Handy Chart: Plants per Duplicant

So I made another handy chart, this time regarding plants. Below you can check how many plants per duplicant do you need in order to feed it a specific meal, between harvests. 

For example If you want your duplicant to eat only Gristle Berry you need to cultivate 3 Bristle Blossom plants. If you want to feed 10 dupes with the same meal, cultivate 30 plants.

You can observe that Gristle Berry and Stuffed Berry require the same amount of Bristle Blossom plants per dupe, as well as Frost Bun and Pepper Bread require the same amount of Sleet Wheat plants per dupe. Which make it easy to advance to the superior meal once you have your Pincha Pepperplant farm set up (since you don't have to change amount of Sleet What or Bristle Blossoms farms).

Explanation of Calculation:

  1. Bristle Blossom takes 6 cycles to produce 1600kcal.
  2. That can be used at Electric Grill to produce 2000kcal meal. Wchich translates to plant "producing" 2000kcal per 6 cycles.
  3. Your regular duplicant needs 1000kcal per cycle, but as in above example one plant "gives" only (2000kcal / 6 cycles) 333.33 kcal per cycle.
  4. In conclusion you need (1000kcal / 333.33 kcal )  3 plants to produce 1000kcal per cycle.

The table tells you how many plants you need to keep duplicant fed between harvests. If you have 1 dupe and 3 Bristle Blossom plants, after their full, 6 days, growth cycle you will have 3 pieces of raw Bristle Berry and each can be turned into Gristle Berry at Electric Grill giving you 6000 kcal total... wchich is exactly how many calories your dupe need to be fed for the next 6 days, until the next harvest is ready.


 

 

You should probably include the note that these numbers represent the absolute minimum number of plants, and presumes that the plants are harvested the very instant they are ready to harvest which would under normal circumstances not be possible. Especially since the action of harvesting itself takes time so the actual number of plants needed is always higher than the theoretical minimum.

You could also include the maximum number of domesticated plants needed as all plants drop their harvest and starts regrowing exactly 4 cycles after they are ready to harvest regardless of the actual growth cycle of the plants. That would be particularly interesting to anyone seeking to make an automated farm without dupes wasting time on tending plants and harvesting.

Isnt it that they will drop they harvest after blooming only if you provide them with all the requirements, wether its dirt water or light, during those 4 days? Wchich means that plants uses more resources than needed

Yes. However, for long growth cycle plants, and especially sleet wheat that is a reasonable trade off to make considering the amount of dupe time saved. Remember, it's 4 exactly cycles regardless of the plant growth cycle.

For sleet wheat in particular this is a good trade off since it also makes it much easier to temperature control with the least amount of resources used if dupes have no access to the farm itself.

My plan is to feed 27 dupes with Pepper Bread

Your chart says I'll need 67.5 sleet wheat plants to support this

My greenhouse design has 60 with 4 dupes applying farmer's touch

I had to automate irrigation shutoffs from my refrigerators to stop the plants from growing whenever my cook has too many ingredients to handle (as seen with the pincha peppers) lol

No just accurate as I found that 60 was overkill while 30 wasn't enough

Petroleum, mainly to control heat for the pincha pepper plants.  Also to prevent the sweepers from overheating

Might have been overkill but I had a lot of extra petroleum to work with.
