Waiting for a Walking Cane nerf. Otherwise this is completely useless.

beefalo no longer get speed boosts from walking canes. or any effects from the rider actually.

...do beefalo get slowed while you have a pig sack? because if they don't that would be cool

I really don't know who handles the balancing and actual new content design but beefalo riding is useless at the moment. And I have noticed some other poor design choices with the new Through the Ages content as well which makes me worry I'll simply say "meh" more than before.

I believe there could have been two ways to make beefalo riding appealing:

  1. Make it an endgame element where you need to put a lot of work to get to tame a beefalo you could ride for days afterwards without worrying, plus a few more benefits besides just a speed boost (some insulation during winter for example). And by a lot of work I mean feeding them a certain crockpot food (here's a good incentive for players to make those crockpot recipes no one ever makes), apply all those new tools on them until they change their state to rideable. Certain beefs would prefer a certain set of crockpot dishes.
  2. Make it easier for beefs to be tamed with the result being much less effective, making beefalo riding more accessible for newer players and attractive even early in the days.

These are just ideas I would expect a team to brainstorm a lot before actually implementing stuff. The way it is right now is it has the hard work of my first point and the sucky result from the second one. It's horrible and not rewarding whatsoever. I am never going to tame a beefalo, never going to craft those new tools and saddles that are considered "new game content" because they could have not been introduced in the game to start with as far as I care.

Its supposed to be end-game content when you have done literally everything else. A little bit of fun before you start anew. Like seriously, 60+ butterflies? TBH the team that does balancing is pretty good. Most of the stuff they add is really cool, for example ewecus and new varieties. Beefalo riding was already kind of a thing before(i think) because you could make a saddle and ride on it. They just pumped it up a few levels, upgrading the fun and ridiculous levels.

How is this completely useless...?

Insulation during winter could be fun. You can already feed them ratatoi(I know I didn't spell it right at all) which no one ever eats/makes that is better than twigs/grass/etc.

I kinda like the idea though. Either making it more early game accessible(less preferred option tbh), or have more endgame functionality.

Ive read the title as "glommer saddle?" And now im sad that's not a thing ;_;

Would be a fun use for glommer wings actually. Replacing the ridiculous amount of 68 butterfly wings, with glommer wings.

I don't think they do.

Please tell me what feature in DS/DST that needs lot of work to make/do is epic and actually rewarding? This game is all about things like this. Go make Houndius for example. You need to kill 2 bosses and get tons of rare thelucite and when you build it it SUCKS SO BAD but! everyone does it and everyone like it! I can go on and on with all features that needs tons of work but "suck".

Beefalo riding is awesome and great feature of TTA which is DLC for LATE GAME. Only problem is that going into caves deleting domestication level but i hope Klei will deal with that somehow. I wanna see koalefants to be tamed and something for caves/ruins too!

Status symbol and creative farms is the houndius' usage. In DST, since you can have just 1 houndius, its entirely a status symbol.

Except it's not. A docile beefalo with the glossamer saddle on tears ass across the map with no equipment requirements (meaning you can use your lantern and wear your tam or whatever you want to do), and an ornery beefalo with the war saddle does 2 damage less than a dark sword with none of its drawbacks, and is effectively a self-regenerating, 100% damage absorption, 1000-HP mendable suit of armor. Beefalo taming has issues but they're not at all useless.
