

Which evolved from this machine.

EfficentElectrolyzer1.thumb.jpg.854d1b0878e7b80f20b28157b9ad316a.jpg

Some things to note.

1)  The electrolyzer prefers to create hydrogen in the left top tile and oxygen in the top right corner.  I had known this before, but this bottom machine confirmed it for me.  It works better in this configuration then the mirrored version.  This bottom machine is designed to squeeze every watt of power possible out of it.  The electrolyzer is set to work below 600 grams so it runs at full blast, for the most part, then shuts off.  The oxygen pump doesn't shut off.  The design is tuned for (both versions) to run the oxygen pump(s) at a full 500 G/s.  On the bottom machine, the pressure sensor is set to above 300 grams and the top version the oxygen pumps are set to above 250 grams.  They hydrogen pump is set to above 400 grams.  For the top machine, the electrolyzers are set for below 900 grams.

2)  The bottom machine, I mentioned, was tuned for power usage and it could power itself, (No surprise) but as you can see, I had a test pump pushing on average 300 G/s, which is about an extra 144 watts on average and it might have a little more.  I just know that is was slightly power positive this way and, when I let the electrolyzer function without the pressure sensor, it was slightly power negative.  The electrolzyer's functionality/efficiency is definitely affected by the air pressure around it.

3)  For both units, I was just feeding them 40C water and with the water radiator in the bottom unit, it was spitting out 50-55C air.  Not terrible really.  If you have even colder water then you'll get an even lower result.

4)  For the top machine, I'm quite surprised that a single Nullifier has enough cooling capacity for a double unit which amounts to 1000 G/s of oxygen and some where over 110 G/s of hydrogen.  I've let it run over many cycles and the output oxygen is still under 10C.  Perhaps it could handle more...

Much better! I'd be inclined to shrink it a little bit just to increase the pressure a bit, but I think this will be much better than the previous design. Even if the previous design was nice to look at with the diamond-y shape :)

I'll try to shrink it and make a more optimized version of it,

hydro generators can be placed outside of the box.

The diamond shape is useful for pushing the gas upwards I think

Even if you keep them inside, I understand you want it to look cool and symmetrical - I was thinking more about the space between the bottom pump and the bottom tiles, and the 1 tile high gap between the top of the generators and the tiles where the hydrogen pumps are.

That didn't work, so here's what I ended up with:

20180214063309_1.thumb.jpg.cefe11c2d2232632efbccbd0b972159c.jpg

I'll eventually put 2 pumps on top

Interestingly, batteries help with the whole oxygen production system (because of gas/liquid pump and electro idling)

I'm only using 1 hamster wheel to make it work!

Here's another one:

20180215133215_1.thumb.jpg.34441fe521681fef7c346ec2978103a5.jpg

1-Pump some water into the first room:

20180215133138_1.thumb.jpg.d9a9dfc57311e1cd06ea383bc7566f71.jpg

2-Send the gases through insulation pipes to the second room:

20180215133213_1.thumb.jpg.2a72f289a2cbbfff6b1f932429c03f17.jpg

3-Use the hydrogen + 2 wheezeworts to cool the 2nd room, and use 2 thermo regulators to cool oxygen in the same time:

20180215133215_1.thumb.jpg.34441fe521681fef7c346ec2978103a5.jpg

It's good enough I think, not aesthetically pleasing though.

You don't need the gas pump in the second room except to let any gas that is not hydrogen out of the system. Once achieved, disable or even deconstruct it. This is to avoid wrong element damage to the hydrogen generator.

Simply feed you hydrogen generator with the same pipe your filling your room with. It will take twice the time for your room to be filled to capacity, but once it is, you won't be waisting power for the gas pump.

Other than that it's a good system. What would make it aesthetically pleasing to you ?

A more optimized diamond shape system :D

This is by no means optimized, it can all be fit to one structure.

@Master Miner you see the problem with most of the builds are readability, a structure that is not readable is useless in my opinion, that takes many of the designs on this forum on that category.

It's just like programming, in older times people used to write messy codes with lots of complexity (and gotos), then it evolved, easily understandable structures came out of those messy codes, and now everyone can code much easier with object oriented languages.

I think we should start making easily readable structures here instead of overly complicated unreadable ones, so new players can learn out of it, and others can optimize and build something on it, this standardizing would help the game in general.

Little Oxygen Generator v2.0

20180217135728_1.thumb.jpg.ed85a1cff558663ba75ea75062e299f2.jpg

Its power room:

20180217135723_1.thumb.jpg.2c6d329743517b07cc7e74a30ca0ff4a.jpg

Gas overlay:

20180217135731_1.thumb.jpg.a1441aba295b64025fd70e802c8106f7.jpg

This one's made using debug mode and tested for 10 cycles, at some point there will be a huge hydrogen buildup and you'll need to put its hydrogen elsewhere.

The good part about this is that it cools the room really fast and you get cool oxygen for a long time, and oh lets not forget it's really simple.
